Does the hoard belong to the owners or the neighbors? Either way, I'm sorry that it didn't work out, but a much better house is waiting for you.

This picture is a few years old. The green in the middle is the property we were looking at. The north and east is the forest. Directly south is now a muddy junkyard. The collection of buildings to the southeast are abandoned trailers and trash. The first section of the private drive (coming off of the main road) is really steep and a sharp incline. When we pulled in, the front of my dh's jeep (which has a liftkit) scraped. The ruts were so deep, I could have gotten out without stepping down.

I'm sorry it didn't work out.
No way I'd buy a place with a shared access. I can see the potential for lots of problems.

I am sorry it didn't meet your expectations.
I learned in my last house search that it was best to have no high hopes looking at any house. After we saw houses on the net that looked great (and all were less than 5 years old in nice neighborhoods) but
1. Had converted the garage and laundry room to a fish cleaning station. The smell... 2. Dark floors and walls initially hid the fact that the place was crawling with roaches. (And that was in a super nice neighborhood. My realtor said that if they weren't taking care of the bugs, what else were they not taking care of?) 3. Reeked of mold. 4. Had removed a load bearing wall. And not replaced it with a post or beams. etc.

It's all well and good to suggest that she offers less money so she can fix the road, or fix it herself, but that isn't going to fix these problems: The other sides look like a post apocalypse wasteland. A kennel with a multitude of dogs. I've never been so grossed out by my surroundings. look like a playground in the middle of a landfill, that is.... Ugh, sounds awful! I'm sorry that it didn't work out **Angie**, it really did sound like the perfect house on paper. these things come with the territory when you buy a large property in the middle of the woods, in my experience.

The funny thing is that it is right outside of city limits, in one of the most expensive areas. I knew going in that it wouldn't actually be perfect, but I was really surprised that those properties were that nasty.

I'd walk away quickly. Sorry, because it looked perfect.

That reminds me of the nightmare I had a couple of years ago. I couldn't find a job here in Colorado. We could have sold our house and have a decent amount of equity to almost buy a house in Missouri free and clear. I hunted on Realtor.com for a month. Found some 'perfect' places. Drove out to KC and spent two days chasing my tail. The first house started it all. The picture was cute, inside looked good, needed some updates (which we knew).. My uncle who was with us, went down to the basement (only took two stairs) and said get out.. It was all black from mold. Plus the neighbor had a couch on the front porch plus the rest of the garbage. It was two FULL days of this.
It's so hard!! I'm so sorry.. the description sounds great until the road/neighbor thing.
