I just found a new YouTuber thanks to searching for the daily marker 30 day challenge. He's seems to be a very talented artist. I've watched this first video on no-line coloring and it looks like he's going to have some great tips and techniques to share. Seems like he knows what he's doing with videoing too, given the polish of his first attempt. www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-tInOYjkTw

Cool! I kind of want to try coloring. Any suggestions on where to start for beginners? Like the basics of what to buy? I don't want to get into doing detailed images. Just simple stuff.

I hope his narration gets more animated in future videos. Kind of monotoned for me. Other than that I loved it.

TFS. The guy is a scientist! His work is so precise, no wonder.

In comparison to the people who ramble on endlessly I don't mind this. (Rambling can be ok, but it depends on the person). He's not as wooden as one of the voice-over crafters I watch (who obvs reads from a script and has said she's realllly uncomfortable with it, but who has also gotten a bit better over time). At this point he has to keep the videos short - I'm pretty sure YT doesn't let you post longer videos at first - so that might also be a factor.

Colored pencils and/or basic water-based markers are probably the best place to start. Once people get hooked they all seem to get Copic or other alcohol-based markers, so a lot of coloring videos are based on that, but they're expensive and probably way more than you need for simple coloring. I'm following along with the daily marker 30 day coloring challenge starting this Saturday - their website might be a good place to start. www.thedailymarker.com/And I know there are some coloring threads around here that might offer some advice. Maybe more so on the stamping/cardmaking board.

I’ll tell you what. He should get a kick back for selling me on glad press & seal. I do not use this stuff in the kitchen because I hated it but, I think he sold me on a new use for it!

I just started watching the video, but I already know I want to try his technique of stamping the image with a really light color to get a 'no-line' look when you color the image. I would stamp a lot more often if I didn't dislike seeing the 'line' so much on certain images. Where have I been that I never heard of this before?!? yeah, he needs work on the 'not so monotone' thing (take a drink or two of your wine while you're talking, to loosen up!! lol!!) but I would definitely watch more of his videos. And I haven't even gotten to the press and seal part, yet!! eta: just watched the rest of it, and I've already subscribed to follow him on youtube and on instagram!! thanks for sharing your find, joblackford!!

Yeah, I've heard about Jennifer McGuire using it (although I'm not sure I ever saw her use it) and I think I saw Cathy Zielske use it a few times and she gave someone else credit for the idea. I think they used it for complicated die cuts that they were trying to keep together. But yeah, after seeing this guy use it I was ready to go buy a roll too! (I also hated it for kitchen use. It didn't stick well and seemed to let the smells of the food out.)

Yeah, the no-line coloring is pretty cool. (That's its official name, btw.) I think it's often done with watercolors which is beautiful but also looks really hard. I don't think I've been any other videos doing it with Copics but I don't watch much in the way of coloring. This guy just caught my eye on IG with a particularly beautiful floral. I might give the no line thing a try, just out of curiosity. I only have crappy markers and colored pencils but maybe I can fake being a talented artist...

I love this. I am not sure about his wine lol (IMO, wine has no place in paper crafing, I knock glasses of anything over and alcohol would only increse my klutz factor) but I LOVE his techniques and I find his voice kinda soothing...like a meditation tape hahaha.
