We are driving to Florida for vacation. The trip is about 10 hours one way, so I thought it would be fun to get an audiobook the family would enjoy.
DH is an English teacher and I’m an avid reader, my boys, not so much! I have a 10 year old and a 14 year old.
Everyone is into WWII, so I was considering something along those lines, but I’m open to suggestions. Anyone have any audiobooks they love?
We’ve read Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and I just finished Unbroken. I wish I would have not read Unbroken and we could have listened to the YA version of that. My boys would probably have liked the story.

LOTR?
ETA: listening to an audiobook can be a totally different experience than reading a book. I love listening to the HP series.

Have you read all of Riordan's books? The Lost Hero series incorporates Roman mythology as well. And there is a new series where Apollo is banished from being a god and has to prove his worth. I think there are only 2 books in that series.
All the Light We Cannot See The Book Thief Dunkirk
Series by Margaret Peterson Haddix
The Missing - famous kids who die young in history have been transported to the future, but must go back to live our their last days before being pulled forward to not screw up time (pretty historically accurate and the parts where she takes liberties, she explains at the end)
Among the Hidden dystopian series in which families can have no more than 2 children. The series follows the plight of the 3rd child. Each book is pretty slim and there are 7 or 8 of them.

I just listened to a good series of books called "The Unwanteds" by Lisa McMann. It was described as Harry Potter meets Hunger Games (though it was much more similar to HP). Very creative and engaging with lots of action with some interesting tie-ins to history and literature. *edited to correct Author's name thanks jackietex !

We took loads of road trips with ds and listened to loads of audio books. By the time ds hit 10 or so, we discovered Riders of the Purple Sage. It's a cowboy book that is beautifully read. That lead us on to more cowboy stories all of which we really enjoyed.
For a short story that every age will enjoy, see if you can find Rikki Tikki Tavi.

The Chronicles of Narnia series is awesome, both my boys listened to them thru the years. One was a reader, the other not so much. I listened to them as an adult and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Just an FYI, I searched for it and the author's name is actually Lisa McMann. Here's a link The Unwanteds

While my son and I have both read the Harry Potter series the audio books were still enthralling as the narrator is award winning and awesome! We both didn't want our car rides to end at a critical part and stayed in the car to finish a scene.
I liked the fantasy series The Furies of Calderon. The narration was very good. Ready Player One would also be a great choice as would The Hunger Games. And there is also the Lord of the Rings.
