We are trying to sell our house but can't decide if we should redo the kitchen cabinets to something more neutral. When we have people over, we get lots of comments about how much people love them, however we don't know how that extends out to the population at large. Thoughts? ibb.co/LpJ7CXC

The only option to see your link is to save it to my computer, which I'm not about to do. Can you add it to your post in another way?

I can see the photo, and I do like the kitchen... it's a lot of blue, but personally I would be able to work with the colored cabinets. Some people may not, though.

I would look at the blue kitchen and feel like it was too much blue for my personal style, but the layout and the light and the overall feel of the kitchen is clean and nice so it would be pros and cons for me. Strongly dislike the blue, like the rest of it, the rest of the house would determine whether it made my short list or not.
It’s also not a common finish in our market, natural wood or white is much more common so it may depend on your market also.

I love the blue cabinets. I much prefer them to natural wood.

I think painted cabinets are a personal taste thing, so if you painted them a more neutral color, you might waste your money- because if people don't like the blue paint, they might not like any other color you painted them, either. That would be my fear.

I think it's a pretty blue, but that it's kind of limiting. It wouldn't match a lot of things, and that might put people off if you're selling.

I love it.
The layout is great, so a buyer that might not like the cabinet colors shouldn't be turned off by the overall kitchen design.

That's a good point about painted cabinets in general. I hadn't thought about that.

👍 I’m seeing a lot of dark and light blue cabinetry lately and I love it.

I like the colour but not the door style 🙂 I guess it’s going to boil down to be a personal taste thing but blue may be less neutral than a lot of colours.

I love this! I will say I’m not typical though as when were house hunting I wouldn’t look at most homes with white kitchen cabinets. Shudder.

Is this your kitchen?
It’s beautiful and I would leave it.
Now for staging? Add baskets of apples, lemons, anything with bright colors. Bright brass is making a comeback, so add a brass planter.

I like the color blue but I think it is a lot of blue. However, I don't know whether I would refinish them or not. I would probably see what the initial prospective buyer feedback is before making a change.

It is very pretty! Great color of blue. It will look great with grey tones or brown tones. I'd leave it.

I would probably paint the top cabinets with a light color.. too overwhelming to me.

Although I like the color (my DH would hate it 100%), it would not match anything I own. They say that is an 'easy' fix BUT I don't know if I would want to buy a house knowing I would have to paint right off the bat. If it was neutral, then I could hang with it.

If I came to your house as a guest I would say "Oh I love your kitchen!" and really mean it. However, if I was a buyer looking at your kitchen, I would probably think "I'm going to have to paint those cabinets white or a soft gray. I don't think I would want to live day in and day out with such a bold color. It would not deter me from purchasing your house. The blue kitchen would make your house stand out. (I would call it the blue kitchen house). It's not a bad thing for a house to stand out when you are looking at ten houses in one day, which is how we approach house hunting.
Have you talked to your realtor?
ETA: I think magmc had a good idea about introducing some accent colors to the space. Also, I think I'd replace those blue chairs w/ something neutral like cream.

I love blue. But I think that’s too much. The island and lowers can stay blue, or just the island, but all blue, I wouldn’t want.

I didn't vote. I like the layout of the kitchen. I like everything except the color of the cabinets. Not a fan of blue.
Color and style preference varies with each person. The cabinet color wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. If I were looking to purchasing a home, I would proceed forth with the attitude and expectations that not every home is going to be my exact color preference and style. If I were purchasing a home, I would do so knowing that I would likely have to make some changes (wall paint, cabinet colors, flooring, light fixtures, knobs and hardware, etc...), to suit my personal taste and style. If I were looking to purchase a home, my priorities would be no stairs, home layout, yard size, , energy efficient, storage.....not paint color, not fixture colors, and not what kind of flooring, all of those things can be changed.
In your situation, I would leave it as is, the new buyer can change it if they like. If you do change it....you have no idea what the buyers preference is, so there is no guarantee that the buyer would like what you choose.

It's a bit too much blue for my taste. However, I'd leave it as is as that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me to not buy the house. Another reason not to paint is that I'd worry about screwing up the nice smooth finish in an attempt to change the color.

This is where I am at; it’s beautiful, but not for me. I’d add in the cost of having them professionally painted to the cost of the house to compare it to others, and I imagine it’s a substantial amount. I would also replace the chairs for staging. To me, they just demonstrate how difficult it would be to make my belongings coordinate/compliment the paint color.
