DD#2 and I hit many thrift stores (and ice cream shops) last week. We had a blast! I could have purchased so much more but I need nothing so I kept it to a minimum. Here is what I got for $8.50. There are two books (one of which is REALLY cool), patterns I have never seen before, an awesome piece of granite just the right size, etc. My blog post has many more photos and explains it all and what I will use everything for. Anyway, just wanted to share, and if y'all are ever in Durham, NC, definitely go to The Scrap Exhange Thrift. Holy cow, is all I will say!! 🙂 triplethescraps.blogspot.com/2019/03/850-thrift-shopping-trip.html

Nice! I got a piece of granite like that too, not long ago. Mine says 'Santa Helena' on the back in black marker. It makes a fantastic paperweight for holding stuff down while it dries flat, and for squaring up edges. Pretty sure these are former samples from stores that sold counter top installations. Hope you enjoy yours too, you got a much better price than I did, good job!

I have that same Mc Call's pattern! Every year, Grandma would sew us grandkids pjs for Christmas. I took all of those pj patterns to remember her. And I'm laughing--there's 50 cents marked on the envelope, but you can see that the original price was 46 cents. I guess that's inflation!

The Stretch n Sew patterns bring back both good and bad memories of my childhood. I loved the clothes my mom made because they were unique, but trips to the Stretch n Sew store were horrendously boring experiences.
The shop was about an hour away from home, so Mom spent a good long time when we made the trip.
My brother and I still whine about it occasionally and it's been over 40 years!

I have a piece from my mother's remodel that I have used for about 9 years but it's too big. This one is a perfect size. I also have scraps from my own kitchen in my basement but I don't want to use those.

Mom saw my photo, and she said she has that same pattern and made pjs for us when we were little. I too laughed at the original price and the $0.50. Yep, that's wonderful inflation!

Here’s what I found yesterday at Goodwill. Everything was New. Ink pads are sealed.

Went to one of those giant garage sales held in an event center this morning. I found some Basic Gray papers, a large new rubber stamp of a sunflower, some rust embossing powder and lots of sewing patterns from the 40's for $.50 each. Also bought myself some items for my collections that are non-scrappy.

I actually took sewing classes at the Stretch & Sew store near me before & after we married, so I'm thinking early to mid-70's. I made lots of T-shirts & tank tops for both of us, poly stretch bell bottoms, hot pants, & even made some lacy underwear. But I thought that was going a bit far. The "classiest thing" I made was a maroon & white leisure suit for my DH for Easter. Wow - I haven't though of stretch & Sew for years!

I am beginning to wonder if we (Mom and I) have never heard of Stretch & Sew because we were in Europe in the 70s/80s. Maybe that's why we missed them.
