Last summer we changed the countertops in our kitchen from laminate to quartz. I love them but the issue is that the kitchen cabinets are cherry wood, the backsplash and floor are beige and the new countertops are white with tons of grey. Cool meets warm! At first I thought it looked completely out of place, but it's grown on me and I don't think its as bad as I first did. We will eventually replace the backsplash and the floor tiles, but until we do I need to paint. I'm have very little wall space that will show the colour, but I'm looking for something that will bring the cool/warm tones together, i.e. "greige". I've picked up a ton of swatches from the paint store, and I think I'm more confused now than I was before... What is a good "greige" shade of paint? Not the best image, but you get the warm/cool I'm talking about.

Can you post a picture of your kitchen as it is now?

Honestly, griege is a hard one to choose and the lighting and other surfaces will really affect how it looks in your space. Your best bet is to bring home lots of paint chips and then paint samples of your favorites. Some people put them on the wall, I prefer to put them on 2x2 pieces of drywall so I can move them from wall to wall. Make sure and spend time looking at them in different lighting as well.

I'm painting greige right now- Benjamin Moore. You will have to get samples and test it out- the colors seem to vary so much from wall to wall. I decided on Edgecomb gray for the living room. I'm also using Revere Pewter for the bedroom and Balboa Mist for the bathroom.

Any chance you have samples/leftover pieces of the granite and tiles you would like to tie together? Your best option really is to take them to a good paint store and see what looks best.

I love the color but it looked so very different in each room. Sometimes very brown- and dark. Other rooms just neutral and soothing. Hence the bedroom. Here's a link I used that might be helpful, too.

Honestly, I don’t think there’s a paint color that will bring them together. I would just wait it out until you replace the floors/backsplash, and choose a color then.

I had cherry cabinets and gray countertop in our last house. I used a Sherwin Williams color called China Doll. It has a pink undertone that looks great with both the cherry cabinets and the gray countertop. Looking at the kitchen the wall just looked neutral, not pink - but those undertones just made the room. I seriously loved it.

Yeah, I was thinking that too... We're having a small renovation done to our bathroom shortly. Maybe I can convince DH to do it then... Even just changing the backsplash would help, although I'm not optimistic that he'll agree to it...

Now that I see the picture I’d go with something like a pale blue or green.

I ran into that combination more times than I can count. Look for some gray-er taupes. That's usually where I ended up.

Really small area but I’m looking to repaint most of my house and am going with neutrals rather than bright “out there” colours. My sister had a red living room in her last house and I couldn’t be in there! It hurt!

Oh, I meant that searching for "Taupe" may get you more results than "greige," which is the trendier name, but not used by all manufacturers.

No, the backsplash is on the other side of the kitchen too. Not a huge area, and I honestly considered painting it when the countertops were put in. I still may, but I’m going to get a quote for replacing it because I don’t think it’s going to cost a lot. The floor is another story and I won’t be able to convince DH to do it AND the bathroom so the floors will have to wait at least a year.

I would remove the 4" piece of quartz when you replace the backsplash.

Could you not have a backsplash ? Since it’s such a small area. I have a small kitchen, and I just have my paint color between the counter and the upper cabinets. Such a suggestion. 😊

Hi -- I can't help with the color -- but sent you a PM about the quartz!

Just painted my foyer a HGTV Sherwin Williams color from Lowe’s. It is Gracious Greige. I absolutely love the color!!!
I also agree with whoever said a little neutral color would be pretty. I just painted Sea Salt (another SW color) and I love how depending on the light it takes different tones. Blue/Green/Grey. It is gorgoues and may give a hint if color to that kitchen area!

Look at Agreeable Gray. It's that in between I think you are looking for. I would probably at this point, just going for a basic white until I did the rest of the renovations and then choose a coordinating paint color.

I would remove the 4" piece of quartz when you replace the backsplash. Totally agree with your suggestion - I didn't want it installed in the first place. Unfortunately I have that trim on the other side of the kitchen because there is a lot of wood that tends to get damaged with water. I'm going to see about having it removed when I have the backsplash re-done! Could you not have a backsplash ? Since it’s such a small area. I have a small kitchen, and I just have my paint color between the counter and the upper cabinets. Such a suggestion. 😊 Funny you mention this because I was thinking exactly the same thing last night... The backsplash is larger on the other side of my kitchen and saves the wall from cooking splatters. I would probably have to have the drywall replaced so the cost could end up being the same whether I have it removed or replaced... Have to look into this! I'm definitely painting it now because I can't stand the colour on the wall now, and because I'm talking a couple of days off to paint the hall anyway. The wall space in my kitchen is so small that re-painting when I get everything done the way I want it isn't at all a big deal.

So I have an update... We're replacing the backspash and the floor tile! I knew it was going to happen but I didn't think it would be this soon. And we ARE definitely having that 4" piece of trim removed. We've picked out the backsplash tile and we're going to look for the floor tile today. The only drawback is that it's not happening until next month...

My contractor just informed me that he will be finished replacing the backsplash and floor in my kitchen by tomorrow morning! YAY!!! Looks like I will be choosing paint and possibly painting on this long weekend... I don't have a lot of wall space, and I don't think I want anything too dark. Here is an updated picture. What do you think?
