Posting this because I have a hummingbird nest on my back patio. I installed a security camera and am capturing some fun pics and video. If you like hummingbirds, take a peek: meg_roPost your instagram handles too if you'd like to share your account. I know we just did this recently, but I've been having lots of fun watching the nest and thought others might too.

I love hummingbirds. Just saw my first one of the year today, a male rufous. I hope he sticks around. Sometimes I just see them in May then again in August as they head south. Rufous and ruby throat we get here in northern Alberta.

Love it! another hummingbird fan -- they are my "pets" and I feed them year round. Either they are busy nesting or most have disappeared from others putting out feeders because I have seen very few lately. I watched one eat a spider out of a web one day. I was shocked and immediately looked it up. They do eat small bugs.

I had no idea squirrels ate butterflies (but I have a photo of it...he's holding the butterfly with his hands like a freakin' sandwich) I too looked it up and learned that if there are no fruits or nuts around, squirrels will eat insects, which sadly include my beloved butterflies.

So cool! I wish I could see the nest here. I've seen a lot more in variety and number around here and can see many take the same flight path right back up into the trees. Unfortunately, they are very tall trees so no way can I see their nests without a powerful telescope.
Just this instant, as typing, watched another feed and fly right back out of sight.

I hate squirrels! TFS I haven't had any hummingbirds yet. My feeders are out just in case. I've only seen 1 nest at the park. I would love to have a nest to watch.

trollie I just took photos of birds (a hummingbird included) out my front window. It had been raining all night and morning and a break in the rain came. I looked out to see a mad rush for the feeder. So I quick grabbed a camera and took some shots in a 5 minute challenge. It was like the bird version of a grocery store rush. It was crazy out there all the birds and critters running for food. Gave myself 5 minutes... shot out through a wet and dirty window. I love how you can see they are all wet and disheveled... I'll see if I can link Insta... birdfeeder rushhope that works. Not the best shots but it was the humor of them all coming out of the woodwork at once that got me. The hummingbird feeder is right out my window, four feet(?) the other 30 (?) feet out.

My mom absolutely loved hummingbirds. She kept several feeders in Every backyard of every home she ever lived in. When she moved in with me, I surprised her with hanging a couple of feeders in my yard in full view from the recliner she would sit in. Now that Mom is gone, I feel a responsibility to keep feeding the little guys.
I have a reminder on my computer to clean and refill it weekly. I have dropped down to only one hummingbird feeder and completely removed the regular birdseed feeders. They were a constant mess from dropped seed shells and the shells would bounce or blow into the pool. I was also afraid the seeds on the ground might attract mice. When Mom was here, she would sweep up the seed mess twice a day because she loved watching the birds come. I just can’t be bothered right now. I will rehang them at my next house and put the proper gravel bed underneath it.
When do you think the eggs will hatch?

(my 400mm lens will be here on Tuesday. This pic is still not super sharp, but of all I took of his dinner, it was the best

PLurker...loved all your bird pics. (and squirrel LOL) Thanks They're not great shots but it sure hit my humor button as the rain stopped and rush hour madness ensued. I'm in the middle of no where and birds, turkeys, deer, and critters or various kind are not rare to my yard but not all at once! It tickled my funny bone for sure, especially seeing them so obviously wet and disheveled. Poor things missed breakfast with the constant down pour.

Wasn't there a scene in Ace Ventura when all of the animals came running out of the jungle at the same time? LOL

The first egg came on a Saturday, the 2nd came on a Monday.

I've never seen a hummingbird in real life but they charm me completely. Such quick, tiny birds.

Cute hummingbird but you didn’t warn us about the terrifying spiders! I would have to move! The one with the face was outside..... The one from my tub was smaller than a pencil eraser. Besides, spiders eat other insects. The are misunderstood and actually good to have around.

Hoping it will, but after reading online, I think they were supposed to hatch on the same day, even though they were laid 2 days apart.
