I saw this article: www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-31/apple-s-future-ios-13-macos-10-15-watchos-6-tvos-13-mac-proit looks like Apple is going to kill itunes in a keynote presentation today. It looks like they will have an app for music, podcasts and TV (which I could have sworn we already had those apps), but it makes me wonder - can I get my music from CDs over to the music app? argh, i hate change! why can't they just leave it be!? I have a feeling this is to push apple music, which I do not subscribe too - I do not have unlimited data, so I burn my music and podcasts to an ancient ipod and use that at work...

I hate iTunes, so I'm not sad about it. Worst program ever.

I saw a quick blurb about that this weekend. I am not tech savvy enough to know how to get music to my phone to use when I am not using Wi-Fi without iTunes. I have amazon music and plenty to listen to at home. I didn't see what they are replacing it with and haven't read your link yet.

I read that the rumor is that iTunes is just being split up into different apps. There will be a separate app for music, one for tv, and one for podcasts. The music app will most likely continue to operate as it currently does. You just won’t see the other stuff unless you open those apps. I don’t think it will change how we basically access our music now.

I am concerned about this too...but have heard, and am hopeful it is just the separate apps for each.

Uuugghh. So will I still be able to play music and videos from my laptop? Music teacher needs to know.

You’ll still be able to do everything you can now... just better/different. iTunes is a bloated piece of crap that desperately needs to be broken apart. This is years late, frankly. Merge you 100% will still be able to play music and videos from your laptop.

Most of the articles written about this, like so many articles on other subjects, are written in such a way as to get lots of clicks by using deceptive titles. Each of the components that have been in iTunes will probably be broken up into individual apps. Apple have been working on this for a while. Basically, on Mac and iOS there will be separate apps for music, books, podcasts, photos, etc. Any music that might be on a device or saved in the cloud will not be touched. I've watched some reputable tech YouTubers talk about this and they welcome this change as they and many others don't like iTunes.

My husband spent all Saturday wrestling with iTunes and it’s music tagging. He won’t be sorry to see it go. 😂 Admittedly it has become very bloated, managing far too many things that could easily be done with separate apps, so you’d only add what ones you needed. I saw the writing on the wall when they completely took away management of apps a couple of updates ago from it.

There is an app for music, but that’s mostly for playing, managing, Apple Music. I think it makes sense to have all music functionality (buying, playing, storing, managing, backing up library) in that one app. Same with books and audio books and podcast. I’m happy about it, personally.

Ugh. I don’t care a jot about it being broken up - I only use it for music anyway - I just hope it really will retain all the current functionality and particularly all the metadata I’ve built up over years. I still want to be able to rip from CD, want to keep all the album art I’ve added, all the ratings, number of plays, skips, last played date etc that I use to build my playlists.

Being broken up into Apple Music (Apple Music subscription and other music), Apple Podcasts and Apple TV (tv, movies).
You can sync your phone via Finder.

If there is no I-tunes I will go back to buying cd's. I don't need another app to figure out. There is an app for my washing machine... you know in case I want to check on my washer when I'm not home?
Feeling old and get off my lawn today...

It looks like they are keeping it as is on Windows - for now at least I guess? - so I’m ok, phew.

That's all great and wonderful they are moving away from the iPhone as the central cog of the Apple wheel, but if they expect the Apple Watch to take a more prominent role they are going to have to do something about it's (Apple Watch) battery life.

I switched to Spotify this year since Its free and I was spending too much money downloading songs. However I can’t add new songs to my iPod as I’m not going to stream Spotify without WiFi. I know a girl who does that and complains about how high her phone bill gets.

I hate iTunes, so I'm not sad about it. Worst program ever. If the new program is better, I might even start listening to music on my iPhone again. Every year for our annual holiday, DH spends the weekend before we leave putting new music onto his phone (with plenty of blue language) so he can listen to it on holiday. I tried, but the first time I managed to wipe the whole phone, and then every time after that I get horrible messages saying 'you're about to do something you might regret, are you sure you want to continue', I always bottled out. No music. And it's iTunes's fault. Any replacement will be welcomed.
