My new washing machine is being delivered in 2 hours. I was charged $100.00 for delivery of new front loader washer, removal of old front load washer, setting up new washer, attaching washer onto existing pedestal drawer, and new hose hook-up. Would you tip the delivery men? If so, how much?

Yes I tipped. If I recall probably $10 each. We had a quick, easy, uneventful install from Home Depot.

Not if I've paid a delivery fee. I thank them and offer a bottle of water or a cup of coffee (I have to go cups on hand) and that's it.

Just had a set delivered yesterday. I paid a delivery fee but did not tip.

This is downright creepy - I've been googling this for the exact same reason - new washer and dryer should be here any minute. They will deliver, take the old appliances, and set everything up.
Google says that Lowes & Home Depot have policies against tipping but that a tip might be accepted anyway. That isn't helpful. lol

I never have even thought to before. I guess I just assumed there’s a delivery fee and them doing their job. But then again so is the pizza delivery person. Tipping in the US is very strange!

My first thought is always - are they being paid minimum wage or above or servers wage? If they’re being paid minimum wage or above I’m 99% sure I’m not tipping. I’m not tipping for appliance or furniture delivery, fast food, counter service, coffee, Starbucks, to go orders. The only place there’s an exception is very personal services like pedicures and haircuts. Then you have to think about a tip even if they aren’t making servers wages. Tipping is out of control. But we (the consumers) can take back control by saying no 🤷🏻♀️

No and I wish people would quit. I've come to hate the expectation of tips everywhere. I hate that the practice of tipping waiters is spreading outside of the US in places where it wasn't before. I'm ok with products and service costing more if that is what is needed to pay employees fairly. So I tip food service and pizza delivery because it is so expected that they are paid differently, but I'm not going to be a part of bringing that into other professions and truly if a restaurant quit with tips I would be going there more often because of it.

I agree 100% with you. Just tell me upfront what I need to pay and let’s be done with it. I get it if somebody does something above and beyond their job description but when you pay $100 for delivery + more $$ for set up, I have to assume that already covers the workers salary. On the other hand, My husband would tip.

No. I pay for delivery. I pay a lot for delivery. If they charge $100 for delivery from each person who has something on the truck then they have enough to pay their employees.

What did you end up doing? For $100 delivery fee, I would not tip for sure.
However, I paid for rug installation and it was expensive. I was not going to tip, but the guys did a really good job and it took forever, so I ended up giving them something.
Normally, though, not.

Yep. Probably $20. But I live in NYC, where moving things in and out is a giant pain.

I also tipped the dad/son team who delivered my new couch/chair from Cost plus Market (no delivery charge).

No. The only exception is if the delivery people do something extra. We got a new refrigerator and the old one removed last year. The delivery people also went to my mothers house nearby and removed another old refrigerator for me so I tipped them for that - $20 each person.

No, but I would offer them something to drink during the installation.
I think tipping has snowballed out of control.

Appliances are expensive. I would refuse to pay a deliver/set up fee on top of the purchase. If the store said no to waiving the fee, then I would take my business elsewhere.
If the fees were waived and I got a free delivery, then I would tip each delivery person $20-30 depending on the size and quantity of the items.
I don't think it's right for a store to add delivery fees to the overall bill. The store is pocketing the majority of the delivery fee money, and paying the delivery workers much less. I'd rather tip the delivery people directly.

My washing machine was delivered and set up. I didn't tip the delivery men. They worked fast and were done in about 20 minutes. I wonder if they clean houses?
