I hope you're right. And his foster parents have to be just sickened by all this. The child she is expecting needs to be taken at birth and NEVER given back along with the other child she has. As a Foster Parent my heart is breaking right now. I soon may have to hand my latest placement back over to the mom who either did the horrific abuse or at the very least knew about it. It sucks. You have no idea how bad the Foster care system can be. Reunification is always the goal, and it shouldn’t be that way. It should be what is best for the kids. I am so sorry. You are a special person and you are exactly right, the child’s best interest should always be the goal.

OMG that has to be heavy on them. I hope someone is keeping an eye on the social worker who sent them back to that house; not blaming him/her but rather they entire system. I worry more that the social worker would harm themselves with the guilt they must feel.

I really hope Family Services does a serious investigation into why this child and his brother were in that home. Born addicted to drugs, 2 years with a foster family, many calls to report an unsafe home, and yet the kids stayed there and look what happened. Reunification is not always what's best If you are really interested in making a difference, please step up and advocate for these kids. There is a variety of ways to do so. Almost every state has some sort of CASA program that provides advocates, often volunteers, to help express the child’s best interests in court cases. I can also recommend that you explore your state’s laws and understand the burdens of proof and basis for removals and the standards for reunification. The standard to remove is much higher than most people Understand and the standard for reunification much lower. Then you can advocate for legal changes to those standards. Often times agencies are forced to return kids even when they don’t believe it’s best for the children. The current standards are weighed heavily in favor of biological families. Sometimes that a good thing; sometimes it leads to tragedies like these. I assure you every person involved with this family is carrying a horrendous burden of guilt right now.

This is just heartbreaking. I don't understand how anyone could do this.

This is so so sad! The system failed this little boy and I just don't understand. In another instance the football player for KCChiefs Tyreek Hill and his fiance are not going to be charged with anything as not enough evidence as the little boy had a broken arm. He won't be charged but CPS is still investigating the couple and they didn't say if they still have custody. WTF. It wasn't the first incedent either. But not enough for them to charge. I don't understand. I know there are a lot of things that have to open up or be very clear. But it's pretty hard when the evidence is there and nothing or something terrible happens to the children. I don't have kids. I can't wrap my head around it. mom my heart hurts for those who looked for him and the officers talking to the 'parent's. the restraint would be hard but they have to do their job.

Thanks for the link. I read the article and I am confused. It says each parent was charged with 5 counts of murder. Who else was killed?

Thanks for the link. I read the article and I am confused. It says each parent was charged with 5 counts of murder. Who else was killed? No one. They Have chosen to charge multiple charges each with an alternative basis or theory of the little boys death. The case and evidence is still being developed and as they get more information they may narrow down the theories or they may proceed under the thought that the facts fit each theory and the just can convict under one or all of the theories but then the counts would merge for sentencing.

The coroner's report is out. This poor baby died from blunt force trauma. The breeder and sperm donor, they don't deserve to be called parents, struck him in the head multiple times and forced him to stay in a cold shower for an extended period of time. Were they hoping to reduce the swelling and bruises? It's estimated that A.J.was dead 3 days before these fuckers reported him missing.
I keep seeing the faces of my 2 grandsons every time I look at A.J.'s picture and imaging how terrified they would be if this happened to them. This just breaks my heart.

I noticed that AJ and each parent have different last names. Is one of them not his bio parent? Just curious since in many of these cases, it's often the mom's bf that is the perpetrator but in this case, it seems like both were bad apples.
As a side note, my crazy ass sister called CPS on me some years ago. A lady did come to the home and talked to me but my DD only had to stick her head out of her room upstairs. Had there really been something going on, the "investigation" was not that thorough. I don't blame CPS though since their hands are tied. They are woefully underfunded and understaffed. May the little guy rest in peace. So sad.

I feel so sad every time I read an article about this little boy's life and death. I have a five year old, and it just guts me to think of the fear he must've felt. How sad and lonely he must've been, if he couldn't even count on his mother's love.
I don't understand how a parent could ever hurt their child. I feel guilty when I eat the "best parts" of my lunch salad without offering to my kid first. (And yes, baby boy will devour all the cheese and avocado and leave mama with just the greens and mushrooms, every time.)

I didn’t read the article, just reading the headline made me feel like I was going to throw up, but apparently AJ previously told a doctor that maybe his mom didn’t mean to hurt him. Just typing that makes me cry. That poor, poor child. What we can anyone do to help these children? Something has to change.
