If so, how do you like it?
The current configuration in the house plans is to have it under the countertop in the peninsula. But it seems awkward to have it right there, mid thigh, requiring me to bend over.
I don't want it over the stove, because the exhaust vents for that option are weak.
I don't want it on the countertop, because I don't want it to take up space.
Give me your opinions!

We have a microwave drawer in our island. You should check out that option.

Previous apartment it was in Pantry for YEARS. Present, on counter, I do not like it there, no choice!

If I had mine in the pantry I'd forget about it for sure and my morning oatmeal would boil over!
Ours is under the counter. And I can sit and stare at it while I drink my morning coffee and read the news.

I also have a drawer microwave in my island. It’s a great option. It’s handy and yet out of the way.

My pantry is simply a closet with bifold doors that open into the kitchen. The microwave is in there. I have it on a shelf that makes it the same height as if it sat on the counter without taking up an inch of counter space. I had it this way before and after our kitchen remodel and I wouldn't have it any other place. I've never understood why people want to reach over a hot stove to take things in and out of their microwave.

I used to have mine in the pantry and I liked in there. I hate it taking up space on the counter of my teeny kitchen, and over the stove is out of the question. The only reason I moved it to the countertop is that it wasn't easily accessible to someone physically challenged living in the house in the pantry.

I have a wall oven / microwave combo. So, the microwave is a little below eye level and the oven is waist level. All build into the cabinetry.

one of my cupboards has a shelf (corian like countertops). half way up. so there is a cupboard above the shelf and a cupboard below.. the small microwave fits on the shelf. and I have a counter 30 inches across from it. so it is handy.. and I can reach it easily. I don't like over the stove ones.

Mine was in our small pantry behind bifold doors. With our recent remodel we put one over the stove. We picked one that had a more powerful fan and had it vented outside. I rarely use it for cooking a meal. I thought it would be awkward over the stove but it’s not. We are all 5’9”+ so height isn’t an issue. For us, space is an issue so we chose this option. I’m not hating it which is all that matters.

We couldn't find a good place so we got rid of it.
I'm beyond shocked that we haven't missed it at all and we reheat things a LOT.

Ours is on the counter and I hate it there. It's ugly. But we love leftovers -- it is really nice just to pop a plate in there to heat. That, and how will I melt butter without one? Lol.

I have a cart (Costco) next to the end of the counter on which it sits.

Ours used to sit on the counter and take up a ton of space. When it died, we got the over the stove version- the only thing dh has ever installed without swearing 😂😂

I have a built in alcove shelf thing in the dining room and it's in there. I just didn't like it on the kitchen counter since the space is limited. Love it in the dining room out of the way.

Mine is where you don't want it, above the stove. The vent is lacking as you say, but I wouldn't use it often anyway.
I do like that it's off the counter, out of the way and not too high. We mainly use it for heating and reheating small stuff so it's perfect there.
The only time I don't like it is when making steaks or something creating lots of smoke but that is rare.
To me, that rare inconvenience is outweighed by not having it on the counter and in the way.

I rarely use the microwave but it’s above the stove. I wouldn’t want it any other place actually. I have a toaster oven which is used much more often and it’s on the counter. Definitely wouldn’t want it in a pantry. Different strokes I guess.

I have a microwave tower at the end of my counter.
Adding: I have a pull out counter drawer in the the tower. It is the same size as the space were the microwave sits, so no counter space lost.

Mine is over the stove which doesn't answer your question but I can't remember the last time I used the vent. If ever.

We have a microwave cubby built into our cabinets (remember I said there's lots of quirky shit in this house? ). It's nice because it's off the counter yet it's not above the stove (though our old house it was and it was fine). The only down side is when the microwave dies it's hard to find one that fits the hole, I had to kinda modify it a bit to make it work.

When I had my kitchen redone, I decided to go with the microwave shelf on the island. The great thing is you can use it as a microwave shelf, or not. Bending down to use it isn't a big deal at all and I love that I don't have a big hunk of an appliance on my counters or above where the hood range is.

There is a plug in my pantry for something....toaster? I could never have it there as there would be teenager crumbs galore!
My microwave is above the 2nd oven, I like it there...eyeball height.

We designed our own kitchen cabinets and put in a cubby/shelf below a shorter ceiling height cupboard. The microwave sits in the cubby at about eye level. I'd do this again if I was designing a new kitchen.

Ours is on the counter and I hate it there. It's ugly. But we love leftovers -- it is really nice just to pop a plate in there to heat. That, and how will I melt butter without one? Lol.This and microwave popcorn once or twice a year is all ours gets used for. For years before we moved into this house we didn’t have one. Now it’s above the oven so not in the way. I’d rather have a warming drawer. In our last apartment we were gifted one of those tiny square shaped microwaves and kept it in a corner, so we made use of wasted space. Then we accidentally left fish in it for a couple of days and when we came home we literally thought the lady downstairs had died. DH finally figured it out but warned me not to look. No problem! And we just never replaced it. Sharla, if I had a big pantry and didn’t use it often that’s probably where I’d put ours. MIL has a huge laundry room/butler’s pantry across the hallway from the kitchen and her microwave sits on the counter there. She doesn’t use it often and it is out of the way but easily accessible for her.
