I have tipped before, but I don’t think we paid to have it delivered. It was a very hot day and they move large heavy stuff all day, so I was grateful for the good job they did. It wasn’t much. Maybe $10 per person, if there were 2. I didn’t feel obligated and don’t tip for everything

I am generally a reluctant tipper, but, I do usually tip my appliance and furniture delivery guys. I have a soft spot for those who do tough manual labor. I usually do $10 per guy. They always seem grateful and like they don’t expect it, so, I don’t think it is the norm to tip them. Erin

I ended up going the other way for my delivery guys - I tipped $20 AND gave them several boxes of Girl Scout cookies. One guy did the vast majority of the work - he moved all of the pieces in and out alone, handled all communication with me, and moved furniture that was in the way. The other guy just hooked up the dryer under his instruction, and they were probably there an hour. I gave the tip to the guy who did most of the work.
I would not have tipped if it had all happened fast or if the work didn't look as hard as it did.

I don't tip when I pay a delivery fee. I do offer a bottle of water or a soda if it's a complex job or they run into trouble (my washer/dryer is in a cramped closet with no A/C - it's a bit of a pain in the ass.

My second attempt at a frig delivery is next Monday (20th). They showed up on Saturday (11th) with my first frig purchase. Silly me never thought to measure the back door of the house. UGH!!! Would not fit no matter what we tried. The delivery guys were VERY nice and didn't make me feel stupid at all. I went back to Lowes and returned the frig. Picked out a different one and they will be bringing that one on Monday unless they can squeeze me in sooner. Been using a tiny dorm frig for 3 weeks. I need a frig!! The sales guy was very nice about it also and measured the new frig about 3 times to make sure it would fit in the door. lol
I was thinking of doing something nice for the delivery guys besides giving a glowing review, never thought of a tip though. My work has really cool sweatshirts that we like to hand out, maybe I can offer them a sweatshirt or t-shirt.

Never. The cost of delivery and set up is enough!

Hubby always tips....even if its just enough to grab lunch. The delivery fees don't always mean that any go to the driver (and yes they are employed, but still it is a courtesy in hubby's eyes)

Probably not if there was a delivery fee. I might give him a coke or a bottle of water--or a cookie if I have any around!

No. I'm so sick of the tipping trend. Educators are grossly underpaid. Most Teacher Assistants don't make much more than minimum wage and they taken on a huge part of the classroom teaching/activities. Are we tipping our educators? No. So why does society think it's appropriate to tip at all these other places?

I tipped both guys $20—it was after 5 pm, they had a long haul back to their location and they were funny and kind.
They were talking about going out to grab a burger and beer, so we gave them a start for their dinner!

Delivery fees don’t usually go to the drivers.
Gas, vehicle, maintenance, mileage is what that goes to.
Now once we had a installer come out with a new double oven, it was the wrong size. I had to call the appliance store to get in the right size.
The installer was not happy and actually DEMANDED $45 for his “wasted trip out”.
I was alone, and his demeanor frightened me, I grabbed $50 out of my wallet, he took it (and didn’t give $5 change)
As soon as he was through the door I locked it and called the appliance store and told them never ever send that jerk to my house again! I was so pissed.
I never have anyone come now unless my hubby is home or I have someone else here with me.

If we paid for delivery we would not have tipped. If it was free delivery, I would have tipped the delivery people.

I feel like the delivery drivers probably don't make more when the store charges a delivery charge. I feel like they get paid as a driver regardless of whether it's free delivery or not. I dispatch a truck as part of my job (I sell shipping containers.) and my driver doesn't get tipped very often but he's always stoked when he does. We deliver to a lot of ag people so he gets flats of strawberries/blackberries or mushrooms frequently. Then we're all happy!

I don't usually tip but I did when I got new appliances for my newly built home. Two guys had to bring in 4 appliances. One being an extra large fridge up about 6 steps. They struggled. The other appliances were washer, dryer and a freezer. I think dh gave them $20 each but like I said it was a tough job getting them in the house.
