Do you do awesome pedicures on yourself? Are you good at it? How did you get good? I had one for my birthday in November and it was nice enough but I wanted it to be earth-shatteringly amazing. My calves just have not a lot of feeling in them. My feet, though, feel too much. They are not ticklish but everything bugs them.
How do you do your own pedicures? Remove polish often and keep applying? Do you like painting your toes or you just do it? I really want tips and tricks.
Thanks!(

Yes I do great pedicures on myself - but I prefer to have it done to me as a treat.
Remove polish shape/trim nail on one foot Apply cuticle cream, soak foot Do nails on other foot Apply cuticle cream and soak Do cuticle work on both, you need the right tools Use foot rasp Massage iin moisturiser Remove cream from nails and paint as usual.
Polish lasts ages on my toenails so when it needs replacing I often do the whole pedicure again.

I used to but now that I have a toenail fungus I guess I won't be going back for a while.

gar how did you get good? Practice? The more you do anything the better you will be at it. I'm sure there are a ton of YouTube videos out there with tips on doing your own.

I’m great at painting my fingers and my toes. I practiced a whole lot. Mostly because I can’t afford to go and get my nails professionally done every other week, but I still want to have pretty nails.
I suck at the other aspects of pedicures though.

I stink at doing my own pedicure, but I'm going to practice and get better! I used to get regular mani/pedis and decided last year to quit spending the time/money on it and started doing my own manicures and a lot less pedicures. Since then I have really improved my skills and actually enjoy doing my nails. I like to change my fingernail polish color to match my outfits, so I polish two-three times a week now. My nails have actually improved a lot since I started doing them at home, too. Now I just need to get practicing on my toes!
One thing that has helped with my manicures...I got a pair of reading glasses so I can SEE my nails better! HUGE help!

Wanted to add - I use this top coat that makes it easier because it’s fast dry. My usual routine is to polish late in the evening before Or during watching a tv show for the night and by the time the show is over they are completely dry, no problem.

I do my own and am decent at it. I can't do anything fancy. I like to use Zoya products because they last and last. I rarely get any chipping before it's time to take it off.

I do it myself, but only in the summer. I only work with polish in the bathroom, as I can get any spilled polish off the tiles. (thank God DD listened to this--she spilled an entire bottle when she was 12 ish and it all wiped up, but a little encouragement from polish remover. If that isn't an option, but sure to use a towel under your foot.
I put cream on my feet nightly and don't worry about any calluses, so I don't buff them away (but I also don't have anything horrible to write home about.) I trim my nails when I'm changing polish, but that only needs to be done every other month or so. Other than that, I just apply the polish and go. It looks fine. They are feet! I'll touch up the polish once, then remove it and reapply. Probably once a month or so.
The tip to get a pair of cheater glasses to use for applying the polish is good. Your regular cheaters won't work because the distance is greater than where you would hold a book.
Now is the time to practice--your shoes will cover up any mistakes and by summer, you will have mastered the skill.

Nope. I suck at it, and pay for a gel pedi every 4-6 weeks. Not worth the stress for me to get it right.

I do mine sometimes in the summer and will need to do them before we go on vacation. I’m not great at it though.

I pay for a pedicure every 6 weeks in the summer. But on at the three week mark I do my own pedicure. So I alternate in the summer. In the winter I do my own but not the polish. Amope Pedi is a great tool to deal with dry heals and such!

My sister trained to be a manicurist years ago and used me as her practice dummy. I had to go with her for her licensing test as well. Just having her do mine so many times, I picked it up.
I prefer going to a salon salon as a treat, but only if they speak English. With my Fibromyalgia, my shins have trigger points on them and while I love a foot massage, I jump out of my skin with pain when they try to massage my shins. Especially since it is typically their thumb digging into the shin with a lot of pressure as a byproduct of their grip for a deep massage on the calf muscles. I have had a few technicians that didn’t speak English and I couldn’t get across to then to use all the massage time on my feet. I end up with no massage at all. I finally learned to talk to the front desk person and just tell them I had an injury and not to massage my legs at all.

I really do not expect earth-shattering from a manicure or a pedicure. I see it as a chore to get done, no different than a hair cut.

I honestly would just as soon do my own as I do as good a job or better than most places. I've also been nicked or over-abraded before at salons and that really turns me off.
I'm far from having tried very place in town, but of the ones I have been to, none really impress me. I had a wonderful pedicure while down in Charleston with girlfriends recently, but that's a little far to go every six weeks. Lol.

I asked this question in a beauty group I belong to and consensus there also was they get it done but don’t enjoy the process. I looks so amazing in videos. Massaging my calf muscles just aren’t a thing for me. Back, shoulders and neck are though.

You get good with practice.
I do the following:
1. Cut nails to desired length 2. Remove old polish (I do this after I cut my nails because the whites of my nails sometimes don't align with how short I want my nails to be) 3. File nails, if necessary 4. Put on cuticle remover. Push back cuticles. Wipe away cuticle remover. 5. Use cuticle nippers if necessary. I have really dry cuticles ALL THE TIME, so I almost always need to do this. I know people say it's bad, but I need it. 6. Use pedicure razor on calluses (I don't do this every time. Just maybe once a month/every two months, when I really need to.) 7. Buff nails with foam filing block 8. Use acetone to clean surface of nail 9. Use base coat, sometimes. 10. Polish and use quick dry top coat.
The end.

I go get pedicures about every 8 weeks. I hate feet, and I don't want to rub any, my own included. I don't really enjoy getting them done, but I'd rather deal with it and have my feet look as nice (well, as nice as feet are going to look ). I almost never have socks or shoes on when I'm home, so pretty toenail polish makes me happy to see. I'm not a fan of any type of massage, so I could pass on those completely. I like the idea of painting my nails, but every time I do, it peels off right away. I was getting dip powder done for a little while, and it looked nice, but I hated how it looked when it grew out. Last month they were really grown out, and I hadn't gotten in yet to get them re-done and then I got sick. I ended hitting one and it broke off and my real nail was in terrible shape. I got the rest off and have just left them bare letting them heal.
