P.S.: The most offensive smelling pets were the turtles, despite my ex constantly cleaning out their semi aquatic tank!! Sweet baby Jesus the stench of the turtles. They started stinking a day after a tank cleaning . Ahh, you know the stench!! My son was 2 at the time & potty training and I'd often assume he peed somewhere, but it was the tank. Ugh!!!! Worst smell ever!!!

And an injured Monarch butterfly that I found on the car grill when I was a teen. Because it couldn't fly, I fed flowers and sugar water from a spoon. It hung on our indoor plants and window screens most of the summer. awwwwww- bless you for doing that! we had dogs growing up- Brittany spaniels, and IIRC, a gerbil (the dog *wanted* that gerbil, really bad). I raised caterpillars when they showed up in the garden- swallowtail caterpillars would try and eat mom's carrots; I fed them in a Mason jar on the dining room buffet till they turned and hatched. I also raised Monarch caterpillars a few times. There were a couple goldfish for a while- Bert and Ernie- but the goldfish bowl was too hard to keep clean, ick. And, I raised tadpoles into toads a couple times, feeding them boiled egg yolk, till they grew their legs. (again, all this stuff always took place on the buffet in the dining room-- my mom was so nice, to put up with all of that!) As an adult, I've only had cats and dogs. Chinchillas, gerbils, and guinea pigs look like they'd be fun, but I'm afraid the cats would try to get them, and that they'd smell.

My parents had a crapton of kids and didn’t believe in pets. After my dad passed away, my oldest sister brought home a mixed breed puppy from the humane society and left it at my mom’s house (sister didn’t live there anymore, mom was less than thrilled). That dog was smart as a whip and lived to be about 15-16. When my older siblings were younger they would capture or rescue various wildlife and call them pets, things like an abandoned baby bunny, frogs, garter snakes. We also had a couple zebra finches for a while but they were messy and the boy eventually killed the girl by humping the poor thing to death. No lie! Once my brother trained a wild squirrel to eat peanuts from his hand.
Since DH and I have had our own house, we’ve had seven dogs, some fish in an aquarium, and a bunch of chickens. Oh, and the monarchs DD and I raised a couple summers ago, but they can’t be considered pets since we were only fostering them.
DH’s parents were biology teachers so they had a whole string of oddball animals at their house when he was growing up. Besides the usual cats and dogs, he has mentioned having had snakes, gerbils, hermit crabs, fish, mice, and even a monkey once for a while. I thought that could be cool but he said the monkey really stunk so he was glad when it went to it’s forever home.

We had one cat (she lived in our garage because dad was allergic) until we found out that I was also allergic. Since then we've owned Numerous dogs (always 3-4 at a time until losing our eldest last month, now we just have 2) a rabbit 9 tarantulas hermit crabs an emperor scorpion 2 parakeets a canary a gecko and a pacman frog a garter snake
We've also raised Black Swallowtail butterflies, provided hanging baskets and other plants for robins, wrens and doves to nest in and we're currently hosting a wild bunny who lives by our central unit (he usually sees me off to work every day at 5:30am).

Cat's don't have owners, they have staff. I've always been staff. No other pets.

So everything fairly boring. Came thisclose to getting rats. Did a lot of research, visited a few rat rescues. My son and I loved them. Apparently the males are easier to train and more gentle than the females. But I could not get past their HUGE dangly bits. OMG. Huge.

Two. One dog when I was a baby to age 4. One cat from about 13-till I went off to grad school. He died while I was pregnant with my daughter. I hadn’t seen him in several years. I still miss him.
No more pets for me as I am super allergic, as is my husband. And we have 4 tiny humans, and that is enough creatures that poop to look after for 1 house! 😄
ETA: no, 3. We had fish. Never again with the fish. 🤢

As a kid we had: Dogs Kittens for a short while Rabbit Homing pigeons for a short time hamster mice snake horned toad salamander (from the circus) chameleons parakeets goldfish (church carnival) turtle
My poor son is deprived. He had a goldfish who lasted a few short days (also from a church carnival), a ladybug named Violet, and finally after the ladybug I talked my husband into a dog.

off the top of my head... Dogs, cats, horse, rabbit, bearded dragon, various fish, hermit crabs, goats (my fave ), tadpoles/frogs, ducks... I keep saying a tortoise will be my next so it survives me and I don't have to go through another heartbreak. My kids can adopt them then.

OMG, I can't believe I forgot to mention Sea Monkeys (brine shrimp) on my list. DS got a Sea Monkey kit for his 5th or 6th birthday, from a friend. If you are not prepared to lie, or explain orgies and gang rape to your child...DO NOT BUY SEA MONKEYS! I chose to lie. "That's how they give piggy back rides" . They were vile.
