I had a couple more questions after doing more research. Is the Roosevelt tram worth going on? Idk why I’d never heard of it before. Also, anyone gone to the Vessel yet? I am hoping to get tickets. One last question, can I find Groupon for bike rentals in Central Park? Really only onterested in a few hrs not all day. Thanks!
I tried doing a search and it seems like it’s not working well. Ik there have been a ton of threads on NYC. If anyone can link me up or just give me some suggestions I’d be grateful.
We are going for 4 days, mid July. This will be our second time. Looking to do some things we didn’t do the first time.
On our list so far, High Line, Central Park (went last time but didn’t spend much time there), Chinatown (there’s a noodle place we found last time that we loved), Tenement museum, WTC museum, MOMA.
We have tix to Come From Away. We are planning to go to Carmine’s for dinner before the show (we like to eat early) and then have dessert after. All other meals haven’t been planned other than noodle place in chinatown that DD and I could eat at every meal:)
We did the on/off bus last time and saw the Statue of Liberty and went to Top of the Rock for the view. Saw most everything in Time’s Square. Did Ellen’s Stardust diner (wasn’t impressed).
Looking for good, reasonably priced meals I can’t find in WA. Staying in Manhattan but willing to go outside area (prefer that anyway). Help a girl out! Thanks!

I always like to get tapas at Boqueria. Big Gay Ice Cream is fun and unique too...they have a few locations.
If you want lunch before or after the WTC or Tenement Museum the food court at Brookfield Place has some great unique options (nothing like a WA mall). There is an Eataly in the building too. All a short walk from the museum and memorial.
If you want to shop, I like Century 21. They have a very large store in that same general area.

I’m not an expert, I’ve been to NYC a few times. and am going back the first week of July. I will second Eataly, we really enjoyed eating & shopping there. In the theater district, we liked going to Juniors-might be good for the dessert you mentioned. Cucina & Co at Rockefeller Center was nice-they have both sit down & grab and go. My favorite place though was The Harold in Herald Square, it was a kind of quirky place with good food & drinks.
We loved Central Park, we spent about 3 hours there last Spring & are looking forward to going back. We went to Live with Kelly & Ryan-that was fun, maybe look into that or another show? We’ve done all the other tourist things, too, SOL, Empire State Building, Trinity Church, Brooklyn Bridge, 9/11 Museum & Ground Zero and the UN. Those are the things we enjoy doing, I know some people prefer to do more off the beaten path sorts of things. This time, dd & I are going to see Beetlejuice while ds & DH go to a Yankees/Mets game.

If you are planning on eating at Carmine’s, make reservations. They can get very crowded.

Line up early in the morning at Dominique Ansel in SOHO for a cronut. Soooooo good! We had to order our cronuts a month in advance in 2016, not sure if that has changed. We were there on a Saturday in Sept and took the train to a Brooklyn flea market and had a wonderful time. We then took the train onto Coney Island. The ride back into the city was a bit long, but it was great. We love wandering Greenwich Village and hope to catch an off Broadway show the next time we go. Have a great trip.

Go to Katz's Deli when you go to the Tenement Museum. I recommend getting there early (before 11) and getting seated in the waiter section rather than finding your own seats. Everything is delicious but the pastrami is just out of this world. Melt in your mouth. And the knishes are awesome.

Very much the opposite of MOMA, we went to the Cloisters on our last trip. When you pay, your ticket is good for 3 days there and the Met. It's pre-Renaissance art and I thought it was fascinating. They have multiple church apses which were decommissioned after the Reformation because the theology behind the art was no longer valid. There are tapestries and a room of sarcophagi. And lots of painting and sculptures, manuscripts, etc. It's a lot of stairs to get up to the museum and it was very crowded when we went on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend but it is up there with one of my favorite things we've done in NYC.
The New York Historical Society is close to the Met and there are some cool exhibits there too.
The cheesecake at Junior's is delicious.
Another pea introduced me to the food hall at Grand Central Station - it's called Urbanspace Vanderbilt. There is a famous pizzeria there called Roberta's and their signature pizza is the Bee Sting. There is another food hall at Penn Station although I haven't tried that one out yet.
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is fun - that's on our list again for our next trip and it's a quick walk from there to Chinatown if you wanted to incorporate that with your noodle restaurant.

We were there at Christmas and just went early and lined up. You can preorder as well but it’s not necessary.

Off the top of my head I can’t remember where we ate. We really enjoyed a few kosher restaurants / delis.
We bikes in Central Park and it was so much fun. We loved the tenement museum - book ahead. Empire State Building. High line was super hot for walking take a hat or go at night.
We saw come from away here last month. It is so wonderful and as a Canadian it made me feel so proud.
Have a great time

Consider the possibility that it will be ridiculously hot and you may want to find some restaurant options that offer lighter fare. We were there in mid-July several years ago and it was 100 degrees. We didn't accomplish much because the heat and humanity sapped our energy really quickly.

I’m in NY often visiting my son. You’ve been given lots of great ideas like walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, 911 Memorial, etc We also love walking around SoHo and going into the shops. We usually see a play when I’m there..last time we saw Burn/This at Hudson Theater. Something we did once that I thought sounded cheesey but was actually so much fun was a boat ride on the Hudson. They have several different types of boats..we did the sailboat and it was so much fun. It departs from Chelsea pier. Go to sail-nyc.com Otherwise we just walk, walk and walk more. We love good food and will try anything. If you want I could give you a list of some of our favorite restaurants.

I like to go to/stay in less touristy neighborhoods, pull up Yelp, and read reviews for neighborhood places nearby. We’ve had some fantastic meals in smaller places that way. “Iconic” NY restaurants tend not to live up to the hype, IME.
Since the MOMA is closed right now, consider visiting the Whitney. Older DD and I really enjoyed it.

Keep in mind Penn Station just started renovations, estimated time 1 year. Not sure if you are coming in that way, or have any plans at or near there. 🙂 Link here

If you want I could give you a list of some of our favorite restaurants. [I’d love that. Last time we were there I yelped most every place we ate at. We had some ideas for places but sometimes we were too far away and just needed to eat close by. Such as when there was an over hour wait at Serendipity. Went and ate lunch and come back for dessert. We walked the Brooklyn Bridge last time. My mom wanted to go to Carnegie Deli so we never made it to Katz’s but it’s for sure on the list this time! Cycling in Central Park sounds fun, I think I will recommend that to DD. I think we are going to take a day and go by ourselves and do what we want to do away from my mom and aunt. That’s a bummer about MOMA. I’m not a huge museum fan but DD wanted to go. We went to Jrs last time for dessert, just got it to go, sooo good.

Our faves include Mercer Kitchen (truffle pizza!!!), Balthazar (brunch) and if you want a spectacular Michelin starred dining experience, Daniel never disappoints.

I forgot about Balthazar..really fun place. Never been to Daniel but we went to another restaurant of his several years ago..Boulud Sud. I think the meal was great but all I can really remember is that we were seated next to Bill and Hillary. Politics aside it was truly a fascinating experience for us.

Slight hijack...we're going to be in NYC for one night in July. We'll have 24 hours there and are trying to figure out what things we MUST do. I've been there before (a long long time ago), but DH and DS(17) haven't. Any suggestions? I haven't made hotel reservations yet.

I've been on two good food tours in NYC Greenwich Villageand Chelsea MarketThere was more food on the Secret food tours one, you get bigger portions of larger food items but I think Chelsea market is such a fun place and there's no way you could sample so much on your own.

A couple more questions in OP I asked my son about the RI tram on a recent-ish visit. He said if I was really interested in the view, yes, otherwise no. Apparently there’s not much to do on RI once you get there.
