Because the Peas are faster and more knowledgeable than Google at times, I am hoping someone can help.
I am looking for a website or app that let's you design a room layout with furniture, BUT I would like to be able to see not just the footprint but also the wallprint (if that is even a word).
I am trying to plan out the furniture that is going in my new sewing and craft room. Some websites are not user friendly and hard to use. Ideally, I would love to be able to upload pictures, but at the very least have a large variety of choices of virtual furniture to put into place.
I am not actually planning on buying any furniture, just using what I have and would like to see how/what might fit in without having to actually move the furniture (and listen to DH complain, LOL).
So does anyone have an app or website they have used before with good results?
Thanks!

No help with an app, but I've done this the old school way with graph paper and scaled cut-outs to represent all the furniture. It has worked really well for DH and I to sit down and move furniture on paper before doing it in real life.

There has to be an app. There are tons of apps and websites but so many still want all kinds of information and want you to create an account etc. And I immediately uninstall any app that needs access to my contacts, etc to work. I am hoping there is someone in Pealand who has used one that was free and easy and has a recommendation.

I have done this already, but I have furniture of different heights and would like to see how the wall would look. Should a put a hutch next to a tall cabinet or one on each wall as an "anchor"? That kind of thing.

That kind of thing. Do the same thing as the floor plan, only with elevation scale cutouts and a wall plan. You can do it flat or make quick little boxes for the furniture and a dimensional 3D plan.

When I was a kid, my mom had a graph paper pad with all the rooms drawn on it and an envelope full of little "furniture pieces" that we'd pull out and play with before rearranging the furniture.

I’m an Interior Designer - I know of no app that will do what you want for free.

Very timely post. Just this morning I emptied and moved a few pieces of furniture around in my craft room and what I was hoping for didn't work. Phooey. Luckily I tried it before I made the trek to IKEA. I have one other option to try but it requires help which I don't have today. It would be neat if I could virtually move it around.

I was trying to use one called Rooms for our lake cabin plans but found it not all that user friendly. I think there’s a free version and a paid version. It just shows the top view though, not the elevation view, it it does have a lot of common furniture pieces and fixtures that are scalable.

I did something really low tech.
I found furniture I wanted for our family room, but it was rather large scale. I had the furniture store print out the specs, so I knew the exact sizes of each piece. I taped together newspaper to those exact sizes. Then we moved it around the room on the floor to find out if it fit in a way we liked. It did, so we bought it.

You can do the same thing with a roll of masking tape and a tape measure. That’s what we did to layout our kitchen cabinets, the island and where our easy chairs would go. So far so good, the cabinets ended up looking right!

I’m pretty good about seeing it in my head and knowing if I will like it. Except one time 24 years ago where I was certain I wanted a couch placed diagonally in a corner. DH told me it would be horrible and I’d hate it but I didn’t listen to him. He was right...and still teases me about it when we are moving furniture. Otherwise, he’s a big super strong guy so I just have him move things around without testing/planning much beforehand

If they still have it, IKEA has a room designer app on their website. I used it to plan my room. It puts in the IKEA furniture for you, but you can always use a piece of IKEA furniture that is close to what you have. It may have a wall view, I know you can rotate the room.

That would be pretty easy to make with some graph paper and a sheet of self adhesive magnet that you can buy at the craft store. Amazon sells it too. LIKE THIS
Or just get this! Reminds me of my favorite childhood toy Colorforms! ROOM PLANNER
