One of my sons gave it “1,000 stars!” At the opening night showing we went to, there were a number of 20-30 somethings there without kids, in addition to families. Given that the original came out 25 years ago, it made sense - it was part of their childhoods. It stuck closely to the original, with only minor changes, so don’t expect big differences. But there was one addition - with Timon and Puumba - that had the huge audience all laughing and clapping. We loved it.

My nephew is holding a movie fundraiser showing it this Sunday- I am really looking forward to it. I have heard there have been some negative reviews. However, I expect it to be just like the first one just more "alive". Corinne

Am I the only one laughing at it being called 'Live Action'?

I haven't seen it, but wondered when I saw the trailer how it will be for younger children. The animated version was too much for my kids when they were little. I imagine making it more lifelike would only make the scenes more difficult. But perhaps not - my sensitive little one would just hear some lead in music and start saying turn it off.

Can't wait to see it! But seeing as I am not taking my 2yr old to a movie theater, we will have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

I was hoping they would put some music from the Broadway show in… But it sounds like they didn’t?

Depending on your children, yes, it may be too much. There are Lion vs. hyena fight scenes and the fight scenes with Scar. My boys never had an issue with those types of scenes, but others’ children do. I think the ending with Little Mermain would have scared the pants off of me as a young child, but my kids were fine with it and many children are. I also don’t think it is/was more disturbing than the final scenes with Jafar in the live-action Aladdin. But, people know their own children best and should take them into account. I was hoping they would put some music from the Broadway show in… But it sounds like they didn’t? I think my son said that there was at least one song from Broadway and not the original, but that may have been during the credits. There IS the new song “Spirit” sung by Beyoncé in it - we’ve been listening to it on Apple Music. We really like it.

We didn’t like or dislike it. It was “meh” at best. Our thoughts seem to be in line with the reviews.

My SIL and her exDH took my nephew yesterday for his 16th birthday. My nephew and ex-BIL absolutely LOVED it. Ex-BIL said it was just like being in Africa and looking out the window, the graphics were that good. Funny thing, yesterday my BFF messaged me asking if I wanted to go see Lion King. I thought she meant a stage show, I didn't even know there was a movie! I told her I wasn't interested, but then when I heard it was a movie, and what ex-BIL had to say, I think I'll go see it with BFF after all.

Yea, I'm hearing really mixed reviews. More not good, then good. Lots of complaints that it's too deep and slow. I think we'll still go see it though

No blood. But it’s really loud because, well, it’s supposed to be like real lions fighting. And they roar. Loud.

There are definitely some parts that made me and other adults jump, but I didn’t see or hear any kids crying. I think most of them were actually bored by a lot of it.

I saw it last night and I was not disappointed at all. I actually liked it and dare I say, I probably enjoyed it more than the animated version. I think Disney is getting better and better at the live action movies. Everything looked so real and the "talking" animals did not bother me as much as they usually do. Puumba and Timon made the movie. As elaine experienced also, the audience was laughing and clapping. Heck at the end of the movie the audience began clapping.

I can’t wait! It was the first movie I took my son to. He has promised to go with me to see it. He’s 26, . I remember hours of him asking me to play Lion King with him. “ You be Nala, mommy and I’ll be Simba”. 😊❤️ My husband laughs and says that he doubts I can make it through the movie. I tear up just thinking about those days. I laugh at myself because I seriously can’t stop tearing up! 😅

We went and saw it this afternoon and really enjoyed it!
I definitely liked it more than the animated version and I loved Timon and Pumba, Seth Rogen was awesome.
It was also the 1st movie we took our 2 oldest to when they were little.
The reviews that weren't favorable what were the complaints I'm curious?

We saw it this evening and thought it was well done. The fight scenes did seem more violent but I didn’t hear any crying in the theater. DH is more of a lion king fan and loved it.

My niece is a manager/supervisor at a theater. Had to work a double because of the Lion King attendance. Had probably double the usual bodies and would have had more if they had the room/not sold out. My picky I-can-tell-if-a-pixel-is-off DS19, is not excited to see it because in the clips he saw he finds the characters faces not showing the emotions as the original and something else. It doesn't seem to have the same 'magic' or something. He'll see it, I'm sure, but not in any real hurry. It's release did prompt him to go out and buy the original on blu-ray. We only had it on DVD. Pshaw.

The lack of emotion on the characters faces is a huge one. It was very, very flat for my family and a lot of professional reviewers too apparently. People have done side by sides of emotion filled scenes from the original and the new one and it’s striking. And I hated what they did with scar and the hyenas. Be Prepared was awful, absolutely awful, and it’s one of the best villain songs out there.

My ODS is 27 and it was his first movie and I was big pregnant with my DD when we saw it. A few emotions tied into it. I also truly ugly cried at the opening of Toy Story 3.
