I have a Spellbinders subscription. I did not want the current month's offering, so I went online to cancel my sub. Instead, there was an option to just skip a month. That made me happy, because I didn't want to cancel. I just didn't want this month's small die set.
If there are other subscriptions that do this, I would be more inclined to sign up. Is Hero Arts this way? Or any other companies you can recommend?
Thanks for any info you can give me.

My Hero kits has an option in their six month subscription to "skip a month". They have you pay for the six months in advance though, I think. When you notify them, they hold the current kit, and then you get your sixth kit at the end (in the seventh month).

Studio Calico and Ali Edwards let you do this as well. The only caveats are that it doesn't count towards your subscription term (e.g. you subscribe for 12 months, you have to actually get 12 kits before your subscription is up) and you can't skip two kits in a row. You also have to skip BEFORE reveal which is annoying, but you are allowed to cancel your skip once they reveal the kit if you change your mind. So if you are unsure after seeing the sneaks you can skip just to be safe and then cancel the skip if you end up wanting the kit. It's really easy to choose the skip option too, you don't have to start a convo or anything, you just select a button and it goes through instantly.

This is just one of the reasons I don't do kits.

I love that they added this option to Ali Edwards subscription. It's kept me from canceling altogether.

With SSS you can skip as many months as you want. But you have to do it in a certain time frame. IIRC, it's like 5 days from the release date.
I was skipping almost every month there for a while. Then one month I was camping with out cell service when a new kit was released. I didn't get the email in time and a kit arrived. Bummer for me! I canceled my sub after that and now just order when I like the kit. It's only $5 more than the sub price. Without the worry of having to cancel.

Hip Kits let you skip as well. I'm not sure it's really advertised, but I've skipped multiple times just by emailing them.

The Crafters Companion subscription boxes on HSN allow you to skip months and or cancel online. They will start to be available on 24 hour crafting day July 17...people have been waiting for months to be able to sign up. A new technique is taught each month. I have skipped about 1/3 of the boxes this year. My only complaint is that there have been too many flowers and butterflies...others have complained too.

Spellbinders only charges my card right before they ship my die of the month, and there doesn't seem to be any specific commitment time requirement.

I appreciate all the replies. It sounds like subscription requirements really vary. Like Don, I have avoided kits and subs, until I saw a Spellbinder die I just had to have. Since they had no requirements, and I could cancel anytime, I caved. It sounds like they are not necessarily typical.
I ended up buying some other dies that I've had my eye on because they were on sale, so Spellbinders actually got more money from me this month than if I'd just let the subscription ship.

At $1/sheet, I want all papers to be ones I like and will use. At least 1/3 of the kit I checked first were papers I did not think I would use. I think that is probably going to be an issue for me with most scrapbook subs. Maybe most subs aren't for me. There is a good LSS here if I want to drive over an hour to get to it and deal with horrible traffic. They charge $1/sheet, too, but at least I get to choose what papers I buy. I've only been there once in the 2+ years that I have lived here. I really miss living close to a good LSS and/or paper arts store.
