Well, we didn't have our tag sale last weekend. Rain was forecast for Thursday night and I was afraid the ground would be too wet as well as water dripping from the trees. Of course, the weather forecast for this weekend is the same but we're going to go for it. I did end up going to a rummage sale on Friday. While it was still excellent, it was not as wonderful as usual. I spent a total of $36.75. I got a nice selection of things from household items, to a Coach leather purse, to a pair of new in the box golf shoes. It took a box and two shopping bags to fit all of my purchases.
I went to a multi-estate sale twice and spent all of the money I had on me each time. It was at least three estates. Everything was so fabulous and vintage for the most part. Here are just some of the things I got:
- vintage windup tin toy
- Victorian children's shoes
- book on McCoy pottery
- vintage wall pockets and planters
- vintage hankies and cocktail napkins
- vintage fountain pen
- vintage sterling salt & pepper shakers
- tons of vintage salt & pepper shakers. Some of them are so silly you can't help but smile when you look at them. I've already cleaned all of them and they are on my kitchen windowsill.
I also went to the Salvation Army on Thursday. I found six wrought iron patio chairs. They weren't even priced yet. I got them for $60 for the set. Our patio set is a hand-me-down from my in-laws and we were down to two good chairs because of splitting during the winter. Now we'll just have to power wash the table and spray the table frame (the top is glass) black to match the chairs. It's going to look great.
My question for people is, do you go out to tag/yard sales if it's raining out? If I see a bunch of ads that say rain or shine, or if some ads sound really great I will. As a general rule I don't bother.
How has everyone been doing with sales lately?

Eastcoastpea where the heck do you put everything you are buying? I get having tag sales but girl you are on a role! Talk about a shopper! Have you thought about one of those places where there are a ton of dealers in one spot? I know some things could get broken or stolen there, but no worse than at a tag sale.
As far as going to tag sales in the rain, no. The only reason I would go is I saw posted pictures and it had something I wanted.
Can't say I've bought much of anything lately. Of course after my monster sized blue M&M what more could a girl want!

Outdoor sales in the rain? Not so much. Maybe in a light drizzle.
<<< my latest fun find a made in Italy Hermetic VW Bug cookie (or whatever) jar. I've seen them before, mostly online (plus shipping costs!) and they are always bid up or too are expensive. I found this one for $9.99 so couldn't pass it up.
They also come with a cork stopper but I prefer this wire bale closure type.

I went to a neighborhood wide garage sale this weekend in one of the nicer neighborhoods in my town. It was mostly older people selling dishes, cooking stuff, and decorative items; stuff like that. but I did find some good stuff for my classroom. BTW the dishes were beautiful, I appreciate what they were selling, but I certainly don’t need any decorative items or cooking stuff (I bake and cook a lot, so I have most of what I want or can store) and I am plain Jane tableware person. People were shopping like crazy, so I assume it was good buys!
For my classroom I got some really nice hardback books for 50 cents each, my favorite was a book about the 5 Senses by Tasha Tudor. It is a sweet book with simply lovely illustrations. I love Tasha Tudor’s art.
From one sale I got a nice tube of kinetic sand with a ton of molds and rollers, a jr. knex set, a fun penguin game, a pop up igloo tent (I imagine it is for a doll or build a Bear) for our dramatic play area, and a neat construction set with lots of nuts and bolts and stuff that will get those fine motor skills going all for 8.00. The kinetic sand is stored in a rectangular sheet cake holder which is brilliant, I am going to keep my eyes peeled for matching containers at the thrift store so I can switch more of my sensory sands and doughs to this type of storage. It is great because it doesn’t need to be transferred to a tray, just take it off the shelf and put it on a table and it will stack nicely.
I also got an elevated cat dish thing for 50 cents. I have a super shy cat that I worry about eating when I am not home to supervise, so it is nice to have a small dish set in the bedroom for her.
My favorite find was a game called Snorta have been looking for for over a year. You can buy a newer version online, but I have been looking for the one with the actual 3-d barns and animals because it just so much cuter then the all card version they sell now. The plain card game itself is 18.00, the version I got is typically over 50 online, but I got a complete one for 1.00!!! I have seen it at a few thrift stores in the past but even incomplete sets were around 20, so I had kind of given up hope. I was very excited!
I also got random items from various free boxes that we can use in our creation station; ribbon, cool containers, various art supplies. I have no shame.
Regarding the question for weather, I wouldn’t seek out garage sales in the rain unless it was the one in the fancy neighborhood I go to every year. Although, that is held in late June and it isn’t likely to rain much then.

I have been clothes shopping. There are great deals to be had. I bought a bright blue sweater for $4 at kohl’s and a long Flowy skirt at Burlington and to get her I have a very pretty outfit.

kkooch , right now my house is a total mess. When school is out for the summer, and I don't have to get up at the crack of dawn, I'll work on things. The last time my favorite sister was over she said I needed to take the books off of my built in bookcases, that are on either side of our fireplace, to put my cool stuff I've been getting. I'm torn, I'd like to display more stuff but I do love my books. We're having our tag sale this weekend so I hope to sell the "extra stuff" that comes in the box lots that I don't want but I know are worth some money. I'm constantly upgrading what I have so some stuff is regularly going out. I'm expecting to donate a bunch of stuff to Salvation Army and the homeless cat project in town after the sale. Everything is in good shape, but I'm realistic and know that with the volume of stuff I'll have there will be leftovers. PLurker , I think your jar is awesome. I am a big fan of V.W. Bugs. We would have bought one if the dealership wasn't over 45 minutes away. I didn't want to have to drive that far if the car ended up needing repairs. @skellinton, congrats on finding your Snorta game. It's nice to find something on your want list at such a great price. And, I think you're smart to search the free bins for stuff you can use with your students. @megmc , nice job finding a pretty outfit at a great price.

I almost never stop at garage sales but there was one just opening their doors as DD and I were driving past yesterday afternoon so we stopped on a whim. Got an almost new Shark cordless Dustbuster type vacuum with attachments for $5, a tiny little never used dip crock pot for 50¢, a galaxy print fleece lined jacket for DD for a dollar and a bucket hat that says Alaska on it for 25¢ (we’re going there on vacation soon). SCORE!

Today was day one of our tag sale. OMG, my back and feet are killing me. We did very well. I hope we do as well tomorrow and Sunday. We have tons of stuff and when something sells we put more out. I honestly must have 50 more boxes of stuff to put out. They aren't huge boxes like my sister uses. We actually had people come back a second time today and I know they'll be back again tomorrow or Sunday. It's nice to see things going and some people so very happy with their purchases. Super nice seeing some of our regular customers who I now consider good friends and meeting some great new people as well. There were 3 bad apples who tried to spoil our day but we didn't let them. I hope to find some time tomorrow to tell you about some of the stuff that happened.
If you're heading out treasure hunting this weekend, good luck!

eastcoastpea - Good luck with the rest of your tag sale! It sounds as though you are off to a great start. I've been cutting back on thrift store visits. I stopped in my favorite one last week and walked out with nothing. It's been 3 weeks since their quarterly 50% off sale, so the shelves were still a bit bare. There just wasn't anything of interest. Haven't found a thing since the vintage Lone Ranger fabric in late April. Still deciding what to do with that, either make something or list it on eBay.

**GypsyGirl**, thanks for sending me some good luck. Today was an even better day than yesterday. Lots of repeat customers today. One lady has already been, and bought from us, three times. She said she'd be back tomorrow if she wasn't working. I hope she can squeeze a quick trip in before work. One gal stopped by today that I've made friends with from our tag sales. She spent $91. I gave her some pretty nice freebies because of it. She showed back up later and brought treats for us. That was just so sweet. Sundays are usually not very good around here but you never know. Goodness knows I have so much that it's going to take a long time to box things up at the end. I was planning on donating a bunch of stuff to Salvation Army and the homeless cat project. But, today I found out that one of the ladies that I've become friends with via the tag sale is now in charge of the rummage sale at her church. Of course, she'd love to take some stuff off of my hands and she's willing to take it right away and store it. It's a beautiful, old church that's close to my house and I'm sure maintenance and upkeep is pretty costly. Ugh. I'd like to give to them all but am wondering how to divide it among all of them. I guess it's a good problem to have - believing in the value multiple organizations are to the community.

My local Goodwill is a gold mine. As some of you know, I sell on eBay. I found a pair of Hawaiian shorts made in Hawaii. Bought for about $3 and settled on $50 with a buyer. A week ago I found about 10 pieces of Royal Copenhagen Frijsenborg china in mint condition. From beautiful trays to an unused coffee pot and tea pot. Got each piece for $2-$3. Also found a whole set of Ralph Lauren linens, fitted sheet, top sheet and 2 pillow cases for about $4. They look great on my husbands bed. Then there's the Ray Dunn pottery that I got for $2 and sold for $20. And an old cassette case that hold about 30 cassettes. Bought that at the Goodwill Bins for 50 cents and sold it for about $20. That's just the start. I love the hunt.

zztop11, sounds like you got some fabulous deals. Please tell me about your experience at the Goodwill Bins. We don't have any around here and I'd be more than willing to drive a long distance to be able to experience it for myself. Today was the last day of our tag sale. Sundays are usually a total dud. I don't know if it's because we've had so much rain around here this Spring and not enough days to hold tag sales, but, we kicked butt today too. Sold and donated a ginormous amount of stuff. It was tons of work but very satisfying. What did all of you do this weekend?

Everyone in our house is sick as a dog. I'm sure it was from sharing water bottles in the car. This morning was the second trip to the pediatrician for my oldest. They ended up with two prescriptions. Looks like the wait and see advice from their appointment on Thursday wasn't good. Nothing is worse than your child crying because they feel so sick.
While I was waiting for their prescriptions to be filled I popped over to Salvation Army to walk around to kill time. I really didn't think they would have anything great because it's Monday morning. It turned out I was wrong. I spent $30 of my just earned tag sale money on crafting stuff. I got:
- either a Big Kick or Big Shot. It's in the car and I can't remember which.
- 10 distress ink pads
- gallon bag of Stampin Up Blendabilities
- the package of four different size metal Stampin Up wheels that you use make borders 1/8" to 1/2" big. I tried looking them up to find out the proper name but I'm just not seeing them.
- Stampin Up embossing/glitter try
I left behind, because I thought the prices on the following, where too high:
- Stampin Up stamp cleaner
- 3 full containers of Stampin Up rolling stamps
- some Stampin Up and Tim Holt embossing folders
- a bunch of shims for embossing machines
I'm very happy with what I bought. I know they are all great products, and I never find crafting/stamping stuff at this store. I wish they had bundled the shims together and didn't price each one individually. It was a pretty nice get well present for me!

No auction for me tonight.
I did go to a handful of tag sales yesterday. I only bought stuff at one sale. The lady was pretty nice. For the most part she was selling off inventory, display and business supplies for a failed boutique. I don't know if the location had anything to do with it, but I believe she wasn't getting her merchandise at a low enough price and therefore had to price it too high. I did purchase a few things:
- 2 big handfuls of pretty hanging price tags. I'd like to find something crafty to do with them. If not, I'll use them for tag sale price tags.
- reversible sign. One side says open, and the other has the clock that you can change the time on to show when you'll be back open. I always wanted one of these to put on the door for when neighborhood kids just show up and expect to hangout.
- new in package, roll of sale stickers. I think I'll stick them on things that I tried selling at my tag sale that I'm going to bring to my sisters. I'll see if a price drop works. If not, it's time to donate.
All of that was $4.
Then I spied a 3-tier leatherette bracelet display. It was $5.
My husband and I spent a few hours cleaning in the garage today. We came up with 3 big boxes of stuff to donate, and filled our recycle bin and trash bin to the top.
How is your weekend going?

Local garage sale of guy who likes old stuff but is culling some. A cool old Ball jar and lid containing old/antique marbles. $10. I have a spot in mind for that on top of China cabinet by antique slates/chalkboards. Vintage enamel flower pins. I think I'm saving those for DDs advent calendar. How's that for early Christmas shopping?! Lol. They said $3 each but he gave me lot for $20. 2 small little toy guns for DS who has a few old cap guns. Both tiny and metal. First is about 3" long, cast, no moving parts. Second is about 4" long cap gun made in Spain by 'Redondo' and embossed "Pam-Pam" on the barrel. 50cents for both. (no photos cuz kid has them stashed in room already) And I was just on my way to the grocery store. Why can't I not stop? 🙃 ETA this is the first time I've used Tapatalk for photos to avoid resizing. Is that why they're so big or am I doing something wrong?

PLurker Those pins are fabulous. Great score. Thanks. Yeah, the first thing I said to the guy was that I should be selling stuff not buying more. His response was that's why he's selling some to get more. Guy after my own heart. LOL There is a duplicate roses and the lower left two (on my screen) are same except for colors. I may keep one of each of those for myself and advent calendar the rest. The nice thing about my kids is they understand I like to give gifts but if they are unwanted/not their style feel free to "return". It's our deal. In the case of store bought, returnable stuff I let them know the $$ spent is theirs if not wanted and I'll do the returning. Won't hurt my feelings as much as wasting does. In this case, I'd just get them back and I'm okay with that.

PLurker, that was a great garage sale. I have one of those canning jars in the shorter size. They are very cool. Great pin collection. I like your advent calendar idea. Excellent deal on the toy guns, too. I think your return policy is a good one. I feel the same.

I've been purging/donating a bunch but it also puts me at the thrift store "danger zone" often so getting taking home a few things after dropping off. As long as more is going out, and there is by far, I'm good.
Latest...
I don't see a maker's mark but I've never seen a rocking chair like this.
It has a slide out from under foot rest!
It Priced @ only $19.99 less 20% so $17.99.
I will probably change the cushions/coverings but it is SO COMFORTABLE.
Making room in my bedroom, I think.

PLurker, that rocker looks pretty neat. I'd like to try one out. I went to a few tag sales this morning. The first one I stopped at I got there 20 minutes early and sat in my car to wait. I wanted to be the first one in because I saw this in the Craigslist ad. www.ebay.com/itm/Blenko-Handcraft-Glass-Cobalt-Blue-Double-Spout-Water-Bottle-Pitcher-NO-RESERVE/123354939217?hash=item1cb886ff51:g:mF8AAOSwmN1biFpz Happy to say I got it for $5. At the same tag sale I also got several cute vintage items: 3 planters, ceramic cat paper holder with the spring for a belly, salt & pepper shakers, vintage Fisher Price toy camera, and a few other decorative items. Including the pitcher, my total was $22. Lots of other cute things there, for example: a Keebler Elf Tree cookie jar. I had one other tag sale that I just had to check out before work. There were buttons, buttons, and more buttons. I love a good jar of vintage buttons. I bought quite a few. I would have liked to have bought more. I also purchased a handful of vintage crocheted pot holders. They are immaculate. I don't believe they were ever used. I think I'll decorate with half of them, and use half of them. I definitely had pep in my step when I went into work. Yes, Marie Kondo, all of these things spark joy for me. Good luck to anyone heading out this weekend.

Well, I'm ready to cry. Just unpacking my purchases from the first tag sale. I should have known better than to let the Blenko pitcher out of my hands. It now has a chip. I let the lady having the sale wrap and box the stuff I bought. Ugh, in the back of my mind I thought I should carry it separately but I didn't want to offend her.
While I'd like to learn something new everyday, this is not a lesson I wanted to learn. I will try to follow my gut instincts from now on. Well, back on my list it goes for things to find.
