Ah, house hunting...so many highs and lows. So many opportunities to say "what the Everlasting hell is THAT?!?" Take this one for example. Low price for this area, just means we'd have a nice budget to update things. Good bones, all working fireplaces. The tub is a bit freaky, but again, update it. But, what the hell is picture #14?? I seriously cannot figure it out. www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/32-East-St_Westover_WV_26501_M48444-42701#photo0

Looks like a basement that was turned into some “rumpus room” in the ‘70s and hasn’t been touched since.

Man cave?
That house is...ummm...interesting. The purple fireplace had me scratching my head.
But for 135,000 I could probably live with it...if it was near me. In which case it would cost twice that I assume

It looks like something Greg Brady would have designed. That is some serious 70ness going on.

That house has a lot of odd corners inside, like in the bathroom and entry where they've installed a fireplace. But my guess for picture #14 is that's where the ghost of the person they bricked in (photo #20) lives.

Looks like a very 70s lounge or den. Sunken floor, paneling, cheap stained glass. Probably had a bar and sectional sofa.

I prefer house #2, though it has too much wood for my taste. One of the first things I'd do if I live there would be to add better access to the attic bedroom.
I LOVE the attic bedroom. It would be super cool to turn it into a master suite.
The copper tile ceiling in the kitchen is very nice. I'd keep the wood in the kitchen, but either paint over the rest or remove it.

I like the first house better. I would even be tempted to keep parts of the "man o'shag carpet room". Insofar as the tub, I was in a house here in Los Angeles where the owner redid her plumbing (installed grey water system) so that she could justify having a tub like that.
Also I am not a carpet person so every last bit of it would be out. With a little TLC it could be awesome. Mint juleps on the porch in summer.

That first house is scary as hell - how many fireplaces are there? Way too claustrophobic. The smaller second house looks soooo much bigger - and cleaner and lighter!
I'm looking at the prices and wow ... here in Southern California it's a whole different ballgame!

House 1: first thought, That 70’s Show, man cave, swingers den.
House 2: way better! Although I am not a fan of so much wood, it’s very pretty. Way less work to do and I love the openness of it. Also the tin ceiling is very cool!

#14 in the first house: put in a pulpit and you could start your own church/cult. It's not a bad house. I hope you are up for a lot of painting and wall paper removal.
I like the second house better.

You can tell by the updated handicap shower.

#2 looks absolutely filthy on the outside, I'd worry about the walls and roof. Looks poorly maintained. Maybe a power wash would fix it up though. The inside was surprisingly clean though cluttered.

I thought it was a carpeted step to a hot tub too. It could be a prayer room with the stain glass. Or a sauna. At the bottom it's under Exterior and Lot Features, porch deck, private yard.
