Curious how others handle tipping housekeeping if you're staying in a hotel? Do you tip? Do you tip daily or at the end of a stay? How much per day/stay do you think for a tip?

I leave a few dollars in cash (usually $5) each day - I assume I don’t have the same cleaning staff every day.

I tip daily in case the housekeeper changes during my stay. Usually about $3 when by myself. At least $5 when traveling with family. $10-$20 if its a major holiday.

We do $5 daily. We don’t usually stay more than a few nights.

I tip at the end of the stay - with an amount per day. If I’ve been there 2-3 days I leave like $10-20.
When we all stayed in a room in Hawaii and it was a lot of work for housekeeping we left $100 at the end of the week.

In Canada and US I never tip housekeeping. When we go down south (Mexico, Dominican or Jamaica) we usually tip $3.00(US)/day.

Generally we do not tip. We have on occasion if we felt there was going to be extra work involved in cleaning the room when traveling with kiddos, etc.

I tip $5 per day. I try to leave it every day, but I sometimes forget. But in the end, I make sure it’s $5/day.

We never tipped until our dd worked in housekeeping for a hotel one year. We were like, you're suppose to tip? we were clueless. Most housekeepers make about the same as restaurant servers, but don't get the tips like they do for their services. So now we leave a tip. About 5$ a day. Let me tell you, those housekeepers greatly appreciate it.

We don't, usually. Depends on the circumstances.

I tip $5 per day. I try to tip daily, but I don’t often have small bills. If that happens, I tip at the end of the stay.

I tip $5 daily. My daughter worked in housekeeping for a while and they rely on those tips. If I can afford to stay in a hotel, I can certainly afford to tip people who rely on it.

I'm not saying I think they are highly comped, but they aren't paid the way servers are.
We don't tip for a night or two in a hotel unless they do something extra that would warrant that. For a longer stay, we do.

If it's just one night I don't tip. If it's multiple nights, $5 per night.

We never have housekeeping come in during our stay so we don’t tip (always have do not disturb on). If we need more towels we just ask when we see housekeeping in the hall. They clean the room for the next guest at the end of our stay which is their job. We also make sure to leave it as tidy as possible.

It depends on the situation. I usually leave $2.00 per day per person if it is just a few nights. Also if it is just a few night stay I never have housekeeping come in, totally unnecessary for us.
I would adjust that up if we required a lot of service or special amenities.
We also leave the room in great condition when we checkout. All used towels in the tub or shower, all the trash gathered, etc, etc.

I leave a tip at the end, approximately $5/day. Those ladies work hard.

Not great, but no where near a waiter’s salary.

I tip $3-5 per day, all at the end of our stay. I always assumed they pooled tips.
If you tip daily, how does housekeeping know it's for them, not just spare cash left out?
I also tip $5 if they make a special trip to run something up to our room, such as an extra blanket or more towels.

In Seattle it's even higher depending upon the size of the company.

If I lived in Washington state, I’d stop tipping, period, then. Tips are only given because of an arcane “we don’t have to pay waiters” system. Pay the waiters, stop the tips.

I almost never tip. Tipping has gotten out of hand, but it's CRAZY out of hand in jamaica. We left a tip there. But you had to tip for almost everything there.

We tip around $3 a day. We leave it at the end of the stay.
I don't feel obligated to leave a tip, but I like to do so. It doesn't bother me at all that other people don't leave a tip. To each his own.

We tip daily because you may get a different cleaning person at the end of your stay.
