Acadia, Enclave, Traverse or Explorer. We are looking for an SUV and have narrowed it down to one of these types, I think lol. We haven't bought a vehicle in YEARS so we spent the weekend driving different kinds. I like the size of the ones I listed but haven't seen a Pilot or the Subaru that would be in this size. We have to have AWD or 4WD because of where we live. So tell me about yours! The good, bad and ugly please. What do you like, dislike, love etc. I know there will be a wide range of answers and yes, I'm going to Google as well but I would like to hear your opinions.
Thanks!

If you need AWD...hands down I would get the Subaru Forester. I know that wasn't on your short list but we have owned 7 of them and have never been disappointed. I actually just bought our 7th one last week.....a Crosstrek and am so happy with it. Good luck and have fun!

Have you looked at the Kia sorento? We did drive one this weekend. I liked it, but it seemed a little smaller than what I was looking for. The third row is something that I would need a few times a year. The Sorento didn't have one.

StephDRebel I just googled pictures and it does have a third row. We are looking at used so maybe it was just that one? ETA: Maybe they were folded down and I didn't realize it had a third row. It's completely possible, we drove over 200 miles Saturday looking and driving vehicles.

Most likely.
I have the 3rd row and its roomier than a lot of larger SUVs on the market.
I have a 16 sorrento sxl and I am head over heels for my car.

Have you looked into the Honda Pilot? We bought one of the first ones off the line (our college kid drives it now) and we are on our second one. It seats 8, but I never feel like I'm driving a big car.

luckyjune I haven't. We haven't run across a used one yet but I wanted to drive one. I'm hearing that you don't run across used ones often because everyone keeps them until the wheels fall off. I'll keep my eyes open.

It's old data, but I'm one to hold a grudge. We had an Explorer 15-20 years ago, and it was nothing but problems. We bought new and had issue after issue. I think we traded it in 5 yearsish after buying it when it was on it's second or third issue with the breaks. Would never buy one again.
Have you checked out the Acura MDX? My friend is approaching 200,000 miles with hers and loves it with zero issues.

Do your research if you buy a used Traverse. I know there were several problems with some years of them. Two of my siblings each had one and traded them in faster than any other car.

And I’ll add another vote. Toyota Highlander is frequently best in class. We are on our 3rd, there are 2 sitting in our driveway. We purchased the first one with 119K miles on it and it was well over 200K when we got rid of it. MIL also drives one. Super reliable, comfortable vehicle with lots of great options.

I'm short so I had to raise the seat all the way up and it still felt like it was hard to see. Thank you for the information on the mechanical side! It's probably last on the list right now. Do your research if you buy a used Traverse. I know there were several problems with some years of them. Two of my siblings each had one and traded them in faster than any other car. I will keep this in mind. Thanks!

In the summer I bought a used BMW X5 with the third row and 4WD and it’s fantastic. I did want smaller though. The pilot was too big and boxy. The highlander was nice but I wanted the extra large sunroof that the X5 had. In the highlander, the roof only came with pilot seats in the second row and I wanted regular seats in the second row. I disliked the 2 screens in the Acura MDX. I also felt I couldn’t get the seat up high enough for me. I much preferred the one screen that could split screen if wanted and the high driver seat.
My priorities were Birdseye camera view on screen, extra large sunroof, 4WD, third row, not too long, and if possible rear heated seats.
I love the extra features of my car and it’s fun to drive. Happy shopping.

We have an Outback. No 3rd seat. If you want a third seat, consider the Subaru Ascent. The Forester is smaller than the Outback.
Don’t recommend Ford, at all. They will not stand behind their product. Once upon a time, all we owned was Fords.
Another in that size range to consider is the Nissan. Can’t remember the name of it. A friend has one and it’s super comfortable. She was happy with the MPG on a cross-country trip, too.

I drive a GMC Acadia Denali and I love it! We traveled 2,000 miles in it last summer with 4 grown children and we had plenty of room. I love the way it handles and I love its size.

I loved my Volvo XC90. Have you looked at those? I sold it to my sister for a BMW X5 which was great also. The XC90 is still being driven by my sister 14 years later. She has LOVED it, and they have only spent $1,000 in repairs over that entire time they have had it. I no longer have my X5 as I have something I like better now but the Volvo and BMW are still great SUVs. I had both the Volvo and BMW for 5 years with only one problem from the X5 but it was under warranty and fixed for free. That was it out of 5 years with each of those SUVs.

I recently purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee and LOVE IT! We looked at all of the other crossovers and Ijust felt they were all just mini mini-vans with AWD and hinged side doors added. I have bad knees so the lower entry on all of these were a complete turn off for me. The height of the JGC was perfect. I didn't need a third row seat - so if you are looking for that then JGC won't work for you.

I think we hit 300K miles and did not take care of it. The a/c was out at the end, with a few other more minor issues. When we were looking into cars year before last we discovered that the latest model had a lot of issues. So before purchasing that one I’d do more research. We really liked it, but prefer the Highlander.

DH drives a Lexus SUV but we have owned an Explorer in the past. My sister and I recently rented an Explorer for a road trip and we LOVED that car! there were four of us and the three rows in the car were more than enough to hold us, our luggage and our cooler. there were so many great amenities in that car so that everyone was comfortable throughout the trip. it's a big car but it handled really well. my sister drove and she is tiny. she had no problem maneuvering it through the mountains and even into tight parking spots. i haven't stopped raving about it to DH. someday, we want to tow a small camping trailer and the Explorer will definitely be the top of option for towing it.

I had a 2015 Acadia and LOVED LOVED LOVED IT. But I do not like the new style they came out with. It feels way smaller inside. So I'm no help!!

Chevy completely redesigned the Traverse that model year and they knocked it out of the park. It’s an amazing vehicle. No negatives here either. I traded a 2012 Traverse on it that I liked a lot and never had any problems with but this new one...love it!

we have a Ford Flex and love it -seats 6 (I think there's a 7seat option though) - we usually keep the 3rd row seats folded but it's nice to have the option of adding the 5th or 6th seat when needed.

We have a Lincoln Navigator that's almost 5 years old. We'll trade it for a new one this year. We also have a one year old Ford Explorer.
We *love* our Lincoln. I can't say enough good about it. Highly recommend it. (Also love the black label service.)
The Explorer isn't bad. However it's on the small side. It does have three rows of seating. We've not had any mechanical issues,I hope that doesn't change. I'm 5'3 1/2 and once I've adjusted the seat I've not had any problems seeing.
We like the Explorer and would recommend it. However between the two,the Lincoln is our first choice.
