DH and I are both done with our current mattress, an 8-year old Bobopedic. We started looking today and think we've narrowed it down to a Prana plush latex mattress or a sleep number bed. We have no interest in Tempurpedic or similar types. DH likes the idea of possibly getting an adjustable base for a sleep number bed, and being able to adjust each sleeping surface side to our liking, but we were both comfortable on the latex mattress, too. It is harder to tell if we would like the sleep number bed, since adjusting it is such an individual thing. (But boy, my pre-menopausal self loved the topper you can get for the sleep number that keeps your side of the bed warm and/or cool! My side at a cool, consistent 65 degrees? Heaven!)
Any experience you can share with either one of those mattress those would be greatly appreciated, not only by me, but by DH, who knew to say "Ask the Peas"!

I wouldn't go with latex but I am allergic to latex so I am no help with that one... But we love our Sleep Number bed. We bought our first queen size in 2011 and we slept on it until we got our king size sleep number her this spring. We gave our queen mattress to the daughter. She loves it now.... hated it then.... but she was sleeping on an old pile of crap mattress. We finally got her to like the idea of having a newer mattress when I told her she could give her old one to a friend that had an even worse mattress. But she didn't start liking it until she had it a couple months. She has it set up so one side is hard and the other soft. Because she likes to sleep on her back on a soft mattress and she sleeps on her stomach or side she likes it harder. this way all she has to do is roll over.
I love our king size bed... now my husband only hogs my side every so often... but he usually stays on his side. and I have plenty of room... I still have to adjust it every day with my back the way it has been.

We love our sleep number. We bought a split king about a month ago. I sleep so much better and the slip doesn't bother me, but we seem to like the same sleep number. The sleep program is neat to see too. We definitely knew that we wanted an adjustable base. I have no experience with latex.

I have never hated a mattress more than our Sleep Number mattress. DH thinks it's the best invention this side of the wheel. It really depends on the person.

Love my Sleep Number! I stayed in an expensive hotel earlier in the week and my body hurt from not sleeping on my mattress!

You can count us in the Sleep Number fan camp. We've had our king Sleep Number for maybe ten years or so, my sister is on her second one (traded up to a king from a queen) which is how we found out about them. After the $2500 Simmons Beautyrest we bought crapped out in less than a year, we were done with regular mattresses. My sister and her husband loved theirs so we checked it out when they had some premium closeout models on clearance. We like ours so much we bought another one for our lake place, but that one is more of a base model so it has a different feel. I ended up buying a memory foam egg crate mattress pad to put inside the top cover for $40 and now it's very similar to our bed at home that we love. I should add that their customer service is TOP NOTCH. When I was pregnant with DD, we got a new set of bedroom furniture so we had to take our bed apart to get the new bed frame into our room. When we went to put it back together, the air pump wouldn't work. I called the 800 number on a Saturday and arranged to get a new one, but the customer service rep I talked to said it would take about a week to arrive. Being about 8 months pregnant and miserable with all kinds of back and neck problems, there was NO way I could sleep on our futon couch for potentially a week! The lady went out of her way to call all of the stores near us until she found one that had a spare pump we could borrow until our new one arrived! We were able to run out to a store less than 20 minutes away that same day to get it and I was sleeping in my bed that night. She really went over and above to help us out, and I'll be a customer for life.

We have a brand new Sleep Number bed and it has changed my life. I'm not kidding. I am actually sleeping again! We have the split California King. Top half adjusts separately and bottom is all one piece. Each side is controlled by a separate controller.
I am literally in love with that thing. I now look forward to going to bed instead of dreading it.
We got the air top, not the foam or whatever that chemically top is. Just the plain one, it's cheaper and it doesn't smell weird of feel weird.
It's a big investment though but worth every penny.
