Waiting room TVs. Does anybody really want these??? I just sat down in the waiting room at my gyn and the big screen TV is blasting The View or whichever show has a table full of screeching women. This is not something I would ever in a million years voluntarily watch. I'm usually jittery in a doctor's office, anyway (no reason this time, just my yearly) and those screeching voices make me want to jump out the window. Why can't we just sit in quiet and look at magazines??
I know I've ranted about this before, but I need to vent my frustration. This time I'm going to leave a complaint on that review the hospital pesters me to take every time I have a hangnail looked at.
Feel free to leave your first world vent here, too. I know I'm hugely privileged to be able to see a doctor and have it be paid for.

Definitely hate them! My car dealer always has something on Fox, or something like Geraldo (or maybe he is on Fox)... Fox News one time and I thought that was particularly ironic since just about everyone who works at my dealer is an immigrant (I'm making that assumption based on the accents) or a son/daughter of an immigrant. Do you remember Virginia's (Compwalla) TV zapper thing? There are times I do wish I had one.

Those and Gas Pump News! You have to be pretty bad off if you can't pump gas for 2 minutes with being "entertained". And I use that word loosely. What's wrong with just quiet?

My car dealer always has something on Fox, or something like Geraldo My car dealership has way too much going on - they have 3 TVs in the waiting area on different walls and all on different channels and all with the sound on. They have a room next to it for kids, with a TV on in there on a kid's channel - cartoons usually. They have music playing overhead and next to that is the showroom that has music playing but not the same music that is in the waiting area.

I don't mind them when they're muted and subtitles are on. But I'd rather the news or a tv show than a talk show.

The nail salon has some men working in it and they always change HGTV to soccer. I hate it. For some reason, the background noise of crowd of screeching spectators irritates the crap out of me. I'll take the View ladies. They only screech part of the time.

My car dealer is actually better than any of my doctors. Usually the TV is on HGTV, which I don't love but it's less hysterical, and they keep the volume low. I was in there getting my car inspected last month and the TV was OFF. It was heavenly! At one point, one of the employees asked the room at large if we wanted the TV on, and all seven or eight of us, who were sitting and reading or messing on our phones in blissful quiet, looked up and shook our heads. He seemed taken aback! It was pretty funny.

Well I will be a dissenter. I usually want something to just kind of stare at, and I don’t care what is on. I can kind of get engrossed in anything when I need to. Most places where I see them have the volume very low (my first world problem...hahaha) so I like it when they use the subtitles/captioning. Mystie, sorry it was making an already unpleasant situation worse.

I don’t mind them but I think it would be smart if they wouldn’t put it on political news channels like the one place we were at...a huge argument broke out and people were asked to leave. Granted I think a business should be able to put on whatever they want and adults behave accordingly but this was just setting up a fight waiting to happen.

Why do medical offices always have The View and Fox News? Drives me crazy.

I agree! I’d much rather some calming scenes or soft music.

I used to own a device called a tv-b-gone. A little universal remote control that looks like a car alarm key fob and turns most TVs off and on again.
Doesn't damage the TV in any way. Just turns it off.
I used to use it a lot in medical waiting rooms where there was a TV blaring. Nobody cared. Nobody was watching. Someone might look up in curiosity, but not a single person asked the receptionist to turn it back on.
I ended up giving it to a friend who was dealing with a lot of waiting rooms and never got it back. I may buy another one.

I have to go for bi-weekly infusions. In their waiting room it's usually some DIY show, but today it was King of Queens. The dialysis center used to have CBS on or something like that. Thankfully I was never in their waiting area long.

They had on some 20 mins loop of medical "news." I could have died right there.

I can handle HGTV. Those shows are pretty tame. I hate when tvs have Fox News or for that matter, any news channel in waiting rooms.

My doctor's office has one that isn't blaring at all, very low sound.. it's always on some weather channel. I don't mind it. I really don't mind any of them if it keeps me distracted or if for some reason I don't have my phone or the battery is low.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree !!!!! One time it was SO FREAKING LOUD, I even asked the staff "doesn't this BOTHER you !??!" and the lady said no, not really. I could NOT work all day with a loud, annoying TV like that !!!!!! My friend and I were just talking about these damn TVs the other day, and it reminded me of the time my brother and I we were in the ER, waiting with my Dad while his second wife was being examined. My Dad was SO ANNOYED by that damn LOUD TV, he literally got up on the (low) table to TURN IT OFF (this was in the mid-eighties, Dad had had a few glasses of cabernet annd a LOT of chutzpah!)

I almost always use the hotel gym when I travel. The TV is almost always blaring when I walk in the exercise room, even though there is no one else there. I always turn it off, and get out my iPad and read while I'm on the treadmill. It never fails that someone (usually a man) walks in and turns the tv on and turns up the volume as loud as it will go. They seldom ask me if I mind. Then that person will mess around with the equipment for five minutes or so and leave w/out turning off the tv. I have to either pause my workout and turn off the tv or just live w/ the tv blaring in the background until I finish my workout.

I don't care what the channel is, I don't like them. I usually try to read in waiting rooms and often find it impossible because the TVs are blasting away (and usually nobody is watching them!)

The noise level is my vent. Anyone who has headaches/concussion related issues knows what I'm talking about. Boarding airplanes, stores, places in general with overhead music just too loud. Very inconsiderate IMO.
