I started learning to knit in January and have worked up to beginning to knit socks. I’m accumulating needles, and I want to get good ones that will work for me for years. So, here’s the question:
In general, what are your favorite needles? Do you use circulars for everything or a mixture depending on the project? Finally, if you knit socks, what do you prefer: double points, two circular needles, or magic loop?
i realize that every person knits differently, but I’m just trying to get an idea. And, while I don’t have unlimited funds, I am willing to invest in needles that will last.

My favourite needles are Chiaogoo metal. I use circulars almost exclusively, and I love the join between the needle and cable on these. I knit socks magic loop - I have tried DPNs and 2 circulars, but both of them annoyed me.

I have a mixture of types. For socks and other small in the round projects, like baby hats, I prefer using wooden dpn’s My favorites are cubics needles. I tend to death grip my needles on those types of projects for fear of dropping stitches, but those seem to work better for me. For bigger projects, I like circular metal needles. I like to knit faster and not have to support the weight of the project.

I’ve been knitting for over 50 years and most of my needles are metal ones that are that old. I have never got the hang of circular needles and tend to use metal double pointed. A friend gave me a set of bamboo needles a couple of years ago and they are really nice to use.
I’ve never fancied knitting socks although I know many do it.
Here’s to many years of knitting for you!

I have a mixture, too.
Still adding to my Chiagoo set. They are nice.
In addition, I have a few circulars that are square, wood, that I like. I can’t remember the name brand. However, I think it’s the same brand that has black needles with silver tips. The double tip are my favorite for close knitting in the round.

Another vote for ChiaGoo metal knitting needles. I don't own a set of needles. I have bought them individually as needed. I used size 5 and 6 for almost everything with a 24" length being the most common. When I first knitted in my teens and 20's, I used straight needles but started using circulars when I went back to knitting 3 years ago and I use them now for everything. Circulars are much easier on the hands.
One other type of needle I've tried and really like are Knitter's Pride Nova Cubics. They are square metal needles. They make the same size loop as round ones but are also a little easier on the hands. I just don't think the metal is quite as good quality. The points don't stay as sharp. Get a few different kinds and see what works the best for you.
I'm absolutely no help on socks because I have no desire to ever knit socks. The only time I wear regular socks is with tennis shoes or boots or in just sock feet around the house. Some of the ladies in my knitting group use the magic loop but I can't say what their preferences are. I make mostly sweaters. If I'm putting in all that work, I want everyone to be able to see the finished product!

In general, what are your favorite needles? I prefer Bamboo Needles - I like Clover brand because they are sturdy
Do you use circulars for everything or a mixture depending on the project? It depends on the project, I prefer straight needles over circular ones but some larger projects need circular needles
Finally, if you knit socks, what do you prefer: double points, two circular needles, or magic loop? I prefer double points

I like addi Sock Rockets -- circular needles. I do magic loop almost exclusively. There are some yarns that I prefer to use a wood or bamboo needle, but for most cases those turbo sock rockets are great and very durable.

I use 2 circs for socks. I've tried bamboo, which is my favourite, but they don't last. I use metal ones. For other knitting I like bamboo but again the points wear and i often buy new ones for a new project.

My favourite needles are Knit Pro Zings, I'm slowly buying them in all the sizes.
I knit a sock (badly) using the magic loop method. I need to try again and up my skills.
ETA I use circulars for everything.

I mostly use circular...I prefer wooden/bamboo to metal needles. I have a lot of the knitpicks wooden ones. They're interchangeable so you can buy different size cords.
