Why do people think it’s okay to play videos, games, etc on their phones with the sound on? I’m sitting in the doctors office waiting to have a procedure done & this guy across the room has his phone loud enough for me to hear over the tv I’m sitting next to. I keep giving him side eye, but no effect. I’m trying to relax because I’m a little nervous & this guy is stressing me out. Gah, some people are just so rude.

UGH. How rude. Especially in a place like a waiting room, where people may not feel well and are stressed. Honestly? I would probably ask him to turn it off poliety.

That's almost as much of a mystery to me as people who make speakerphone calls in public. I hate it.

Because people feel entitled! They also don't care about the footprint they leave when it comes to their phones.
It's the video games/ thinking I want to hear their one sided conversation/ the annoying fucking sounds they've added to alert them when they get a text msg or a call.
Once while siiting in the waiting room on the Neuro floor while Spencer was having a surgery a lady came and sat down I was visibly upset and crying she gave not 2 shits about my distress and started texting away with that annoying clicking sound and then was calling people talking about trivial crap.
I wanted to say to her not sure if you're fucking aware of it but you actually have the capability to turn off that annoying clicking as you type and can set your phone to vibrate so I and other family members sitting here don't have to hear every alert.
From then on I said if I was in a situationl ike that again I'd said something.

Because people are self centered idiots.
I was on the train one night and this woman was going through all of her ringtones...on the train!! She lasted maybe a minute before someone yelled at her. WTH?

Especially when you are there with a concussion. That kind of headaches is bad enough without being aggravated by an inconsiderate $%@#.
I'm irritated by "those" people.

That's the worst kind of repetitive, loud, obnoxious noise that no one else wants to hear. Not that the stuff they typically show on those waiting room TV's is all that great, but at least it's easier to tune out if you want to. Hopefully, it's already a non-issue by the time you read this and you've gotten in to see the Doc for a fabulous appointment.

This is my number one pet peeve >> devices without earphones and speaker phone conversations. It is so rude and inconsiderate. Especially if more than one person is doing it, and the overhead radio or television is on. Plus overhearing random nearby talking/conversations. It is sensory overload.
I consider people who do this >> self-entitled assholes.
I think some of this could be resolved, if businesses would post signs saying "Please keep the volume turned off, on all devices. Thank you from the Management". Then if the rule wasn't followed the front desk staff or management could point to the sign and ask the offender to turn off their volume.
I feel the same way, about people who are on their phone when it's their turn to conduct whatever business (check out at store, at post office counter, at Doctor office front desk, etc...). Get off your phone and devote your full attention to the business being conducted at that very moment. People on their phone while conducting business go slower, aren't paying full attention, etc... therefore causing the whole process to go slower, therefore causing delays for the people in line behind them.

I speak up and politely ask them to turn off their sound. They are mostly clueless people with no manners and have to be told. They mostly comply. The few that don't then have to put up with me talking about classless, clueless, losers who make everyone miserable with their toys or I just enter the conversation that they are having have on speaker.

Drives me crazy too! Once I was in an MD's office and this couple in their 70's came in and he started playing on his phone with the volume way up. Wife said something to him and he claimed it was fine and continued So completely annoying! I can't stand when people are all texting back and forth with the ringer on to...my phone is on silent anytime i'm out somewhere.

I don't understand how people are so clueless about annoying behavior.
I would add chewing gum or wearing strong perfume when at events where you are sitting close to other people. I think both are obnoxious at any time, but especially when someone is chomping in your ear (like at a kid's concert).

I hate when parents let their kids do this. I get that sometimes you just need and easy way to entertain your kid if you are going to be waiting a while. But the rest of the people in the room are not interested in "learning" Spanish from Dora the Explorer. Get the kids some headphones or have them play a game with no sound.

"Go with the meatloaf for dinner!" from the speaker phone: "Who was that?" "I'm the person sitting here in the waiting room listening to every single thing you have to say over the speaker phone." I have to admit that I like your approach.

I hate this too, but will never say anything. The people around here are so entitled, they become combative. It's not worth it, so I have my headphones in pretty much all the time on bus or subway.

Last week, in the Dallas airport, a couple (maybe in their 60's) decided to watch a movie together. They turned it on and watched it from their iPad. They apparently didn't hear well. I was watching my own YouTube video on silent and gave them front eye (side eye was not available) twice. The guy eventually got the hint and he took out earbuds and shared. It was kind of funny how everyone around me did the same thing. This was after our flight had been delayed twice, then boarded and deboarded and delayed again. Most people were anywhere from peeved to pissed.

I work on a trade floor so it's an open concept and I have a guy that sits no more than 4 ft from me that every single day grates on my last damn nerve with the noises he makes. At this moment, he's chewing his gum like a damn cow. He drinks 2 cups of coffee every day and each drink he takes.....he slurps and slurps loud. I literally have to put my headphones on for fear of losing my shit.

Thanks for validating me! I'm another one who puts her phone on silent when in public. I was just so annoyed especially because I was nervous about the procedure ( an SIS ultrasound in case anyone is interested ). It went fine I'm home now. Another weird thing about this guy (and his wife) is that they had their toddler with them & she was quietly looking at her books. How often is a toddler better behaved than the parents?

It's so rude! My DH had an MRI the other day. I was sitting in the waiting room with 2 other people while he was gone. One was a grandmother with little toddlers who were tearing the place apart and very loud. She had zero control over them. The other was an older lady who was playing Candy Crush with her volume up all the way. I normally would have walked the halls to get away from it, but the MRI waiting room in our hospital is off by itself with an outside entrance and doesn't really have a hallway so I was stuck with them. So annoying!

YUP!!! Validate you a 100% I spent most of my life time in a Dr's. office, Even in the quiet room in the recovery where the family sits. I am shocked that people do their own thing and talk at normal tones etc.. I'm always on silent, but I do my coloring and scrabble without sound anyway. You can mention it to a registar nurse if there is one checking people in. Especially if your nervous. Otherwise you just end of pacing or changing seats. I hope everything is okay.

I'd love to do this at the gym to the two ladies that feel the need to chat loudly the whole time they are on the treadmill.

People loud talking to each other doesn't bother me as much as someone where you are stuck hearing only one side. People talking on their phones on the plane drive me crazy.
