And my countless graduation threads. Its over and went well. The weather could have been better, but it held out for the most part. When ds graduates in 3 years perhaps I won't be a neurotic mess.
One crazy thing, they graduated by height (kind of) and split the boys and girls so one 1/2 row of boys graduated and the 1/2 row of girls then back to the boys. Due to the height weirdness, 6'4 DS graduated last of the boys even though our last name is in the first 3rd of the alphabet.

I'm glad it went well! I've never seen anything other than alphabetical order for graduation. Have they done it by height before?

Congrats on your son graduating & to you for getting through it!
I have never heard of graduating by height! That would irritate me!

Our class graduated by rank for the top quarter of the class. Then alphabetical after that.
I heard that practice stopped a couple of years later...something about my special snowflake......

My niece's was by advisor, but then not alpha either as I recall. One reason is that the HS is huge, so people would start leaving before the tail end of the alphabet was done. They are trying to limit that so they mix up the order.
Congrats to your son. Glad it went well.

Yay I’m glad it went well! That height thing is weird. What was the impetus for that decision?

Glad it went well. less than 100 kids graduated and because it is a small school most people know and care about multiple kids. Start to finish with some scholarship awards and a guest speaker (5 min) it took just over an hour.

My good friend's son graduated tonight and she has asked me a million questions. She just wants to be prepared. I was more go with the flow (which was very easy since my husband taught there and took care of everything school wise).
Congrats on one down and one to go!

At my school they graduate by height. The kids sit in 2 rows on the stage. Shorter in from, taller in back. I think it should be alphabetical.

I'm trying to imagine the conversation around that table.
"How should we organize the graduates?" "Uh, by alphabet?" "I am so over the alphabet all ready." "How about by grade point?" "Well, that hardly seems fair to those at the end of the line." "How about if we go by hair color? That could be pretty." "Nah, you know that Jill girl has a different color hair every week." "You know, I've always wanted to organize students by size."
Marijuana is legal in Colorado. It could happen.

Awe I'm so glad it went well, I bet you feel a mixture of pride, sadness, exhaustion and an over all sense of being glad it's all done!
It sounded like you went to a lot of work for it all. Grad here is weird they do it all in one day. Dinner dance grad party and ceremony so no time to have guests over as parents are expected to chaperone at safe grad. Also we are super limited on how many we can invite.
My last one to graduate was a total weiner about it all so I'm happy you had a grad with no major blips well other then the whole let's put up the gate fiasco LOL!

We had over 500 students and our stage wasn’t that big. I was just trying to imagine in a class that size or larger, what possible difference could size make? And having to listen closely to every single name to know when your child graduated? And from way up in the arena knowing which kid in the long gown and silly hat to photograph as they rose and walked up to the stage. I have so.many.questions.

Yay for going well!
But, gah, I have to hate the insidious physical gender garbage. I would bet anything there were kids in that class who hated being cast in order of what their genitals looked like. Gross.

Yay! Glad it went well. If they graduated by height my six foot daughter would likely be at the end of the girls' line too.
Finish up school, relax, and then we can start stressing about getting them off to college!

Man if only they’d done by height when I graduated, I’d be close to the start and could’ve left early instead of waiting for the rest of my class of 500 😆. What a bizarre way to call names.
I’m glad you survived....did your husband? Or do we need to bring shovels and bail money... cuz we will 😉
Congrats to your ds!!

Well, ours is pick a friend to walk and sit with. It's so random it drives me insane. You better pay attention who they are near walking in or you will miss photo ops.

I'm glad the graduation went well.
I am surprised that in this day and age that they would use any physical attribute to determine graduation order. There are people who are sensitive about their height or lack thereof.

Congratulations on the successful graduation!!
I think height is great, that way the not so tall people can see and not get stuck sitting behind someone tall! My oldest dd is 6’ and my ds is 6’4” so we’d be near the back, but it would still be great for the others!

I'm glad you survived it all!
At our high school, they do it alphabetically. There are large groups of students who have the same last names. It's almost comical when they read in that 'graduation' tone of voice and you've heard the same last name about 10 or more times.

We go in alphabetical order, but the top 10 GPA kiddos get the front row. It's a nice mix. Hair color varies in that row.

I graduated by height. They wanted our robes also to hit at the same spot so we looked nice standing for a photo. I'm pretty sure they were pissed at the one chick that wore a really long dress that came out from under her robe. lol.
I was in a small class though so it really wasn't a big deal.

Our school has over 1200 students in the graduating class. They may have the highest ranking seniors at the front but after that everyone sits where they want and hands the announcer their name on a card as they walk the stage.
Congratulations on your graduate!!
