I did a search and couldn't find a recent thread about this, so I'm going to ask. Has anyone ever found an inkjet printer they are happy with that continues to work after, say, a year?
I think I have bought just about every brand now, and I always end up frustrated and disappointed. The latest, a Canon Pixma, was okay at first, as they always are, but I was never wowed. Now, it has stopped printing blue. Blue was faint, so I did a head cleaning. Then blue was completely gone, with a new, full ink cartridge. So I did a deep cleaning and watched ink being sucked down, but blue was still gone. One more regular head cleaning and still no blue.
I get that it's best to get large groups of pics printed at a store or from an internet photo place, but sometimes you just want to print one or two pictures, or a print-and-cut file, so you turn to your home printer. Right now, I'd enjoy turning around and throwing it out of a second-story window.
Looking at printers on Amazon is confusing. You find one that seems like it might work, but some love it, some hate it, some are okay with it. Not much help. It's like playing the lottery - somebody's going to be a winner, but it's probably not going to be you.
Does anyone have one they love? Over the past 20 years, I've tried HP, Epson, Kodak, Brother, and Canon, and they've all ended up breaking my heart. Sigh.

Awww, I don't have any advice for you.... just wanted to commiserate! I have had two Canons so far and loved them in the beginning and then they go quietly wonky...

HP. I’ve had my HP printer for over 10 years and it prints just as well as day one. I print photos on it as well as regular black and white or full color pages. It’s a HP Photosmart Premium.

I think printers nowadays are programmed to self-destruct after 1 year. I'm looking for a printer too. My neighbor next door and my neighbor across the street are also looking. Our current printer which is now just a desk decoration is an Epson.
I'm willing to pay good money as long as the thing works for a few years.

Thanks, y’all, for the commiseration!
An HP was the first inkjet printer I ever bought, so maybe it’s time to try one of those again. I just remember the ink cartridges being heart-stoppingly expensive, even back then. I’ve always wondered if those $60 printers you see could be any worse than the ones that are supposed to be better. At that price point, they would at least feel kind of disposable after a year.
First-world problems, I know.

I have a Canon Pixma that is still doing well after at least 6 years. However, I recently had to clean the ink heads - I found a youtube video on how to get it out of the printer (the piece that physically holds the ink cartridges) and how to clean it. I assumed it would be delicate. Nope. Soak and wash. It was *incredible* how much ink came out of it, ink that was completely dried inside it, so of course it couldn't print nicely. She's a happier printer now

I am of the opinion that all printers are the work of the devil.

Except mine is a HP All-in-One. I splurge for the HP ink because IMO it really does make a difference. I even requested and/or traded other employees for HP Printers at my jobs. DH is using a Brother right now that's pretty reliable. Although he buys aftermarket ink.

I have an HP Envy and my last one was a photosmart. It still works just wanted a newer one. As far as ink they have their instant ink program. You pay monthly based on your usage and they automatically send out ink when they see you are running low. I love it!
program details:
$2.99 a month For up to 50 pages Each additional set of 10 pages for just $1.00
MODERATE PRINTING $4.99 a month For up to 100 pages Each additional set of 15 pages for just $1.00
FREQUENT PRINTING $9.99 a month For up to 300 pages Each additional set of 20 pages for just $1.00
HEAVY PRINTING $14.99 a month For up to 500 pages Each additional set of 20 pages for just $1.00
HEAVY PRINTING $19.99 a month For up to 700 pages Each additional set of 20 pages for just $1.00
And they have rollover too!

I have been using my HP All in One for about 7 years. Only problem I have is that about a month ago I stopped being able to scan to email. Printing is just fine.

I have an old Canon (maybe 10 years old) that is still going strong. It is my workhorse and I’ll keep it until it dies or they stop making refill cartridges for it.
Before that, I had an Epson and the print heads on that would dry up so fast if I didn’t print often. Hated it. Never had an issue with the print heads on my Canon (knock on wood).

I had a Canon Pixma that was awesome and lasted me 8 years before it died. RIP Canon Pixma.
Last year I bought an HP inkjet that I hated from the get-go. No matter what I did it printed slightly askew. After 11 months it stopped printing black and the HP customer service guy determined it was bad hardware. I purchased an HP Envy last month and so far (crossing my fingers) I love it. I also signed up for the refill program and already received my first replacement cartridges.
I’m hoping this printer lasts longer than a year! I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a printer to last 5 or 6 years but clearly this thread proves printers are not made well these days.

She's a happier printer now I had to do some cleaning when my old Pixma suddenly developed a fatal error and I was shocked by how not-delicate the process was too! My old Pixma was awesome for years until one day it just stopped working. Nothing would revive it. That was better than my previous printers by other companies that never worked very well. Eventually we gave up on them and for a long time I swore I'd never buy another printer. But after we eventually got the Pixma I changed my mind. And I didn't hesitate to get another Pixma but tbh I'm not as thrilled with this one as my old one. It works pretty well but it can be finicky.

It worked! You are right - so much dried ink came out of that thing! Thank you again! My Pixma and I will be able to limp along for a while longer.
