....as big as a pinky nail. Looked like a piece of towel lint. Rare find at Oceanside beach......
It's a nudibranch!

Love them! I was a marine biology major in college. Spent many hours hunting tide pools.

They are “sticky” and the shells stick to them. They’re also used for protection. funny story.... a kid I was in college with paid another kid $20 to stick their tongue in a sea anemone. They got stung. Tongue swelled up. Stupid kids.

That nudibranch is the Spanish Shawl, and is my favorite. My second favorite is the lemon drop nudibranch. Love the little puffball of gills on his/her hind end.

I would NOT recommend it. I ended up with a BS in Earth Systems Science & Policy with an Iintegrated Science Emphasis when I graduated because there are ZERO jobs in marine biology and I didn’t want to starve. I had $25k in loans. Went into teaching and never looked back. I have been teaching math and science for 21 years and added a STEAM elective to my school this year.

Unfortunately, jobs are not plentiful and she is working as a Leasing Agent. Fran

Way cooler than when I found a sea cucumber, which was phallically creepy and disgusting!
