separately from other clothes? What about dish towels? What other separations/categories beyond lights and darks do you do? Also do you consider order? Things like muddy clothes, dog towels or anything like that last or no thought given to order? What are your laundry idiosyncrasies?

all towels separate. real dirty stuff separate. No order. I use microfiber clothes and only wash them with sheets because towel lint messes them up.

Yes they become part of a load that also has pajamas, some under shirts, and leggings that I just wear at home.
All towels be it bath, cleaning, kitchen together, all blacks/denim together, dog towels and blanket together and yard clothes (sometimes muddy) separate.

Nope. I do everything in one load, and have no issues. I don’t find the need to separate anything, clothing wise, except maybe jeans, if I have a full load. I do towels, blankets and sheets separately, but that’s it.

No, socks and underwear get washed with everything else. I think our basic hygiene practices and regular washing is plenty sufficient to keep us “clean”.
I wash bath towels and face cloths together, on hot. Kitchen stuff I try to keep together but usually the loads are too small and it’s annoying. I separate lights/ darks for clothing. Sheets usually get washed on their own because they’re big and bulky but I have no problem tossing in other items of clothing with them if necessary.

No and this might gross you out but I wash kitchen and bathroom cleaning linens together so the microfiber towel I clean the toilet with gets mingled with cloth napkins. I press the sanitize button and dry on high heat.

I'm such a lazy housewife Laundry is separated by: Lights/whites (anything that is pastel or white) Darks (anything that's not light ) Dh's work clothes and anything else that gets a gentle cycle Towels (most of our towels are dark-ish; but the random white ones go with the regular light load unless I've saved them up for awhile {rare}, and if the dark load isn't full then I'll throw a towel or two in with them just because) sheets (just cuz they're bulky, but if there's a random pillowcase then it goes in the dark load too) The dog get cheap fleece blankets from walmart, he uses them for awhile then they get pitched, there's just too much fur. If i wash his crate cover or a random blanket for whatever reason it gets washed last and not before a dark load. On the off chance I use bleach I don't wash a dark or gentle load right afterwards, I'll do towels or a light load just in case there's a smidge of bleach left.

We use primarily all white towels so any white clothing gets tossed in with those and some bleach.
Sheets are washed alone unless there are some decorative colored towels to throw in.
Everything else is basically washed by person. I like to do loads by person because it makes hanging/folding/putting away so much easier.

whites -which are basically all underwear and towels. darks Pinks/reds
DH's all separate because they are full of oil and grease.
I don't separate by item of clothing. No dog towels to wash.

No, socks and undies get mixed in with everything else depending on what color they are.
Dish towels are mostly white and go in with our whites.

Our loads consist of sheets, towels, white/lights and darks.
We have a separate washing machine for shop towels and really dirty yard work clothes. I know it seems extravagant to have two washing machines, but when MIL moved into assisted living, the people who purchased her house didn't want the washer and dryer. We had just bought her a new washer and we had the room for it.

I wash socks and underwear separate because I like to wash them in hot and I wash pretty much all our regular clothes in cold.
I use a ton of microfiber towels for cleaning and those are a separate load as well - I have a basket I toss them when and when there's enough for a full load, I wash them. Kitchen towels go in here too.
Other categorizations: clothes, dark/medium (newer dark wash jeans or other things prone to bleeding are washed separately) clothes, light/white sports uniforms/workout wear towels sheets random other things as needed
Also, I LOVE Shout Color Catchers so I don't have to be quite so vigilant about mixing colors.

All the clothes get tossed in together for the most part. I separate out anything that needs to go on a delicate cycle, but the rest gets washed together on Perm. Press cycle. DH does his own laundry and tosses it all in together. If there is something new, we toss a few Color Catchers in with the clothes. Never had a problem.
Bath towels & dish towels get washed together. Cleaning cloths and microfiber mop heads get washed together on hot right after the housekeeper leaves. Sheets separately because one set fills up the washer. Dog blankets get washed separately due to the hair factor. After that cycle I will run the tub clean cycle about once a month.

Linens and clothes is all the separating I do. I only do my laundry though, my husband does his own. If I bothered to separate everything I would be doing 6 loads and it would take two weeks to get enough of any one thing to necessitate a load. We both have certain shirts and pants that have to be hung up to dry, and he can’t keep track of my seemingly random decision on what shirts get hung up and which go in the dryer and I can’t keep track of his special pants and shirts that cannot be put in the dryer, so we each do our own laundry, What ever clothes are dirty on Wednesday gets washed, then I do linens. I am super lax about it, but so far so good.

Socks and underwear get washed with the colors they match
Towels including kitchen get their own load
I do dark gentle, dark regular, light gentle, light regular, sheets, towels, whites. Or something approximating that depending on what I need to wash on any given day.

My categories are:
-whites (socks and undies in hot water, no bleach)
-dhs work clothes (slacks and button up shirts on delicate cycle)
- adult clothes
-kids clothes
-towels (bath and kitchen together, hot water with vinegar added)
-bedding (master bed is 1 load, kids each get a load)
-dogs beds and blankets 1x a month
-couch blanket(s) 1x a month unless someone is sick them right after.
And then of course the ds has short bowel syndrome accident loads lol Thankfully those are few now but does have random blowouts once in awhile
ETA: I do wash my jeans separately too. I have 4 pairs and will do them on the weekend together when all are dirty then line dry

This thread made me realize I wash by person. We have separate towel and sheet sets and I wash those between family members. Jeans get mixed.

-Sheets get washed by themselves -bath and dish towels together -towels for the counters or floors go into the cleaning rags wash -clothes are separated into colors or whites then Regular or light wash -dog blankets and bed go together -DH does his own laundry. I do mine and the rest of the above because I don’t trust his washing machine settings. Lol

I almost never separate lights from darks. There are 6 people in this house and I don’t have time for that. 😄
Towels get their own load. Blankets and sheets get their own load. Hockey clothes (and other exercise clothing) gets their own load. 🤢

I have enough laundry that I can usually separate types of loads and not waste water/energy Sheets in hot water to kill dust mites. Towels because they are fuzzy Things that need cl bleach I soak socks because we seem to all have really stinky feet and get them really dirty. Of course darks, lights, delicates
The only order is what is most needed

Depends on life. 🤣 4 people here. I do all the washing, they do all the putting away. I fold/hang up for DH and I. I throw in laundry baskets for DD(7) and DS (3).
Time with lots of laundry.... Red/pink/purple Blue/green Tan/yellow/orange Black/gray Whites/light Jeans Towels and sheets and blankets get put in whatever load they’ll fit with to fill the washer.
No time with laundry piling up.... Load and go, repeat. Lol
