Yes. Chicago news has been telling us for a few days about potential for snow Monday followed by a visit by polar vortex Tues, Wed, Thurs. -20 possible Wed night. Daytime high -15. I think it moves your way after us.

Guess who's driving back to the great polar north on Wednesday? I should just stay south . . .

I am a teacher and lots of people have been talking about snow day use. I am not a fan as I’d rather be in school now than June as they tack on days. I am hoping the worst snow tracks north and we have school Monday. I think Wednesday and Thursday may be called for those temps and wind chills. Hoping it does not happen.

It’s horribly cold here. My son works 12 hour midnight shifts. Welding. Outside. Wayyy up in the air. It was -17 last night. My heart is just sick that he, and his co workers, are out in that.

It's -22 this morning and will warm up to 0 today in northern Minnesota. It was colder yesterday. The whole state is going to be dealing with the coldest temps we've had in several years midweek. The windchills will be extremely low. Would not be surprised if schools were closed statewide. I look forward to the day when I can be a snowbird.

I just saw on the weather that some states were going to have wind chills of up to -60 on Wednesday! That is insane! Cold front swooping down through Fargo all the way down to Des Moines and off to the east. I so hope everyone in those areas will be safe.

That is just winter here in North Dakota. We've been spoiled so far. It hasn't been cold like that this winter, till the last few weeks. Stay warm everyone!

Another northern MN gal. -31F below yesterday. -20F something this AM. (I slept in) No school closings. Some delays. Riled all the people up on the local chat FB page. They are saying the Governor of MN might close some schools next wk. We get to go move our dd's couch today! lucky us. haha. My dh is at their busy time of yr with work. Winter, outside, so they are running his machine 24/7 and not shutting it off due to the cold. They are doing 12 hr shifts on it.

I'm betting we do have a cold day Wednesday. It's too awful outside for kids to walk to school or wait for buses. We'll see!

she got an alert on her phone. we are in Ohio. she said some days it might be 20 below and 40 below in some cities. maybe you should all check your weather. we may have snow too. Check you forecast. I googled the 10 day for Ohio, and it gave me Columbus as the location (and that could be far from you, but the lowest temp was -9 .. which is colder than heck, but it is NOT -40. That would be the wind chill, and it would depend on what calculation they use and the actual wind and humidity levels then... That’s our forecast for Iowa too. Sadly I get used to it every year when we get this weather. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr Iowa here too.. and the low predicted mid week is -15. That's cold. But it is NORMAL. It does this EVERY YEAR... EVERY YEAR... Sometimes it feels worse because of the wind - but people are freaking out that it is going to be -50º .. and it is NOT going to be that cold. This bugs me to no end.. can you tell.. lol First off we do need to know what the actual temps are going to be. We have livestock and we need to know so we can adjust barns, etc. Move livestock to sheltered area, setc. We need the real temp and wind directions. Instead they just start a panic with saying it's going to be -50º ... and the world must be coming to and end. It is totally not unusual for it to get down to -20º or -25º every damn winter. This happens. They start sending these extreme notices, and then it turns out to not be nearly that bad and people start to blow them off. They need to get more realistic in their weather reports. Plus it needs to get cold here for a while. The idiots out ice fishing keep falling through. LOL

We live in Northeast TN, next to the VA border. It is supposed to be near zero here later this week, with wind chills near -5 or colder. That is FRIGID for our area. We have been in the mid 40's to high 50's.

Our last day is June 3 and most camps start the following Monday so that week is already a childcare issue for many. I don't think we'll close for the snow, but probably the extreme cold because the buses will have trouble starting. Depends on what CPS does too. We typically follow them.

-20 without windchill (-40 with) on Wed-Thurs. DD is already praying for "snow" days. Me too... I love having her home!
I am so worried about all the poor creatures that live outside.

Until we used a snow dayin November, we were getting out the Friday before Memorial Day. We are already pushed to Tuesday after. More days just push us further forward. school starts again August 10, so already losing Memoral Day weekend is rough. The calendar has both end dates, but everyone hopes for the early one. Parents (not wisely) plan vacations based on the early date as it’s usually cheaper. Incompletes are a pain!

They sometimes don’t close because of the need for safe places for kids while parents work. I think suburban superintendents call each other and make a joint decision. No one wants to be the odd one out.

No one wants to be the odd one out. They do call each other because so many teachers live/work in other suburbs, so it serves a few purposes in terms of child care, transportation, and so on. I know our super does an AM call or a PM call with other sups in the county. Now I'm wondering what will happen tomorrow. Supposed to get snow overnight, mostly between 1-5AM. If it's 3-5 like I'm seeing in some places, we'll have school, but I'm also seeing 8 inch predictions. Yikes.
