OMG, started watching Ricky Gervais in 'After Life' tonight w/DH. Amazing. Ricky has a way of writing characters and stories that make me uncomfortable, angry, and then hit me in the gut w/a stunning line of truth or recognition. Highly recommend. Here's part of a review that concurs: " Only Ricky Gervais could serve up comedy gold playing the role of a grieving, suicidal widow, yet After Life is already being hailed as his finest work. The six-part Netflix 'dramedy' premiering this Friday (March 8th) serves up an intoxicating mix of despair, tragedy, sitting humour and, ultimately, hope for Gervais's tortured character Tony, as he tries to find a way to come to terms with the death of his wife Lisa from cancer." www.independent.ie/entertainment/television/hope-is-everything-ricky-gervais-speaks-to-independent-ie-about-his-stunning-new-netflix-show-after-life-37888865.html

I love it and hate it. I think it is incredibly well-written and so very true. If it weren't for the brief dry humor and the scenes with Harriet Jones, I wouldn't be able to watch it.

We binged this last weekend. Beautiful, simple, understated and moving. Very Gervais. I really liked Derek, too, mind you and was surprised at the hate it received.

I'm a big fan of his, but wasn't expecting to like this one. It was excellent!

Finished it. Cried almost the whole last episode.
Penelope Wilton is a treasure.
Gervais is a brilliant writer.
Hope it comes back for another season.

I watched it last week, wanted to watch one episode out of curiosity, and then binge watched the rest in the subsequent few hours. I really liked it, and laughed out loud many times, even though it was so sad.
I'm on the fence about what happened to Julian though.
I love watching Ricky Gervais when he is being himself - chat shows, the Oscars etc, but up until now I haven't liked any of his TV shows.

Love Ricky Gervais- he was on the Graham Norton show last night. We have put this on our list to watch. I'm not sure if I can watch it right now- a very close friend is doing it very tough with cancer and I don't know it will be too personal for me. Corinne

I loved the show. It was funny, sometimes cringe worthy, lovely and sad...all wrapped up together. It's nice to be entertained and be made to think too.
