My granddaughter has a Colbalt that is under recall. She took it to the dealership today and they told her that they couldn't give her a loaner car because she is not 21 and that it will take at least 4 weeks to get the part in. She is 20yo and the loan on the car is in her name.
I guess I was wondering if it should really take that long to get the part?
Thanks!

Well, considering they just announced a couple of hours ago that GM is now recalling another several million cars, it could take a while.

My son works for a GM dealership and waiting for parts after a large recall is SOP, it's frustrating for all, concerned. They wouldn't even have enough loaner cars for all the customers waiting on the recall. It will be up to find her own replacement vehicle while she is waiting.

Not a Cobalt owner, but we do own 2 cars under the recalls.
I have NEVER gotten a loaner car. I believe they are a fable. If they have any, it's one. Mine also has an alleged shuttle service. Also never actually seen in person. I thoroughly detest the local Chevy dealer service department.
Oh and 4 weeks is pretty good for the part. I had to bring my car in for something else and thought I could get it done then. You'd think with millions of cars on the recall, they would stock the parts. They don't. They order them one at a time, when a customer requests it. I was told 6 weeks. It's quite funny because I get a recall notice about this about once a week, yet the dealership didn't even bother to explain that you had to have them order the part when I called the first time. Was just told "we don't have them yet."

Thanks for the replies. She just told me that it will be at least 8 weeks for the parts to come in. I just don't understand it.

And you have to be 21 to rent a car, so it makes sense that the same goes for loaners. I'm another who's convinced that dealerships don't actually have loaners-in the multiple recalls I've dealt with, I've never once been given a loaner.

Thanks for the replies. She just told me that it will be at least 8 weeks for the parts to come in. I just don't understand it. They have had to recall 25.68 million cars in 2014. Most of them need a new ignition switch. That means they have to manufacture 25 MILLION ignition switches. That she needs to wait 8 weeks really stinks, but it is understandable that they need a lot of time to make that many parts. They are recalling YEARS' worth of cars.

I have owned 2 Cobalts - one I wrecked in the Jan icestorm before I could get it in for recall items and just bought another. It is under 2 recalls and we are on a list to have the repairs done. I think it is like 6 weeks. In the mean time we are driving it.
