18 officers were at the scene for the warrant. EIGHTEEN. Dozen were uniformed officers there in a support role.
BTW, despite us being a huge city, this is the most number of police shot at once in a long time, if ever, for HPD.

The search warrant that was being executed was the result of tips from the neighbors on suspicious activity that was handed over to narcotics to investigate.
Suspect names have not been released, nor have the names of the wounded officers (and the officers' names won't be since they all appear to be in the narcotics unit and undercover). The five injured: 50-year-old sergeant 50-year-old sergeant 54-year-old senior officer (who has been shot in the line of duty at least once before) <- evidently this guy was the case agent on this investigation 40-year-old officer 33-year-old officer
Joe Gamaldi, president of the Houston Police Officers' Union, had this to say at the news conference:
"We are sick and tired of having targets on our back. We are sick and tired of having dirtbags trying to take our lives when all we're trying to do is protect this community and protect our families. Enough is enough."

I've been out most of the evening and had not been following this. How horrible. All these officers were doing were trying to protect their community.

Yeah, the location is near a major freeway interchange and it's a nightmare to get to the Medical Center at rush hour. Surface streets to TMC from there aren't any better (driven that route numerous times). They tend to use air transport in this scenario anyway.
ABC local just said SWAT there because there's evidently a 3rd suspect inside or in the area.
Watching from Ks. Please keep us updated. This has to stop. It’s been 12 yrs since our oldest was shot on duty. We are grateful to God that he recovered and was back on duty after 9 months of recovery. Praying for HPD! Oh my, I can't image getting that phone call. My daughter is an officer and on the bomb squad (they go out to most SWAT calls). Praise God your son is okay. Please thank him for his service from one blue family to another!

I hope some moron doesn’t release the names!! It’s no one’s business, just tell us their condition and that they’ll be ok!! I watched the news conference where Joe Gamaldi spoke. Let’s just say that HPD officers are fortunate to have someone to speak up and say what has needed to be said about each police shooting ever!!!!! I could hug that guy!!!!

I get ready and head out..... my DH’s phone rings and it’s R. He tells his dad that he hurt his leg but is ok and to go ahead and go out of town as planned........(we didn’t know WHO had been shot yet)...... he had called from the medic unit- he was shot 7 times, but trying to play it down so we wouldn’t worry. We laugh now and tease about reverting back to teen yrs and downplaying/lying about something. May you never have to experience such a situation with your daughter.

They have released the names and photos of the perps. owner of the house and what I assume was his gf. When I looked him up last night on county criminal cases, I don't recall seeing anything. Doesn't mean he didn't have a record, just nothing through harris county that shows up.

Oh my dear gosh I can't even imagine!!! Shot 7 times! *shudder* We've also gotten that phone call, although it wasn't from the injured officer, because he was critical (he survived thankfully but still carries the bullet). My SIL fainted when the brass came to her door in the middle of the night to notify her. It's not an experience you ever forget. Please thank your son for his service from another KS LE family!!

Bumping this for an update on the officers. Three remain hospitalized. This is pasted from our local ABC affiliate's article, and the information came from HPD Chief Acevedo: A 50-year-old sergeant, who was shot in the face, was released from Memorial Hermann Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. He is a 25-year veteran of the force. A second 50-year-old sergeant seriously injured his knee and required surgery. He is a 27-year veteran. A 54-year-old officer, who made entry into the home during the shootout after other officers were down, is a 32-year veteran of the force. He was shot in the neck and remains in serious but stable condition. Acevedo said that the 54-year-old passed officers a note saying, "I had to get in there because my officers were down." This was the third time the officer had been shot in the line of duty. He was shot before in 1992 and 1997.
A 33-year-old officer was shot in the shoulder. He is a 10-year veteran of the force and was released from the hospital on Tuesday.
Acevedo said he is most concerned for the fifth officer, who is facing a tough recovery. That officer is 40 years old with nine years experience at HPD. The officer was shot in the neck and remains in serious but stable condition.

Thanks for the update, I’m glad they are doing well, all things considered.
While I appreciate that they are updating us, if these men are undercover providing recent scar locations seems like a bad idea.

Reports keep saying the neighbors are shocked, they seemed so nice and quiet, they've lived here a long time (they = the couple), this can't be right. Yet, SOMEONE (several someones actually) in the neighborhood gave the police the tip that resulted in undercover cops making a black tar heroin purchase from the couple, which gave them the cause for the warrant they were attempting to execute.
Also, there's this from an article that talks about the two who were in the house (that I refuse to link to because they don't need the publicity): Police recovered two shotguns and three rifles from the residence and seized marijuana and a white powder they believe to be either cocaine or the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl.
An added 'oh crap' - the male occupant grew up in my neighborhood.

Narcotics warrant being served when the ones in the building started shooting. 2 suspects dead, 5 officers shot. Live footage on my TV right now and SWAT is out there (maybe in case there's more inside, maybe just a precaution). same as the Philly police shootings - when serving a warrant- In this case, a warrant based on falsified statements by the officer being charged with felony murder.
