Is that a yeti ventriloquist puppet? Hmmmm that might be interesting to see, as a performance.

Many of those props reflect the interest of the student at that time in their lives and a few need a better photographer.

I wonder how these end up on a website like this. Do people submit the photos themselves? If not, I think it's pretty cruel. Yeah, some of them are freakishly funny but some are just awkward looking teens perhaps not happy with who they are.

Who knows how they end up on the internet. Many of them look kind of like they could be from the 1980s-90s.

I had friends in high school who had some of those hairstyles. They are perfectly average these days.

I used to read awkward family photos a lot, and very often the pics were submitted by the people in the pictures. the same might be true for these as well.

Since many of these are older, I would hope they were submitted by the person in the photograph or their children with their permission.
I mean, we've all had an awkward photo taken and some of them we laugh at and post on tbt, my hope is that someone is not being cruel even 20 years later

I think almost all of these are submitted by the individual or possibly a family member, at least that is the way Awkward Family Photos operates. Even those lucky enough not to go through an awkward teen stage can be victims of poorly placed props, awkward collages and/or the fashion & make-up decisions of the day. There is a kid who was fighting his school to allow his "lazer cat" photo in the yearbook. The story is on AFP today.

Who thought it would be a good idea for a teenage boy to prop himself up on a pedestal with a lace brolly and fan??? And yes, the cheerleading one is wonderful, just imagine that photo framed and in your house!!

To be fair, a couple of them aren't really all that awkward, just poor examples of the trends that were happening at the time. Dated really. But some of them? Yow! They took that whole trend of having a senior picture done with your hobby/interest/sport a little too far. I'm so glad I never did that awful two pictures in one.

I can't wait until the trends of the past 5 years start showing up on sites like that. All of the magazine style sultry model looks has got to have some good fodder for poking fun.

I have to wonder what the response from the pea's would be if it was one of their children on that site. I'm assuming they would not find it nearly as funny.

Or if it was one of their photos since we have so many moms with cameras who are opting to do their child's senior pictures instead of a professional. Then again, even among paid pros there have been some trends I see as weird for senior portraits and will be "so 20-tens" in a few years.

There's a whole movement where people send in photos of their awkward old photos.
If you laugh at yourself, you take the power away from others to pick on you.
