Further proof to me that Jeremy should have stayed as an activist and not become a leader. He has no leadership qualities.

It wouldn't surprise me if a few more joined them now that the lid has been lifted. The labour party hung themselves the minute they voted Jeremy Corbyn as their leader IMO.

Can you break down what this means for those of us in the US who read it with bewilderment? I read a couple articles trying to figure it out but I remain confused!

In short, the seven MPs are free to vote whatever way they wish without having to follow the party line. Will make some upcoming votes interesting.

Countries dividing and destroying themselves from within. Putin must be thrilled.

I am not following this mess closely, but have to say good for them. I wish something similar would happen in US politics.
In Canada, we have seen parties crash and burn at both the provincial and federal level and I admire those able to say enough is enough and walk away.

I've had a look at the new composition of the House of commons, Labour started this session with 262 MPs now have 248. Will be interesting going forward.
From the BBC
How many MPs are independent? The resignation of seven Labour MPs leaves Jeremy Corbyn with 248 MPs under his leadership. For now, the new group will sit as independents, but could soon form a new political party.
Five other MPs are already sitting as independents after leaving the Labour Party for various reasons, but they are not part of an organised group.
Separately, Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya was kicked out of the party when she was jailed in January.
There are two other independent MPs - former Lib Dem Stephen Lloyd, who quit his party because he disagrees with them on Brexit, and North Down MP Lady Sylvia Hermon - a former Ulster Unionist.

I think the chances of more MPs leaving to join this breakaway group seem quite high. I wonder if they will for a new party.

Any bets on how long it will be before he’s in a position to stage a leadership bid, notwithstanding the final paragraph of the article?

Corbyn hasn't been the success many expected, I can't see him being any better although he was more 'charismatic' - at least compared to Corbyn

Plus talk of three Tories leaving tomorrow, Anna Soubry is one suggested name. Heard it on Newsnight.

So they've left because of the Tories 'shift to the right'...saying that the party of economic stability is now risking massive instability via Brexit. They have a point...
