I know I could probably find out elsewhere but I'm tired today. If I cancel my account, can I still listen to my books through the app? Or better yet, is there a way to just "pause" my account and re-start it once I've caught up with some of my book backlog?

Yes - you can do both. I know my sister suspended her account for a period of time so she didn't earn credits but she could still listen to books and wasn't charged.
She ultimately decided to cancel her subscription but she can still listen to all the audiobooks that she purchased, through the audible app

Yes you can still listen to any of the books you've bought if you cancel. But don't cancel if you have credits available - you'll lose them! You can pause your account for up to 3 months one time per year. I have mine on pause right now.
