Why or why not?
Just a random question.

In order of importance on why I didn't continue the service after the free month.
1. It couldn't find my house. (I live out of town, but Google and Yahoo can get me there) 2. The cost. 3. I have a cell phone. 4. I have an AAA membership.

My parents have it. Dad loves it, but I’ve never heard him give one example that my phone can’t do. I think he uses it as an excuse to have WiFi on the road.

I had a free trial when I got my car but didn’t use it.
My phone can do pretty much everything I need

Yes, I do. I kept it because I am almost always in the car alone with small children and if something happened DH may or may not be able to come help quickly. We also have a lake house an hour away in a rural area and I often drive that alone... if something happened I would have no idea where to get assistance in the middle of nowhere. And the bonus feature I didn’t know about was getting them to run codes when I have a random check engine light. That feature alone has been worth its weight on gold to know it is a nuisance light that can wait a few days vs something major that may leave me stranded.

Not Onstar, but Subaru Starlink. I dont really have it for the emergency services, but if there is an emergency, I will be glad to have it. I have it so I can remote start my car and lock/unlock the doors from my phone.

We let the trial run its course and don't renew in our cars. We renewed once way back in the day. We broke down and pushed the button.
They weren't able to diagnose why the vehicle shut down...and they wanted to tow it to the nearest dealership down the street. It was a Sunday around dinnertime so the dealership was closed and we had 4 kids in the vehicle with us. We hung up and got a tow truck to bring it back home and called dh's brother to come get us.
If we traveled a lot of rural roads, i'd maybe consider it for the emergency aspect, but otherwise I don't think it's worth it.

I have it and I love it. I travel frequently and use the navigation all the time. I have not had to use the roadside assistance but knowing it's there is worth the cost to me. In a couple of years I won't be traveling nearly as much and will probably cancel it.

I have the Hyundai equivalent called Bluelink. It came with the car, but I use it all the time. It's got my Nav which is voice-controlled from a push of a button. I can control my car remotely (locate, start, lock, a/c, lights, etc). My poor teenager can't get away with anything with this car because I can set up a geofence, I can set up speed limitations, curfews, and I can lock down the car altogether. The roadside assistance is just one small piece.

My mother had it in her GMC. A year or so ago she got a Honda CRV, which doesn't have OnStar. She doesn't understand why Hondas don't and can't get OnStar. She just assumed that it would have it. I try to explain to her that she can do just about any of those functions with her phone and/or the navigation on her CRV.
I think the only thing I've heard her say that Honda can't do is that once she told OnStar that she wanted directions to Kohls and they sent a coupon to her phone.

We don't have it because there isn't anything our iPhones can't do instead.

It's very expensive we've never renewed after the trail period. When I got my Lincoln the sales guy was getting me to set up some things and I said don't waste our time because I won't pay for whatever your OnStar is after the free trail runs out. He replies it's always free, you never pay for it for the life of your vehicle 😮 Oh ok, let's set it up then.

I have it and I love it and hope I never have to do without it. I was in a car wreck with my last car and my leg was broken and stuck between the floor board and the dash. Everything went flying inside the car when it happened and I couldnt get to my phone. I had to wait for someone else to stop and call for help. With the OnStar it will connect with them when the air bags go off and I can get help immediately. I wish my kids cars had that option, I would even pay for them to have it each month. OnStar costs $25 a month and I don't really think that is too expensive.

I do. I appreciate the onboard diagnostics it offers if I had an issue, roadside assistance, and automatic crash response. I live by myself and I travel for work. If I ran off the road and couldn't get to my phone to call for help, it would likely be days at least before anybody worried. For $20 a month, it just give me peace of mind. I waste money on far worse things.

But I think that's a free feature through the Chevrolet app if your vehicle is equipped? I really don't know for sure...

My parents had it and it was well worth it. You would not believe how many times OnStar had to unlock the car door because my Dad had locked the keys inside (or lost them in a pocket).

I have a 20 year old Honda Civic LX (which I adore ) and OnStar didn't exist back when my car was made. I love my car and don't want to trade it in for a newer one-it was made in Japan, has 110,000 miles on it, manual transmission (which I prefer) and wishbone suspension-hugs those curves like a much more expensive car. I have an amazing GPS system that I plug into my (what used to be a cigarette lighter, forgot what it's called now) and it gets me anywhere I need to go. It's very difficult to lock my keys in the car and it's something I haven't done in 20 years. Knock wood. And lastly, I don't have to pay anyone a monthly fee.

My car doors won't lock if the key fob is left in the car.

One time going without a phone at all for days after a hurricane , you’ll get it and never look back
Ours with tax is 17.11 a month . I don’t remember how many minutes he has
It isn’t for chatting but for telling families you are safe
I can blow 17 on so many other things that I don’t even notice it

We don't have it because there isn't anything our iPhones can't do instead. Will your iPhone contact emergency services if you are in a crash and unconscious? We have the equivalent on our cars (Audi/Mercedes/Lexus) and I won't be without it. When DD was in college she was rear-ended at a stop light. I happened to be talking to her (via bluetooth) when it happened. I heard the crash and immediately heard the car dial Mercedes MBrace. They called the police who arrived on the scene in less than 5 minutes. Fortunately DD was fine but the car was totaled. That one incident made the annual fee we pay worth it to us. All the extra bells and whistles are nice, but for us it is about the safety & security features. I also like that if I ever felt I was in danger I could reach up in my Lexus and hit the SOS button.

I live in a rural area and am directionally challenged. I've had it in my last 3 trucks and will always have it. I use it the most for the navigation/directions. WAY easier and safer than pulling it up on a phone. Have also used it to ask for directions to the nearest gas station when traveling, as well as a hotel or restaurant and they make the reservation for you. Really nice for when you lock your keys in the car (my truck won't lock with the keys in the ignition, but I have a habit of pulling them out just enough to make the beeping stop, and then getting out and locking the door.) Only used the emergency button one time, when I was taking my son's fiance to the hospital in the middle of the night for an asthma attack and she quit breathing.

Isn’t onstar only in gmc and Chevy products? Or can you get it any car now?
