Has anyone tried Swerve for white and/or brown sugar replacement?
I recently purchased Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener from Costco. I like it for some uses, but not for my coffee and tea. I’m in a diabetic FB group and Swerve seems to be preferred, but I’m not sure exactly why.
Do you prefer Monkfruit or Swerve or something else?

I don't really use the brown sugar Swerve except for baking. My preferred sugar replacement is the Swerve Confectioners. I rarely use the granulated version. I've tried Pyure. It's just OK to me. I much prefer Swerve.

We use Swerve, both granulated and confectioners. Confectioners dissolves best. For brown sugar replacement, Sukrin gold is excellent. We do a lot of keto baking and these give excellent results. I don’t use them in coffee, I just eliminated sweetener and drink my coffee with cream now.

I eat mostly keto and limit sweeteners but I like Lakanto best.
Seriously, Swerve gives me the shits and makes my mouth taste cold.

Swerve makes anything I eat or drink after it taste sweet. I thought that something had been added to my water because it tasted so sweet- it was gross! I could not figure it out, I thought it might be an after affect of the Swerve so I googled it and that's a thing that happens to some people. I gave it to my mom and told her to try it.
But, I did like the flavor of it in the thing I baked. If it weren't for that I'd still use it. It bakes better than Splenda I think.

I like monk fruit best. Swerve gives me "cold mouth" which I really don't like.

It really varies according to personal preference and can take some trial and error. It's too bad there isn't a sampler kit of several popular options. This is the stevia I like to use, but I usually drink iced coffee.

You guys! I was just standing in the aisle at Publix looking at all the sweeteners. I am super addicted to Diet Coke (like 6-8 a day) and on a path to kick the habit. Iced tea is going to be my bridge. I bought the monk fruit but almost bought the Swerve. Thanks for all the recommendations!

The cold mouth thing is fascinating! I’ve never heard of such a thing.
I am splitting my bag of Monk fruit sweetener with my daughter. I guess I’ll try to find small bags and containers of different sweeteners and see what works best for me. I’ll have to pass on what I don’t like to her.
DD gave me some packages of Truvia which is a Stevia sweetener. Has anyone found any differences in the different stevia products or are they all pretty much the same?

I can't do sugar alcohols. Gives me tummy troubles. 😭 Same. I buy Swerve granulated and confectioner's sugars and keep them on hand for keto baking, but they are not that great imo. I think they are VERY sweet and give off that fake sugar taste (and I'm pretty addicted to sugar, so for me to say it's extra-sweet well....)

Have you tried the lakanto DROPS? I get them on Amazon and like them a lot better than the packets. I find the packets don't dissolve well, the drops are dispersed in coffee and tea much better.

I have used swerve but my favorite is trim healthy mama gentle sweet. You can buy it on their website (and amazon, buy it’s considerably cheaper on the website if you are also ordering other products that make up for the shipping). Or you can find a recipe on Pinterest. It is a combo of xylitol, erythritol and stevia extract.

Some stevia products are blends and some are pure stevia extract. IMO, stevia is better in some uses than others. I like pure Stevia extract in drinks and to sweeten yogurt. But not in baking. I have had that sweet aftertaste and cold feeling with certain sweeteners as well. I think it is either the erythritol or xylitol, and the amounts used in the blend.

I've heard really good things about Virgil's, but I've only found the root beer one at my store, and that's a hard pass for me.

Except the majority of erythritol is absorbed in the bloodstream and not in the colon, so it doesn't GI upset for most people if eaten in normal amounts. Xylitol, on the other hand is absolutely colon blow. I did WW after I had my son, so about 17 years ago. I thought that sugar free candy would be a great idea since it was 0 points at the time. I was ignorant to the side effects of xylitol and ate a whole bag of hard candies. OMG - i had to leave work! And how do you tell your boss that you have gas so bad that you can't stay?!!! So embarrassing.

So embarrassing. Malitol (which is what is in most sugar free candy) is known to be irritating to the digestive system but erythritol and xylitol not as much. I would think that sugar free candy that you ate years ago was not sweetened with erythritol and xylitol. Those two are considered on-plan by THM because they apparently don't cause problems with your blood sugar that other sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners can. It can be difficult to find products that don't contain the other sugar alcohols, but erythritol is becoming more mainstream. I can't handle Malitol at all. I made cookies with sugar free chocolate chips (containing malitol) last year and my whole family had horrible gas, just from the minimal amount in the cookies. I will never use them again. I don't have the same problem with erythritol, xylitol or stevia. But everyone is different.

Xylitol is death for me. I just make it a practice never to ingest anything ending in -tol.

Xylitol is toxic for dogs, just FYI. I don’t know about other pets, but just wanted to let y’all know.

I've never heard of Swerve, but I wonder if they have been advertising well for all of you guys to know about it? Meaning it's not the best out there, but the most popular trending?
I use Ideal xylitol sweetener in my baked goods. And stevia drops in tea. I haven't used white sugar in many years for calorie counts. But now I'm reading a book on preventing cancer and it says that sugar feeds cancer and you have to absolutely cut it out of your diet.

I’m not a fan of stevia at all.

There's a gum (Ice Cubes) that is sweetened with xylitol. If I ever need a laxative all I'll have to do is chew several pieces of this and mission accomplished! I love the grape flavor but can't chew it due to needing a restroom shortly after!
