For as long as I can remember I simply cannot sleep in a room with the closet door open. Not even if it just one inch. That door has to be closed tightly. Yes I know that is dumb but I will not sleep if that door is not shut.
Do you have an irrational fear or have you overcome one? Perhaps it used to bother you but now you are ok with it???

Yes, being next to a semi on the highway and not being able to pass them. When I have the chance, I will go 80-85 to get past them.
Also, big trucks falling off of the bridges when going under them.
Neither of these things are bad enough to keep me from driving or going out of my way to avoid them, but I do think about those things every time the situation presents itself.

I believe serial rapist and killers live behind shower curtains. In my own home the shower curtain (decorative and liner) are pulled back unless I am actually showering but when I pee at someone else's home I close the door then violently yank back the shower curtain. I sit down and do my business only after ensuring the shower is killer free.

Bridges with a sharp bend. Always fear my steering will go out and I won't be able to turn and i shoot straight off!

Elevators and flying. I don't like big trucks either.
Last weekend we went to Laurel Caverns. It was a one hour tour of the cavern. I almost had a panic attack (just kidding, but was shaking!). I worried that we would have to go in an elevator in the cave. I didn't like the narrow parts we had to go through and it was dark. They even did a light show, but turned off all the lights first. I didn't like it at all!
I worry about something happening to the house, like fires or flooding. I check through the house so many times to make sure nothing was left on or curling irons are unplugged and the toilet stopped running. I will get out of bed to double check the oven, even if we didn't use it. I don't worry about anyone breaking in, so I won't get up to make sure the door is locked. Crazy!

I don't like being stuck in traffic on a bridge or overpass. I don't panic about it, but it makes me uneasy. It stems from all of the coverage of the San Francisco earthquake in '89. All those people stuck in rush hour traffic and the overpasses collapsed, crushing the cars in between. I also think about the bridge that was hit by a big boat and collapsed and people just drove right off into the water. There's a huge freeway bridge near me that I drive on almost daily when I'm home. I'm fine unless there is traffic and I'm stuck. That makes me nervous.

I also have one of elevators, but it's weird...I don't like being alone in them, but I also don't want so many people in it that I can't breath, see or move. If it gets stuck, I would only want 2-3 other people with me so I'm not completely alone.

Creepiest part of the whole damned movie and it ruined me for closet doors forever!!! Our closets all have the doors removed and curtains hung in their place!! Irrational? Hell yeah, but I don't care!!

Especially the brave ones who come close enough for me to - who am I kidding just seeing them gives me the heebies. My most "institutional" one is lotion on my hands. Can't do it. Have to be scratching my skin off and then I'll wash it off after maybe 2 minutes.

I think being trapped between a barrier and a semi is a legitimate fear. Mine is using the car wash at night. I figure that if a car came and parked behind and one in front I would have no where to go anf I would be killed.

Every time I go on vacation, I am convinced that something happened to my house while I was gone. I always hold my breath driving down my street until I see that my house is still standing there, that it hasn't burnt down or something else horrible.

Yeah - I have developed a fear of going down the ramp from our back steps at home.
In July, I hadn't realised there was a frost and I slipped on the icy wooden ramp - broke my wrist. And since then I just can't make myself walk down the ramp, even in the middle of a hot day. I walk out the door, determined to walk down the ramp, but I stand at the top and think that I just can't; so I have to go the long way around to my car. I can feel the sensation of my feet sliding out from under me.
I know it's irrational - I have only ever slipped once and it was because of the ice. I can walk up the ramp and I know my feet don't slip. But I can't walk down it incase they do slip.

Clowns! I know I'm not the only one. I have to look away if I see one. Krusty the clown, Bozo, regular clowns, they all freak me out. I used to work at a job where I helped a resident put on clown makeup for his Halloween costume.

I hate going on the down escalator unless it is narrow where I can hold onto both sides securely. Going up on the escalator is ok but I sure don't like going down them.
I have a fear of dentristry - don't like the procedures and I sure hate the cost (even with insurance).

I have a son that is like this, I told him we live in Florida and that he keeps driving straight, he will eventually end up in front of an ocean or on the Georgia line. At that point, he can reorient himself and get where he needs to go. Oddly enough, even though I was sort of teasing him, it helped him not feel scared he was going to get lost any more.

I was shoved onto the shoulder once in Kentucky by a semi who decided to change into my lane as I was passing him. I'd had my license for a couple of months. I'm well aware of blind spots with semis and I now won't sit next to one if a driver ahead of me hasn't passed completely. And I'll do the 80/85 to get past if I need to also. I don't panic, I'm just not going to tempt fate lol!

I will not, under any circumstances, drive on the Skyway. I will go FAR out of my way to take one of the other bridges before I drive on that thing. One time I accidentally took that exit and there was NO PLACE TO TURN AROUND. It was an absolute nightmare. I had to pull over on the other side just to get the shakes under control.

I can't either. I can't sleep with the bedroom door open either. And now the bathroom can no longer stay open (I have a bathroom in my room.)
I hate being so irrational.

I don't like taking the trash out at night. I worry when I open the lid a raccoon will jump out at me.

If I am filling my car with gas, I worry that my door may cause some friction and make the tank explode. I always try to make sure I close it really slowly even after I am done filling the tank.

The big escalators that are in stores and malls. When I was a kid my dad told me a story about a kid whose shoe lace came undone on the escalator and it got sucked in. The kid wound up skinned alive. I'm reasonably sure as an adult that my dad made that up. But I still cannot stomach the escalators. Whenever I have to get on one I am stiff and always sure that even if I don't get sucked in and skinned alive I will trip on the last step and wind up flying over the edge to my death.

I used to not be able to sleep with my back to the door, for years and years and years. Now I can sleep almost anywhere -- I think I'm just much more tired.
