AS long as there's no "shaming" of people. What I mean is, I know that either last year or the year before some complained to @leowife that there were people on the list who only received and didn't send one card. Apparently a couple kept track. So not sure what I will do

If you are going to send a box to me... please add something to tell where the card is from....Some sort of sticker or stamp.

Thanks for the reminder. For a second I thought the sign ups were starting already - I was going to scream TOO SOON!
I discovered the other day that I have a massive hoard of postage stamps. I would prefer to use Christmas stamps but this year I'm going to let that go and use lots of random (gorgeous) stamps. I'm pretty sure I have enough already. I made the bases of at least 80 (? I think) cards a few months ago when Joann's clearanced my fav poinsettia paper.

I think it was a couple people who kept track between themselves and a couple others. And really isn’t it about sending cards or not keeping track of what you got? That’s why am rethinking whether I want to join or not

I’ve done it in the past and may do it again this year. I have a box of 40 cards from a few years back and the rest will most likely be handmade. @leowife, will the mailing list indicate both the RefuPea name and the mailing name & info? Since I can’t send to all this year, I’d like to match a real name with a board name. If not, that’s okay. I’m just curious to know how it will be done. I don’t recall from previous years. Thanks for the early reminder. It really helps. I believe it has both, depending on what the pea enters when they sign up.

Even if I knew someone didn't send out any cards, I don't know what is happening in their world. Maybe they had great intentions, but had a family emergency or job loss that prevented them from participating. I am finally able to participate this year. I can't wait! I've made about 100 very simple cards, so far.

Maybe they had great intentions, but had a family emergency or job loss that prevented them from participating. If I remember correctly they went to the trouble of tracking cards received over a few years, and they did make allowance for family emergencies, etc (which people usually apologize for). But I guess some people had signed up over a few years and no one (in the group of trackers) had ever received a card from them. A lot of work to call out a few people for wanting to get a Christmas card that we are happy to send them without any obligation!! My feeling was that the people who care enough to keep track can stop sending cards to those few people and the rest of us will continue on sending cards to whoever we want regardless. If someone asks me for a Christmas card for ANY reason I'm happy to send one. It's Christmas after all... But I did end up feeling bad/shamed last year because people started saying that unless you had a really good reason you were expected to send to everyone. I had always heard people say that no one was expected to send to everyone so when my energy had flagged I prioritized - I sent to internationals first (figured they get the least), then local people and people I talk to regularly, then the last ones would go to people I got a card from. I thought that was fine but some people were calling that out as being not good enough. So maybe we all need a clarification of the expectations? whether it's send as many as you like or send to everyone unless you have a good excuse.

Whatever, if someone wants to keep 'track' of what I do, so be it. I usually try to hit everyone, but I usually fall short 10 or 20. I try to mix up the addresses as well so that if I miss people one year hopefully I don't miss the same ones every year. I think last year I just ran out of gas, because I found a stack of addressed envelopes that didn't get sent out. Ooops!! Anyways, I have fun doing it and can't wait for this year. I have four big boxes of cards that I got from Hallmark for .90 cents a box!! They look homemade too!! Win Win.. haha.. Maybe I will add a little to them.. maybe not.. lol

Very grateful I skipped participating last year and that hullabaloo. I enjoy the swap a lot, just not sure if I’ll participate this year or not. I’m one of those people who feels that if I send one, I must send to all. And I know It doesn’t have to be that way, it’s just how I’m wired. I wish the list could be divided into 3 smaller groups and you sign up to send to one group, two groups, or all three groups. I know it’s additional work and I’d be happy to help if ever it should be considered.

Apparently a couple kept track. So not sure what I will do The first year I did this (2 years ago) I sent to everyone. I think I got about 80-90 cards that years. Last year, I couldn't send to everyone unfortunately. I tried, but just didn't get there. There was a method to who I sent to (which made sense to me at the time). However, if I got a card from someone, I would go back and check the labels that I still had (meaning I hadn't sent to those people) and if I still had a label I would make and send a card to them as well. I didn't count how many cards I got last year, but it was a lot! I love just getting them in the mail and opening them! So much fun. I think the rules have always been very clear about send as many as you can/want, not required to send to all.

I’m another that has decided to bow out after the tracking bullshit last year. I’ve loved the swap for the last 4 or 5 years. I don’t have any friends or family that actually send Christmas cards so it was a treat. But the spreadsheet keepers just killed the cheer, that was dicky.

There are no rules or expectations. Anyone who says there are is talking out of their ass. You sign up and send what you can. Be it one card or 130 cards. I’ll even go so far as to say some of us will send even if you send no cards. The point is to spread holiday cheer (and justify more holiday paper acquiring). If you want to keep track, that’s up to you, but you don’t speak for all participants. Make your own list if it’s that important to you.
I personally send to all and send international first. Every year my goal is to get the internationals sent no later than Dec 1. After that, if I’m still making cards, I send to Alaska and the coasts and move inland. I’m in the Midwest so that works for me.

If someone asks me for a Christmas card for ANY reason I'm happy to send one. It's Christmas after all... When I read stuff like this, I remember a story my dad told me when I was a kid. He used to work as a paramedic and he told me about a call one year when he had to work on Christmas about a man who called 911 so someone would visit him on Christmas Day. It made me realize that even though it sucked that my dad had to work that day, it wasn’t the worst thing that could happen. It still brings tears to my eyes to think about it. Because of that, if someone is “scamming” to get a card or two in the mail during the holiday season, maybe there’s more to the story. Maybe they are an awful scammy human being, but maybe there is more to the story. I’d rather err on the side of sending a card to someone who needs it. If it means someone gets a card without sending one....so be it. I’m thinking more and more about joining the card swap this year.

I'm planning to join again this year, last year was my first and I loved all the happy mail. If any overseas peas want to mail their cards from here, they can ship them to me and I will send them out for them. I will be glad to help mail some of the international cards. As an international pea, thank you!

I agree with your first thoughts but no, no, no on your last! Do not let them ruin this for you or anyone else I agree with how you did yours and have done it that way too. Then of course there was the year that everyone EXCEPT my west coast pea friends got cards <sigh> I ran out of time, cards and mojo and missed everyone geographically closest to me I believe last year was the first year I sent to everyone, but I also started making my cards in January and made some every month. This year my other hobbies have gotten in my way again and I’m already way behind. No telling who will get cards this year. I’m also pretty sure I’ll be urban mushing starting in September this year instead of January like last year! That is a huge time and energy drain and really cuts into my craft time!
