you forget why you took a picture and then printed it! OR what the picture is of. I'm working on my Europe vacation from summer of 2017 and there are SO MANY pictures of things we saw. I printed off all these pictures right when we got back in hopes of getting it done ASAP so I wouldn't forget.
So now I'm sitting here deciding- Do I just include the pictures (usually something we saw on a tour, not of our family) and just not label or journal about them Or do I leave them out!
Decisions! Am I alone in this?

I do this too. I was looking through a folder of pictures on my laptop that I intended to get printed. Most were obvious but there is a group that I had a plan for but can’t remember what it was. I can’t for the life of me see how they are connected. I thought maybe a month in review but they aren’t all from the same month. 🤷🏻♀️

When we've taken a longer/bigger vacation in the past I've always kept a daily journal just to document what we did each day, etc. So that helps a lot. I gotta say though I've gotten where I take a lot less photos. For me I don't need a whole album to tell a story or highlight an event. That's just 20 years of my personal experience talking so take it for what it's worth.

When we were in Europe we were out from breakfast to literally melting into bed each night! I'm so hoping that our next vacation I can journal since we'll have down time for naps this time around, but since it'll be Disney, it'll be easier to remember everything! All the random artifacts from Pompeii, the Vatican and other places we visited are all jumbled! I know there was a story somewhere in there...

I had that issue when I made my scrapbook of 4 years living in Japan and visiting all kinds of temples and beautiful places. It was pre-digital so I had all the prints and no geotags or timestamps. My albums were pretty straightforward anyway, lots of multi photo spreads and not much fancy stuff. There were lots of temples that I never even knew the names of, and although they were pretty, after a while they all blended together a little bit and they weren't especially significant to me or anybody else.
I ended up making some pages that were just "views around Kyoto" or "beautiful temples I saw in March" with lots of cropped photos on one page/double page spread.
If the photos weren't nice to look at, if they didn't make me smile, or if they were just too random I tossed them. I tucked one photo of the giant rope of hair donated by followers of a particular temple into my guidebook where it was described - it was a bit too random and the photo wasn't very clear anyway (which might be for the best because, um, ick!) I just found that again when I pulled out the guidebook to refer to something >.< lol.
I did the same thing with random pictures of my dogs. I'd already documented all the events and stories but I had so many more cute pictures so I just cropped them tightly and tetris-ed them into a double page spread of cute randomness. I like those pages, but they might not work well in other people's albums.

I journal every day when on a vacation like your European trip. I don’t take photos of landmarks without people in the photos. I do try to purchase post cards at each venue. Their photos are better and usually include some info.
I usually try to scrap my trips fairly soon afterward. But I came back early from my last cruise for my brother’s funeral so I have not scrapped that one yet. Maybe that should be a project for me for iNSD...

You might want to look into taking notes on your phone (especially if you're using it as your camera) or using a phone journaling app like Day One which will show timestamps and weather and locations as well. You can quickly type in the basic itinerary for the day and add a few notes when you have some time to spare, drop in a few pictures from your camera roll if you have a specific story you think of. Admittedly I wasn't able to take my own advice on my most recent trip - I wrote some notes the first few days and then got too tired to bother. A notebook turned out to be easier. But now as I drag photos into the app after the fact it's adding timestamps and location info and I can type up the notes I made and other thoughts about the trip. It's really helping me process and remember what we did. (we were also on the go constantly).

Am I alone in this? Are some of the pictures taken at popular tourist areas? If so, could you do a Google search of "10 best tourist places in Paris" or whatever applies to your trip. Maybe you will see something that sparks your memory to help fill in the blanks?

I usually scrap my vacation pictures within a few months of going. I love doing vacation albums. I also am good about taking pictures of signs before I take pictures of the places so I have a good idea of where we are or what we were doing.
If you can't remember what they were, I'd leave them out, or maybe do a page that has just those pictures in them as a fun page about things you have forgotten. Or sit down the people who went on that vacation and let them help you brainstorm.

Nice pics, I would go ahead and scrap. You may find out what it is later. Also if you want to post some here, some of the peas might be able to help you.
I keep a journal on a calendar of where we are every day.

If it’s a landmark you can always do a google picture search. That might help.
Like a lot of people here I keys journal when I travel and try and make notes of my photos. If I’m traveling to more than one city in a day I try and snap something with the city name before taking any pix. It helps.

You all are great with the journal and getting the scrapping done! In my defense, I was pregnant with baby #5 on this trip and just plain exhausted! I know where most of the pictures are from since they are fairly famous places. And I do have my itinerary still from the trip with details of where we were. It's more the random things while there. For example at Pompeii we have a private tour and she told us so many great stories about all the different locations there. I know I snapped pictures for a reason- to remember that story- but now a year and a half later, I just don't remember! Having a baby a few months later and not sleep for the past two years probably hasn't help! I think this next trip I need to spend some time writing down the stories I want to document! Having a photo printer now will help me get started on that album right away!

I'm another one who journals daily but even I end up with photos I thought were important but later can't quite remember why I took the picture. In your situation I would either make a double page with all the random photos and give it a generic title and no real journaling, or I'd toss them and not feel guilty about it.

Been there, done that. The upside is that I usually take a lot of photos in a sequence so I can usually go back and look at the ones near it to figure out what was going on (if there was a special story, well...that might just end up forgotten...I've had to learn to accept that because I have a terrible memory, suck at keeping/referencing a journal and don't scrap quickly enough). If it's something that had a sign accompanying it, I try to remember to take a picture of the sign so I can reference that later if I need help with my memory being jogged.
If I've printed it and already set it up in my album (keep in mind, I mostly PL), I am unlikely to remove it. What I'll do is leave it blank (it doesn't hurt to have pictures included that you don't have anything important to mention) or decorate it and include a word or phrase element. I probably wouldn't go to the trouble of making a 12x12 layout about a photo like that, though.

I was creating an album from an European trip in 1970 !! It was my first European trip and I wanted to have an album to compare to the last and most recent European trip. I used the daily itinerary sheet to reconstruct locations and google to help with the photos! The photo quality is poor in the 1970 pictures - but it is fun recreating that trip!

Sometimes I just make a layout of different places that caught my attention enough to take a photo and tittle it Out and About. Or The houses of ... Roaming in ....The churches of... it doesn’t have to be a specific place, just a city or even a country.

I have to do that with my last trip. Beaches of Southern CA. I cannot remember what beach we were at.
Has anyone ever scrapped all the vaca pics only to stumble across some they did not include years later? I just did that! Not sure what to do with these pics now. Trying to decide if it is worth trying to squeeze in another page to fit them in.

I don't journal when I'm traveling but I haven't done a big two week + trip anywhere either. I usually grab tourist pamphlets wherever we go and then sometimes I cut the description right out of there and stick it on my page. I agree that if the picture makes you happy, scrap it. There's tons of beautiful layouts on Instagram and Pinterest that don't say a darn thing about where they were taken.
