It’s been 5 months since I had my hysterectomy. My doctor prescribed estradiol but that made it worse. I’m on sublingual Zofran because of the nausea. The hot flashes and night sweats are kicking my butt (and it was 112 today). Has anyone tried Amberen? I did get a referral to an OB/GYN since my surgeon doesn’t do that. Women sure get hit hard in the hormone department. I also had blood work done last week.

Estradiol did help me. Perhaps they didn't give you the right dosage. I needed a lot to begin with, and over a few years they gradually tapered me off.

I have been on bioidentical hormones for PMS for years (progesterone and testosterone). Recently my doc added bi-est (estrogen) to the mix in a low dose form for my hot flashes. Really helps.

I had an IUD. Took it out; haven't had a period in 18 months. I believe the hormones in the iUD helped me get through menopause.

My menopause was medically induced and I wasn't in perimenopause at the time so no symptoms until after chemo/radiation. The first year after was rough until I started Prempro. I took hormones for 5 years and then went off. I've been off for 5 years and haven' had any symptoms since.

I agree with mom and keithurbanlovinpea- bio-identical hormone pellets are wonderful. I do get estrogen and testosterone every 4 months. Also I get a "booster" compounded with estradiol and test, along with B12 script to inject monthy.

I tried Amberen and it did help. Not with the menopause weight gain, but it did with hot flashes. I also bought a Chilipad. I swear by that thing! No more night sweats, as long as I have it. I wish they made a travel one. They are expensive but worth every penny. ETA Where did my sad face emoji go? It was supposed to be in the large gap up there.

My husband’s putting up with my crazy helped before my hysterectomy, but did nothing for the hot flashes. I was using Estroven (OTC) and some nasty estrogen internal cream, neither of which consistently helped because my doctor was reluctant to put me on an oral estrogen replacement due to my mother’s history of both breast and ovarian cancer.
After finding I didn’t have the errant BRCA gene and getting a hysterectomy, my surgeon put me on Estradiol and it has been smooth sailing! In addition to the sweats and mood swings, I had also been having hormone-linked migraines. Those, too, disappeared. (Of course, weight appeared instead, but all in all I am okay with the trade-off)

I have had the Mirena IUD in and have decided to leave it in because I think I may be premenopausal. It is supposed to really help.

I had an ovary and fallopian tube removed last year and I think that is speeding up menopause. I skipped 3 periods, then it came back with a vengeance last week. I'm so exhausted. The hot flashes, waking up in the middle of the night, heavy periods have wiped me out. I went from no signs of perimenopause to late stage menopause quickly after the surgery. It's rough. I look at older women a little differently and now consider them warriors. Op, have you tried over the counter supplements yet? Black cohash has helped with the hot flashes.

I, too, got relief with Back Cohosh. Tried Vitamin E but it made it worse.
I can’t take hormones due my mom’s & sister breast cancer. I do take an ice pack to bed each night, partly for my hip. It is gel filled & in a fleece cover. Sometimes I put it under the pillow then flip the pillow over!!
Hope things get better!

Sorry you're going through this. I had a hysterectomy in 2012. I INSTANTLY went into menopause, with hot flashes lasting 24/7. It was truly unbearable, so my GP put me on Estradilol (I'm up to 1mg now), and I use Premarin creme 3x/week. The hot flashes were about 95% diminished, and I go yearly for a mammogram. I hadn't attributed my nausea to the estrogen until reading here!! Interesting. I also have Hashimoto's so I normally blame everything on that. (Keep in mind that I never saw an Endocronoligst for the thyroid issues or an Gynecologist since the hysterectomy-------------Humana/Medicare thinks that it could all be handled under my Primary doctor's care). Interesting thread!!!
ETA: My primary does order bloodwork to check where I am in menopause, and my levels still show that I'm still in the 1/2 way mark. I've been on the estrogen since 2012. It's a little scary, but I keep checking my levels and I'll get off of it once I'm in the clear!

I had an easy (relatively) time with menopause because I stayed on birth control pills 'til I was post-menopausal. No bad hot flashes after, so yes, I am lucky.

Estring. It's a life saver for the only annoying symptom after my hysterectomy.

I feel lucky. I barely went through anything. Just a few months of being extremely hot at not. I cured that by putting a table fan on my nightstand. There are nights I can't fall asleep or I wake up at 2 a.m. and can't fall back to sleep, but that is the worst.

I had an ovary & fallopian tube removed when I was 23 and was able to get pregnant a couple of times afterwards. I went thru a normal menopause, according to my doctor, not much earlier than most women.

I had an ovary and fallopian tube removed when I was 35, and started perimenopause at 46. I'm 49 now and really starting to feel it. Very heavy periods, hot flashes, and breast tenderness mostly.
I have had breast tenderness since my late teens and took evening primrose oil to manage it. I had to cut back on the evening primrose a few years ago because of a potential interaction with prescription medications I take now. I take a smaller dose and it helps some with the breast tenderness but it no longer completely manages it. The perimenopause most likely exacerbated it too.
I can't take anything else. I have a complicated medical history and hormone replacement is out of the question. And none of my doctors are comfortable with okaying any alternative remedies. The only reason why I'm still taking any evening primrose is that I'd been on it for so long and it wasn't causing any problems. My doctor would prefer I discontinue it altogether, but without at least a moderate dose, the breast tenderness is too much to just deal with.

Not having husband around a lot. And no easy access to weapons.
Actually I have had a very easy time of it. 2 crime scene periods , A couple of hot flashes and I was done.

The insomnia definitely bites since I already struggled with it and waking up when I finally do fall asleep just several hours later. I also was on something for nightmares that slowed down my heart rate but now it causes nightmares. My psych said that’s likely from the full hysterectomy and oopherectomy.
