Toss salad isn't anal sex... its eating a$$... licking and sticking tongue into the booty hole And they use salad dressing to mask the poop taste...I think. At least that’s what I was told. There is a similar reference with grape jelly.

I struggle with the way people use lit & litty. Lit is supposed to mean wasted, drunk, stoned, etc, not cool, awesome, etc.
See also litty... it seems they're now using it to mean 'a really cool person,' but that's not what it's supposed to mean! It's supposed to mean a stoner!

You are killing me this morning. Yesterday my kids (20/22) were talking about something on someone's "finsta". Both laughed when I asked what it was, told me I couldn't handle it and to let it go. So, of course I looked it up. Finsta is a second (fake) IG account for close, trusted friends where people post what they are too afraid to post on the real account. Privacy is tight and you aren't supposed to leak what is on a finsta account. And I also learned "Rinsta" is your real Instagram account.

I’m guessing a lot of young people haven’t, either, which makes it easier to assign a new meaning.

I remember when "sick" first was used to mean "cool." "Look at that car - that thing is sick!"

It’s also ironic that when she says “supposed to mean” she’s talking about slang, not a dictionary definition. She’s just talking about old slang versus new slang.

I don't profess to know many of the things kids/young adults say, but my boys are often impressed with my Urban Dictionary knowledge. If I hear something that sounds scandalous, I look it up. I wanted to know what they were hearing long before they got to the age of knowing the same phrases. My husband, OTOH, makes a great get off my lawn guy. When we play CAH, he is often shocked.

I don't have one... but my dear friend who is a very sweet religious lady (dad was a pastor as a second career). Her father used to say the phrase circle jerk (in place of clusterf@ck). She learned it as a kid and just thought it meant a confusing messed up situation. When she announced at a staff meeting of 60 people that a messed up parent night at school was a circle jerk, I about peed myself. The woman has never said a swear word in her life. After the meeting with everyone dropping their jaws on the floor, I pulled her aside and asked what she thought it meant. After school I told her what it was and she was flabbergasted. She called her dad to tell him it meant something different and that he should never say it again. He kind of laughed and apologized and said he did know the meaning he just didn't think anyone would ever repeat it. That story still makes me smile. I’ve never heard this phrase, so I looked it up. The 2 Urban Dictionary definitions were nothing. What is it being referred to here? Maybe I have a more scandalous Urban Dictionary!

I honestly thought Netflix and Chill meant hanging out and relaxing while binge watching shows. My kids about died laughing when I used it in a sentence. Sometimes you don’t know you need to google or urban dictionary something. My friends daughter used this expression as a themed costume a few years back. For 3 people. - someone was “and”. I kind of giggled and said so clever. Friend was super confused and then I explained it. She said daughter has nooooo idea. Lol. Yeah right 22 year old sorority girl.

I find it hard to believe that some of you have no idea what these things mean. Do you even internet? Lol Things like circle jerk and tossed salad have been around forever. I knew those things in 6th grade. Movies were dirtier in the 80s I guess. So were my friends, apparently.
But one comment about "why are lesbians called dykes" has me stumped. Is there a "why"? I thought it was just a derogatory term. I never thought about WHY they might be called that.

I don't understand when on here in polls and stuff like that someone puts Oprah. I've never come across it IRL though, just here. I started doing that in on polls here in the days of yore, because my weird sense of humor thinks it's amusing. That's right-- I invented it.

You're a hard core investigator!! Like someone up thread said, she's just so frequently mentioned and seen. I also think I was watching a lot of David Letterman when I first started adding Oprah to polls. He used her name in his random way on his program, and it made me giggle. I think it's funny as a Poll option, that's why I include it.

okay, i have tons of gay and lesbian friends, used to go to gay clubs all the times in my 20s and 30s (less in my 40s... i have to go to bed early now). i knew all about circle jerk, tossed salad, bears, glory hole, slurp ramp, carpet muncher, etc but this: A little pause and then my dear old dad asks...” why are lesbians called dykes”?........ i had never put two and two together between the term and possible definition/reasoning behind it. i get it now!!! so i learned something new.

I still don’t know why lesbians are called dykes, but I was pretty horrified when I learned what the term fisting meant. It’s not a new term but the entire concept was new to me. As a kid I remember calling someone a scumbag and was told it meant a condom. I guess we are always learning new things throughout life... okay, i have tons of gay and lesbian friends, used to go to gay clubs all the times in my 20s and 30s (less in my 40s... i have to go to bed early now). i knew all about circle jerk, tossed salad, bears, glory hole, slurp ramp, carpet muncher, etc but this: A little pause and then my dear old dad asks...” why are lesbians called dykes”?........ i had never put two and two together between the term and possible definition/reasoning behind it. i get it now!!! so i learned something new.

Some of these are so disgusting sounding (circle jerk, tossed salad) that now I think there should be a Snopes for Urban Dictionary... I mean there's a word for it but do people actually do those things? EWWWW!
ETA: I will never be able to hear the theme song from Fraiser again without making a ick face. Now wonder Frasier didn't know what to do with the tossed salad and scrambled eggs!!!

ok, will someone please just go back to what must be so basic to most the peas. Netflix and Chill? and yeah, obviously I don't understand the dykes comment either. or come to think of it, Blue Waffle, Russian Candy Cane or Alabama Hot Pocket. Normally, I don't mind not knowing this stuff, but now... For those who won’t google: Netflix and Chill: what kids tell their parents they’re doing when they’re actually having sex Dyke: I think because a dyke stops water...stops ejaculation? Blue Waffle: a fake STD (not sure why) Russian Candy Cane: pretty dirty, don’t google Alabama Hot Pocket: extremely dirty, rivals tub girl. Do Not google!

I'm so glad I was on Tumblr for a while a few years ago (or like 10?) before the kids were teens. I learned SO MUCH - most of it pointless, but interesting.
One day when DNB was about 11, they came home and said something about "shipping".
"It doesn't mean what you think it does, Mom."
"I know what it means"
"No, not like packages and stuff"
"Yeah, I know."
"No, really it's not what you think"
"It's when you like a particular couple, or you want a particular couple to get together."
LOOOOOOOOONG PAUSE
"How did you know that?!?!??!?!?!?!"
*Knowing smile*

My junior high kids still say “ship” and the newest is “tea” or maybe just “t”. Tea means info or inside scoop/drama.

I know some of the ‘trending’ phrases, but for the most part I’m not embarrassed by their meanings, it’s that I just don’t care. I have a 13 year old so no doubt I’ll be introduced to the next batch of teenspeak in the coming years whether I’m interested or not!
