There is debate about whether we have energy, ghosts, whatever for years so I'll let you decide. We are a house divided with half of us believing that all the things can be explained away and half of us happily sharing a home with whatever is here.
I'm renting from a relatives long time girlfriend, she had a home that was empty because she didn't want to rent to strangers but she had gone through a pretty gross divorce and didn't feel like she was ready to make a decision on selling. She asked if I would be interested in renting because she knew I was looking and it would solve both of our problems. (I know, don't rent from people you know but that doesn't work here. Both houses we have lived in in this school district were chosen because they were the ONLY homes for rent at the time. Small towns)
We've been here 9 years and I'm not really sure when things started. I'm trying to remember if it was before DH and I got married 6 years ago or not but I'm not really sure. There are little things all the time, things falling, sudden chills, feeling like you're not alone, squeaks and creaks, etc.
Some of the bigger things-
The area we live in has a heavy Native American history. The area used to be a meeting point for different tribes and back to the early1700's the Wyandot tribe made this area home. My husband sits on the porch a few times a week having a cigar and a bourbon either alone or with a random person walking by who joins him (our entire town is .21 square miles, we look for fun where we can) they've often sworn that they hear drums and chanting in the distance We're in a bit of a holler so all noise is pretty local.
My brother called me as I was driving home once and when the bluetooth picked up he said "Where are you? Seriously, are you fucking with me? You aren't here? I heard you!" I told him to stop talking and to write down whatever he heard/saw and where it was and we would talk about it when I got home. When DH and I pulled in, he gave the envelope to DH and I told him what I heard often that kind of spooked me. We both heard what sounded like a woman softly singing a song that sounds like a lullaby. When I hear it, close my eyes and imagine what I'm hearing its a grandmotherly type in a rocking chair singing lullabies to a toddler. That is exactly what he wrote down.
I have two nephews that will visit, but won't stay in my house alone because "it's creepy" and won't under any circumstances go upstairs. They sleep in my room on the floor with the dogs and will only shower and use the bathroom downstairs.
We've had the same down comforter since we were married and it sheds feathers ALL the time. We've been saying for at least 4 years that it's a wonder that it's not flat at all and that it's stayed so fluffy. I went to a vendor event and had my cards read and she told me that there was a woman, a grandmother with red hair who was a caretaker that wanted us to know that she was looking after us and that she would always take care. She asked what significance feathers have in my life and I wasn't sure that there was one so she talked about it for a while and said it was a really strong sign and that it had to be feathers and that they were a sign of protection. I got home and said "Who do you know that is a nurse or caretaker, with really red hair that hums songs? " He immediately replied "Oh, were you going through pics today? That's my grandmother" Who knows if it's her but we call her granny now and talk to her often. She keeps me company during the day.
we have a dog with no eyes, he will often stand at the bottom of the steps staring up intently and will slowly and loudly bark. Not an aggressive bark, think of a canine slow clap with his voice.
A few years back we had some plumbing issues that resulted in my bathroom floors being ripped up to fix the ceramic pipes underneath. I went back to see how bad it was while the workers were taking a break and I was outraged when I saw fabric down in the hole that looked just like a turkish scarf that I love. It was muddy and in a heap and i was pissed that they would use something of mine to wipe their hands on. I pulled it up and realized that it wasn't my scarf at all, it was a super old womans nightgown that had apparently been buried in the footers of the addition on my house. Nothing else, just one nightgown (no bones or jewelry..I totally searched the poophole)
My neighbor is an active addict and has multiple mental health issues. When he's coming off of meth he hears voices and swears that he has two rooms that have evil in them. We went over and DHs hairs stood straight up on end and he taught the neighbor to just talk to them, tell them you don't mind them being there but that it's not ok to scare them." Like I said, lots of issues but yesterday the neighbor told me that since he started talking to them they haven't scared him at all.
When Jake moved out, the mirror in his bathroom fell off the wall. The screw stayed, the mirror fell and shattered. We bought a new bathroom mirror and that one fell the next day and also shattered. As we were cleaning it up DH said maybe we should talk to them and half jokingly said"You know, this is really getting expensive. I get that you miss him, we do too, but come on, why are you being a dick and creating more work for me? You need a better creative outlet, try pushing the vacuum " We replaced the mirror the next day and it was fine.
When Josh moved out we had 3 days of the front door randomly opening and we kept hearing the floors creak upstairs. We were having dinner downstairs while no one else was in the house and all of a sudden we heard the loudest crash. Every holiday tote that was stacked in the storage room (next to his room) had fallen. DH said it looked like they were picked up and then dropped, even the bottom tote was moved a few feet from the wall. Every single item was out of the tote but not a single thing broke. That night a mirror in his room fell and shattered. We had another chat and it stopped.
I had a new assistant start a few months ago. She had been in the office for maybe 30 minutes before she came to my office and said " I have a really odd question and I know this sounds crazy but I have to know, do you have a ghost or something?" I keep talking to you because I swear you're right in the hallway singing but you're never there. I swear I'm not alone back there. It's not creepy, but it's like I've got a grandmother watching me. I would think it was mine, but she's still alive."
The youngest moved upstairs after the twins both moved out. There has been nothing super hinky since he's been up there aside from thuds and noises in the daytimes when he's gone.
The 3 headed doll is the creepiest new edition. I also found a vintage ouija board and when I asked the owner about it she freaked out and said it had terrible energy and to please not ever play with it. She completely freaked out and hasn't mentioned it since. Super odd. I also found a set of tarot cards (brand new) that I would love to explore with but not until this place gets saged! lol
Aside from the mirrors, she never scares us and I like the energy of my house. I don't know if we've got a spirit or not but it's fun to think about I suppose. I dont' have a lot of history of my house, it was built in the really early 1900s and was on the street that they called "bankers row' because this is where the business men built homes for their families. There is an old nursing home down the street that is super haunted and often hosts ghost hunters. I've meant to sage a few times and have put it off, we're in a massive decluttering and moving everything around project right now so I have a medium that says she will come and make sure things are good. I think I'm putting it off because I'm afraid she'll feel like she has to leave.
Who wants to sleep over? I've got a guest room and a beautiful doll to snuggle with!
The best part? I'm not even sure if I believe in ghosts. What do you think?
