It was this past weekend and so, so much fun! I hardly focused on scrapping. I completed 38 pages, so that was unusually low for me. But, I got a pedi (first time ever), my usual massage and Reiki (I still don’t get it but am glad I tried. I’ll just get a double massage next time, though). For the gift, I was ended up going with plain wine glasses that we painted during our “sip and paint” painting class, a wine glass charm and a coaster with our logo for the weekend. I presented it all in a gift bag that also had the logo. The place cards and T-shirt’s all bore the same logo, along with the itinerary with the schedules for the weekend. (We have a lot going on so that’s the best way for everyone to keep track of their services, classes, meals etc). We played Family feud, had chances to earn tickets all weekend for a raffle, and collected donations for the Local Foster Closet that my sister runs. We had attendees from three generations and four states! One of my sisters and niece are both pregnant so we threw a suprise shower for them and each of them got a scrapbook with pages made by all of us. I made kits for everyone with instructions of where and when to turn the pages into included. My sister and niece got kits for a bogus “page competition” with different instructions. My niece was so cute, she worked really hard to follow all the instructions and made such a cute page. She wanted to win very much, lol.

Sounds like so much fun! I wish my family did something like that.
So funny that 38 pages was an "unusually low" number, hahaha. That's an insanely high number for me!

Errr, schedule and services? Does everyone pitch in with a meal or project? You can order services ahead of time (massage, pedis and reiki treatments). No one has to order but you do need to know when your services are going to be so you are on the premises, so that’s what the schedule is for. Also, with so many people coming and going with services we schedule meals around that. Sometimes we run to the store etc and people ask when they need to be back for services or group activities. This makes it easier. No one is forced to do anything they don’t want- these are all things they request. We had 20 people this year and putting everything on paper is the best way I’ve found to do it. Otherwise, I spend my whole weekend answering the same questions over and over. I purchase the supplies for the group project. For meals, we eat out once. The rest of the meals, Once cousin plans the meals, and assigns everyone what to bring. We all take turns preparing and cleaning up for meals. I award tickets for the raffle to those who help. There is about 1/2 that consistently help.

Thanks for answering. That makes sense for the services. It wouldn't be fair to the estheticians/therapists if someone didn't show up (and a bummer if you missed your pampering). I am impressed by your organization and creativity. I wanna be you (or just adopted into the family for the weekend).

What wonderful memories you are all creating! Looks like another successful weekend. With that many cousins, there’s bound to be drama. It’s great that you all get along so well and want to keep it going.

Oh, how fun! I love your weekend logo. Do you do all of the prep work or is it a team effort?

I am impressed by your organization and creativity. I wanna be you (or just adopted into the family for the weekend). The lady who owns this Retreat, (which is a renovated mill that was later a hotel/ bed and breakfast) owns 3 other Retreat buildings in the same small town. The town used to be known for its showboat, which is closed. Now it’s a crafters destination. The building we are in houses two large craft rooms, one that sits 16 and one that sits 24 and an additional 4 4 person crafting suites. Additionally she has an old Victorian home with space for 16 and a 5 person suite, and two old churches from the 1800s, one with a 16 person space and the other with a 24 person space and 5 person suite. The suites are all self contained with their own bathrooms and kitchens. So her buildings have the capacity, when full, to host approx 122 people and we all share the same estheticians and massage therapists, so yeah, if you miss your spot, you are outta luck! I host a fall girls weekend each year as well. I loosly host that one. As in no games, projects etc. we still plan the meals and I collect the money, and place the order for services. Just throwing it out there if anyone from Michigan (or close by) is interested! You can message me at tduby1@me.com.

Oh, how fun! I love your weekend logo. Do you do all of the prep work or is it a team effort? I usually do the majority of it. This year I recruited a few cousins to help (they volunteered) and I was supposed to oversee but when it came down to it- I ended up doing most of it anyway. They just got caught up in life and it got away from them. Which was fine, I have a great system down.

It’s great that you all get along so well and want to keep it going. You know, we have never had ANY drama, amazingly enough. We don’t have many rules but we did agree early on that there would be no political talk, no disparaging of other people’s religious or lack of religious beliefs and no putting down of any religions (even if we don’t think it’s one represented at the weekend because you just never know). It might sound like a bit much to some people rule wise but, like I said, we don’t have drama Generally, we just avoid hot button topics.

Just throwing it out there if anyone from Michigan (or close by) is interested! You can message me at tduby1@me.com. Normally I would pass right by this post being on the East coast, but my cousin is moving to Michigan next month and I have a friend in Saginaw - I was going to blend the two together for a fall visit to Michigan. So I will message you for information because there is a chance I could actually participate! Oh my goodness! How cool would that be for me!

Congrats, tduby1 on another successful fun cousin crop weekend! Sounds like an amazing time, and 38 pages is more than I have ever completed on a weekend even without all the organizing you have been doing! Here's to many more cousin crafting weekends in the future!
