I'm heading down to North Texas the last week of May to help my Mom celebrate her 75th birthday. She's healthy and adventurous and LOVES horses, so I'm thinking about a couple of days at a "Guest Ranch" as a birthday treat. My research is saying that the best ones might be down in Bandera, but due to some other things we'll have going on, that will probably be a bit far to drive from her place.
Just based on location, I think I've narrowed it down to Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort in Mt. Pleasant or Beaumont Ranch in Grandview. I realize that the first is in the Piney Woods, so horseback rides, etc. might be a tad more scenic but might come with a few more mosquitos??? But the Beaumont Ranch has a really cute looking little "Western Town" setting that looks really cute, even if it will probably be a bit flatter and a few less trees and small hills for the riding.
If any of the Peas have experience with either place, or just a general opinion between Mt. Pleasant or Grandview area generally for a visit in late May, I'd love to have your insight before I make a choice (and reservations!)
Thanks in advance,
Valeria

I love east Texas....it is so pretty there! I would go for that one but prepare for mosquitos and ticks. Make sure that you do tick checks on the regular.

I would prefer Mt. Pleasant but know that mosquitoes are going to be a problem in both places, most likely.

Either place is going to be hotter than Hades the last weekend of May. You'll have bugs at both locations so be sure to get you Skin So Soft ready! Being from NE Texas I would choose Mt. Pleasant. The scenery is going to be prettier in Mt. Pleasant with the pine tress, hills, and greenery. than Grandview and Lake Cypress Springs is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Lake Cypress will be more open range, less crowding, and not as much car traffic. I spent many, many, many summers on Lake Cypress and the only lake in Texas that is prettier is Canyon Lake near New Braunfels. Also, if you plan your visit for the weekend of May 31st to June 2nd you can hit First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX on the way back to the DFW area. That is about an hour drive from the ranch and will put you right at IH20 for the ride home.

Is Graham, TX within distance for you? My childhood friend’s family owns (they might have sold it in recent years) the Wildcatter Ranch, and we used to do 4th of Julys out there in high school. It’s been a long while since I’ve been close with her/her fam, but I would recommend the ranch based on my experiences there. It’s absolutely beautiful and a little nicer vs rustic. They have horseback riding and activities. www.wildcatterranch.com/

Thank you all for your insights and recommendations!
I'm leaning towards Deer Lake Cabins based on what you've shared. Pancakes, Graham is unfortunately a bit far west to fit in with the other plans for the week, but thank you for your recommendation too! (Also, the ranch does look gorgeous from the pictures, but that website gave me an almost instantaneous headache trying to read any of the print, LOL!)
