i hardly ever watch TV. And today, I turned it on and this show was on. Has it been discussed here? I tried searching but didn’t see anything.
I don't know any gypsies. But, I have so so many questions!

That is one show that if I find it I’ll leave it on and just think to myself......really.....people really act like that.
I too have questions. Does anyone know any Gypsys?

I lived in Augusta GA. There is a very large Irish Traveler (aka gypsy) community across the river in North Augusta and Aiken SC. I didn’t understand what they were when we first moved there and was really confused by the large group of people who all dressed in Tommy Hilfiger. You could see the results of inbreeding in some facial features. Most of the little girls under 10 dressed very sexually with a lot of makeup.

The episode I saw today was an arranged marriage between a 16 year old girl and her 23 year old 3rd cousin. When the officiant said that they could kiss, she hugged him like you hug a relative that you haven’t seen in forever and that’s exactly who I think it was! Bizarre.

Their homes are these huge, weirdly opulent mini-mansions, but rarely have any landscaping -- as in often not even one shrub. The women dress up much of the time and typically in a more blatantly sexual way. The little girls are allowed to do the same. Lots of jewelry, tons of makeup, fake nails, big hair, and more.

My husband’s mother mother’s People were gypsies. ( Romany or Romanian ones). And yes her entire family looks like they should be riding around in those fancy wagons.

For years we would have groups of gypsies that would spend their summers here. They stayed at a campground a few miles from our house. They drove high dollar pick up trucks pulling high dollar campers. They would do shoddy jobs: roofing, siding, landscaping, asphalt, etc. I worked at an upscale consignment store and they were frequent visitors. They would bring in trash bags full of expensive clothes/shoes and purses, most with the tags still on them. It got to the point where we wouldn't take their items because we were certain they were stolen. They would still come shop or should I say shoplift. One very young mom(Pookie and her infant daughter named Daughter!) and her crew were well known around town. They traveled in groups and were always loud and obnoxious. They always had lots of bratty, dirty kids with them. 15-16 years ago Pookie's cousin, Madelyn Toogood, was caught on camera punching her toddler daughter, in the Kohl's parking lot. It was a big scandal and once she was released from probation, they all left the area and as far as I know, they haven't been back.

I used to live in Augusta, GA as well and I remember that community. I could always pick them out if they came over. I had heard that they didn’t actually live in those mansions, that they actually lived in some trailers behind and down the road from the houses. As far as the tv show, I watched it occasionally, but I really hated how they treated the kids. But those dresses they had made were really something - that’s the only thing I really watched the show for.

My neighbors of ten years were gypsies. They told very few people, but told us after a few months of getting along. They just bought a house and moved. They are nothing like the people on those shows. Conservative dress, no make up. Hard-working. Mom stayed home. Dad had 8th grade education. Not sure about mom. Kids “homeschooled” after Sandyhook because mom was scared to send them. We helped each other out with things. We miss having them as neighbors.

It seems like the TV show portrays them as tight nit clans of people. Marrying within the family and such. But none of them seem to work. So, how can they afford those lavish dresses for weddings and baptisms, etc. All of the homes pictured seem to cost less than those dresses. It’s all so bizarre to me!

But none of them seem to work. We had Irish Travellers in our neighbourhood 2 summers ago. They scammed a bunch of our neighbours. My street is all custom homes and no one had paved their laneways yet. The Travellers went door to door saying they were pavers and offered a free quote to pave our laneways. My husband said no right away because he recognized that they were gypsies because we watch the tv show. They came back 2 or 3 more times to say "are you sure?". I was very, very uncomfortable with the guy who did the selling and was so happy my husband was home during the day. 5 of our neighbours hired them to pave their laneways. One day my husband texted me photos ( was Iat work) of the Travellers working on our neighbour's laneway and there was a kid who couldn't be more than 10 years old driving a steamroller, wearing jean shorts and a tank top and bare feet!!! The laneways were all poorly paved, they were very thin. They certainly didn't grade and use proper materials. I opened up our newspaper about a week later and there was a press release from the police saying to look out for these Irish Travellers because they were scamming people in our area, paving their laneways and overcharging them and not doing a proper job, and then they would demand more money. Anyway, 4 of them were finally arrested with $70,000 cash on them: ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/irish-accented-contractors-in-alleged-paving-scam-ordered-deported

His family lives in the area and they all have a family business of sealing parking lots and striping and roofing during the summer, then plowing in the winter. Legit, long-standing businesses. He grew up here. She is from Texas originally. They attend their church twice a week. I think they figured out how to live without scrutiny by not being flashy. They just are not flashy people, nor are the family members I’d met.

I find that show absolutely fascinating! What's not to love when you have a wedding dress that lights up! I do not know any Gypsies.
