Do you have a new vegetable or side dish on your menu this year for Thanksgiving? I know we had a thread here a bit ago about what we Canadians are having for Thanksgiving this year, but thought I'd ask about vegetables and sides!
We're going to my in-laws. My oven here at home is broken, they live 3 hours away, and there's not usually any room in her kitchen for me to make anything, anyway. But I kinda really want a new delicious and satisfying vegetable/side that is all fall-y and Thanksgiving-y.

I'm always on the lookout for something new to eat along with the turkey and ham. It seems it's always the same thing every year. Maybe I will find a new dish this year.

I'm thinking of adding a nice fresh salad made with endive, dried cranberries and toasted nuts. I usually make such heavy side dishes and would like to lighten it up a bit. Traditional but lighter foods.

Making a mashed sweet potato casserole that has an amazing top layer of pecans, brown sugar, maple syrup and butter.

I was planning to take Copper Penny Carrots, served hot, to a party this weekend, but it's been canceled due to weather. Still hoping to make the carrots soon. Such a pretty dish!

Ooops! Here's the recipe:
Copper Penny Carrots
1 to 1.5 pound of carrots sliced and cooked
In casserole dish, mix one can tomato soup; ¼ cup oil; 1 c sugar; 1 T Worcestershire sauce; one-half of an onion sliced in rings; 1 whole green pepper (sliced in strips).
Add carrots, marinate overnight. Bake @ 350 for 1 hour.

Great idea! I've never heard of the copper penny carrot dish before! Love the idea of those gratins!

We have some strong Thanksgiving food traditions, and I don't think any new dishes would go over too well. The food we typically have is so good(to us)that the family would not see the need for anything new.
