This is so unbelievable. The things that DNA testing can do these days is amazing.
I remember this case SO well. I was a young mom with an 18 month old when this happened not far from where I live. This case had a HUGE impact on how I parented. I know I was way more vigilant/over protective than I might have been if not for this disturbing case.

a 9 year old little girl who was abducted less than a block from her home when she got off the school bus. I'm so glad they finally found this POS.

I found another source. What a horribly sad story. I hope so much there will soon be closer for this case. Her mother passed away from cancer in 2015 but her stepfather is still alive. He said he's been waiting 26 years to find out who did this to their little girl-I don't get the feeling from hearing him speak in the interview that he was the one who killed her. The suspect they have identified is another man although his (the stepfather's DNA) was on the little girl's body too.
Yes, DNA science is truly incredible. It's amazing how much it has helped in criminal cases.

I thought I was blocked too but just click "I'm not interested" when the Mortgage question comes up and then you can read it.
That poor baby - I recall hearing about that story and remember her name but I didn't know all that happened to her. Thank God they finally caught the S.O.B.

Does everyone have that *one* horrific case that changed their parenting forever? I actually have two. This one, and another. Google Shawn Hornbeck. He is an 11 year old boy in a town outside St. Louis who disappeared one day while riding his bike to a friends house. He never arrived, but his parents didn't know this until hours had gone by, when he didn't come home at the time he was expected. My oldest child was 11 at the time, so it hit extra close to home. After that, I started making my kids call me the second they arrived wherever they were going, even if it was down the street. If they didn't, I went and hauled their asses home. LOL They quickly learned. LOL

My kids are all adults now, but I have never forgotten this case, and it will come to my mind at random times. The area she was found is right next to where my kids all went to high school. Three of my kids ran cross country, and their summer runs/workouts were in the wildlife area where Angie was found, and every single time I drove them there, I thought of that little girl. It has truly haunted me for all of these years.

Wow! I was working a contract job in the area when she went missing (they put me in housing near the airport) I finished up the job and left the area in December. I thought of her often and what may have happened. I remember her picture as soon as I clicked on the link. What a horrific tragedy for this beautiful girl!

Wow, l lived in the area when this happened as well. I’m glad that they have finally solved the case. If I remember correctly 1 or 2 other young children were abducted around the same time. Like the article said, it was near hysteria in the area. I wasn’t yet a parent, but many of my co workers were & I remember them being so frightened for their own children.

This link is not available in my country (UK). :-(. In fact, every single link that I click tells me this, or that I can't view the article for legal reasons. Very curious. Poor little girl.

I get the "not available" notice from time to time on different links too. My take on it is that these sites don't adhere to the requirements of EU law and haven't installed the ability to choose who and what can track us. It 's easier to deny EU readers than to deal with the software changes needed to comply. I assume this because I only noticed the "not available" after the law change.

Nine days later, a deer hunter found her body in a remote area of St. Charles County. As if this case wasn't already horrific enough, what made it even worse was that she was found naked and tied to a tree with her mouth and eyes covered with duct tape. Her cause of death was determined to be from exposure, and she hadn't been dead for very long when she was found. (((((((( I'm glad to know the piece of sh*t has been in prison for a number of years.

What struck me was that Died of exposure just HOURS before she was found - I cannot imagine that poor child tied up for DAYS only to be found a few hours too late.
I'm disgusted that this guy was known to be a predator since the early 80s and it was 30 years before they finally put him in jail for any substantial length of time (hopefully for good).

. Does everyone have that *one* horrific case that changed their parenting forever? I wouldn't say this changed my parenting because it happened when I was a kid but I NEVER forgot; happened in Topeka, KS.. it was a huge deal. My parent's real estate agent and friend had twins my age. They let the son (Jack) ride his bike for the first time alone to a bowling alley (this is in 1979). It was across a field from their house. He never made it there. His body was found 10 days later in a creek bed. I was around 11 years old. I don't have much memory from it but it's something I have never forgotten. The case was never solved although they thought they knew who did it. There will still things going on with the came into the late 1990s. I don't think they ever convicted anyone.. but the one main suspect had been deceased for awhile. If it was not for the internet, I would have never known what happened since then. John "Jack" Hanrahan was his name. I played with with him and his sister, although I don't have memories of it.. but my mom has told me that I did. But that has always been in my head when I did have kids... I was always very weary letting them go off to the park by themselves for a long time. As a kid after that, it must have been buried way deep cause it really had no impact on me riding my bike all over town... just when I got older.

And if we went from jane’s house to susie’s to betty’s, we had to call each time we came and went.

"Previously unprocessed DNA evidence has led them to a new prime suspect, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says he's a 61-year-old disgraced Air Force veteran with a number of child pornography charges to his name. He showed up on a list of sex offenders compiled four years after Angie Housman died, but he was never interviewed. He did not appear on anyone’s radar,” Lohmar told reporters on Wednesday, adding that Cox had been one of hundreds of sex offenders whose name was included on the FBI’s list. “It’s a manpower issue. Even if they had followed up with him or anybody on that list, without scientific evidence to pin him down, without other circumstantial evidence, without other eyewitness evidence, it would be very, very difficult to form a suspect out of a simple name on a list.” That scientific evidence came many years later, thanks to advances in genetic testing. Forensic scientists detected a DNA sample on a tiny scrap of fabric taken from the pink trim of Angie’s Barbie underwear, which matched Cox’s profile in a national database. It was one of the last pieces they had left to check. Testing the tiny scrap of fabric wouldn’t have been possible years earlier, Lohmar said, because until 2017, clothing dye made it difficult to get an accurate DNA sample." www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/06/06/angie-housman-earl-w-cox-jr-st-louis-murder/So grateful for science so these individuals can no longer get away as easily as they once could. I hope they know that they will be caught in many cases. I hope that makes them less likely to harm others due to their own mental sickness.

If I'd had children, Etan Patz would have been the reason I watched them like a hawk. Probably one reason I'm a protective dog mom. Etan always pops into my mind when I hear about a child abduction.

NYC right? Yes. It wasn't a proximity thing either. I've never been anywhere near New York. I've always lived in the south or southwest. I just remember reading about him and my heart went out to him and his parents and I've always thought about him.

I know that I got up from birthing my baby to toddle down the hall to watch the weighing, etc. I didn't want someone else going home with my baby.
There were cases, but I couldn't tell you now what they were.
